Well, this is short and sweet and definitely catches the attention. One is compelled to read on to at least find out who or what is having this experience, and what is the experience! Because it's in italics, one suspects it might be a dream, but I'll hold off on that until I read chapter 2.

short and simple, gets to the point which makes it gripping. thats how i try to be with my more recent work. off to read chapter 2! so far it sounds really interesting and good.

Very interesting beginning. The death of a main is compelling, because where do you go from there? How can there be a story after that? Now I must read on to answer those questions.
