The womancurled up on the topstep of the front door,as still as a door post. In the twist of her arm a small little figure laid muffled between the woman's bossom and the small blanket. A little figure no more than three months old, with pale grey eyesand raven black like hair barely visibly between her and the tattered woman's clothes.
"Take her" I gasped and jumped back a bit, a voice so soft and weak. "Take her" she said again, the woman was dying it was obvious. Now she wanted me to take her baby, a small, gorgeous, beautiful baby girl. "Please" she begged the silent tears running down her face. "If not she will die also."
I leant down and took the little figure in the crook of my arm and looked down at her. Her eyes and mouth brightens and warms under my touch melting the ice around me and stopped my heart beat . A soft ,warming glow surrounds the chilly night with just the smile of a child. " Wha... what's her name" i asked her looking back at the woman.
" Demetri....", she paused and took a ragged breath. "Would you please tell her how much i love, how much i care and that i'll always be there for her. She stopped again for my affirmation , i nodded unable to speak. " Give her this for me" she took a brown paper bag from beneath her clothes. I didn't hesitate as i took the bag from her. "Thank you."she said, with that i knew she'd breathed her last breath and has given me a life, baby Demetri
