~ Chapter Four ~
Rosie and Henry had spent a lot of time together in the following weeks, slowly getting to know and become more familiar with each other.
Eva rushed into Rosie's bedroom in a large amber dress, her hair falling in subtle curls on her shoulders. She hid her hands behind her back.
"Mother," Rosie smiled happily to see her. She frowned as she realised that she was hiding something from her. "What do you have?"
Her mother said nothing but carried on smiling. She walked over to her daughter who sat attentively at her table and handed her an envelope.
"What is this?" Rosie asked, tracing the fine handwriting of her name with her index finger.
"I don't know. Open it and find out" Eva encouraged her gently.
Rosie flipped over the envelope, noticing the red waxy seal. It looked important. And expensive.
Rosie took a deep breath, opened it and removed a single
hand-written letter on a small piece of card.
I invite you to my house tonight at seventeen hundred hours. A horse and carriage will arrive shortly before then to ensure you a safe journey.
I have something to give you... Formally. I can't mention anything here. I don't want to ruin the surprise.
With all my love,
Rosie reread the letter trice, her smile widening a little bit more every time she did.
"Well?" Eva leaned over her daughter's hands "what's it say? Who's it from?"
Rosie replaced the short invitation back into the envelope. "It's from Henry" Eva's eyes widened in happiness. "He wants me to meet him tonight."
