Chapter 1

It all started on a Tuesday. I was in gym wearing my North Side football shorts and my tennis tee with my last name on the back, Lily. Yeah, it sounds like a flower, I know. Anywho, we were lined up to be put into teams. We were playing soccer that day. The door to the gym opened and a boy I had never seen before walked in. He was looking down at his schedule. He looked up and realized the entire class was staring at him. At first he looked extremely embarrassed. He quickly acted like he didn't care and walked up to the teacher and gave him a pass.

"Go get in line." Our teacher told him. I happened to be two people away from the end, but I didn't say anything to him. For some reason, this boy gave me butterflies in my stomach. I kept stealing glances at him. He had normal length, messy, black hair, rosy cheeks, and pink lips. He was wearing a Skillet tee shirt and dark blue jeans. I couldn't tell what color his eyes were. I was put on the blue team and he was put on the gold team. There were four teams: blue, gold, green, and red.

"Blue and gold will face each other on the front field, and red and green will use the back field." Our teacher tells us. My friend, Ashlyn, was on the gold team with that boy. My other friend, Tiffany was on my team. He was the talk of our team. At least, he was among all the girls.

"Did you see him?" Tiffany asked me. I didn't hear her. I was trying to watch him discreetly. Well, it wasn't very discreet. "Oh, I see. You would rather look at him then talk to your best friend."

"What?" I wasn't paying any attention.

"Earth to Aina! You are ignoring your best friend!"

"Oh, sorry."

"You like him! You like him!"

"Yes you do."

"I don't even know him so how can I like him?"

"Oh, you and your stupid rule of not liking someone until you know them. Can't you just like the way someone looks?"

"Yes, but it doesn't lead to feelings for this person." That was a lie. The more I looked at him the more the butterflies grew.

"So you admit that he is hot!"

"He is cute. I will admit that." He is so way more than cute.

"Omigosh! He's coming this way. Don't look!" Of course I looked for like a few seconds.

"Crap! The game started and we are standing in the middle of field!"

We stopped talking and play the game. Half way through the game, I had the ball and the boy came over and tried to get it from me. "Hey." He said.

"Hi. I like your shirt. Skillet is amazing."

"Yeah. Thanks for the ball." He jogged away with the ball between his feet.

"Hey!" I said laughing.

When we went back in the locker room after the game, Ashlyn was bragging. "He talked to me the entire time!"

"So don't you have a boyfriend?" Tiffany questions her

"So?"Ashlyn replies.

"You shouldn't flirt with other guys."I insert my opinion.

"Well… I think me and Garrett are breaking up." she says very quietly.

"What happened?" I inquire.

"He's ignoring me again." She replies quietly again.

"I'm sorry." Tiffany says.

"I know." Ashlyn replies.

"Come on. Let's go back out there." I say trying to change the subject.

"I'm gonna go talk to Damon. You coming with?" Ashlyn looks to see if either of us show interest.

"Sure!" I reply.

"Well aren't you an eager beaver?" Tiffany asks.

"No…" I say sheepishly.

"Aina has a crush! Aina has a crush!" Ashlyn sings.

"NO I DON'T! SO KNOCK IT OFF!" I yell at them.

"Geez, aren't you cranky today? We were just messing around." Tiffany explains.

"Sorry." I say meaningfully.
