A/N: I would just like to thank each and every one of you who has stuck around to read this novel from start to finish. For those of you that have, I would like to dedicate my book to you. You all keep me going, push me forward, and give me inspiration whenever I'm in need of it. So thank you, to you all. This is the final chapter of this novel, but please note that all of these characters WILL BE making an appearance in My Sexy Online Lover. So don't worry - they won't be 'missing' for too long. ;)
Six Months Later
My eyes flutter open when small droplets of cool water splash against my bare stomach. I squint against the afternoon sun and smile when I see Hunter shaking his hair off on me. He gives me a wicked smile and winks.
"You looked too hot. I had to cool you off," he says matter-of-factly.
Hunter plops his body next to me on the sandy beach, slinging his arm across my shoulders. I nestle closer to his chest, the feel of his body so familiar to me now. I tilt my head up towards his face, leaning closer until my lips finally find his.
Hunter's tongue flickers against my lips, eagerly looking for a way inside. When he wiggles his way in, his warm tongue slides over mine, devouring me as if it was our first kiss all over again. I attempt to push him away but his hold on me tightens.
I know there are other people around us and the thought has my cheeks flaming with embarrassment. Hunter's hand brushes against my bare thigh, trailing a path across my stomach and up to my neck. I groan into his mouth and that's when he decides to pull away.
The desire in his face sends my heart racing, and once again I wonder what an amazing guy like him sees in a girl like me. But I've realized at this point it's best to not question. For some reason unknown to me, Hunter wants me. He loves me.
And I am the luckiest girl in the world.
"Sorry," Hunter says with a sly smile. "Sometimes I can't stop myself with you. And of course, the fact that you're half naked on a beach doesn't really help the situation any."
I giggle at his compliment, glancing down to see a growing erection forming beneath his swim trunks. The sight of it makes my mouth water. I gulp down my desire and look at him thoughtfully.
"What do you say we head back to your apartment?" I ask slowly, my eyes never leaving his swim trunks.
Hunter laughs. "Babe, as bad as I want to strip you down and do terrible things to you, we have to stay on the beach just a bit longer."
A small pout forms on my lips. "Aww, why?"
Hunter smiles and looks back toward the ocean. "You'll find out soon enough."
As the evening sun begins to set in, my stomach rumbles with hunger. Hunter's phone goes off next to me and he opens it, announcing it's another text from Rex. I can't help but just roll my eyes and laugh.
Since Rex got out of the hospital three months ago, Hunter and he have been inseparable.
Talk about the bromance of a century.
I tease the two of them about it incessantly, but really - I couldn't be happier. Unfortunately since Rex's memory still hasn't returned, most of his friendships from before the accident have kind of fizzled out. Hunter was the only guy to stick by Rex's side. And now? The two of them are like two peas in pod.
"He wants to know if we want to go out for drinks later," Hunter says and gives me a hopeful look.
I chuckle and place a swift kiss on his lips. "Of course baby," I agree. "I'll call up Brad too and we'll just make it a group thing."
Hunter grins at my response but says nothing in return. I shrug and push myself off my towel, brushing the sand away from my legs. I start packing up our belongings but stop when I notice that Hunter isn't doing the same.
"Don't you want to get going?" I ask him. "It's getting kind of late."
Hunter gives me a slow smile and then stands too. He looks directly into my eyes and the intensity of his gaze makes my knees buckle. Hunter brings his hand up to my face, brushing my cheek with the back of his knuckles.
My eyes study the beautiful man in front of me and I sigh with contentment. But when I begin to detect movement in the background, my head swivels to the side. I squint against the setting sun and see group of people moving towards us slowly. Some are carrying baskets of food, others simply carrying balloons and blankets. As they move closer, I realize these aren't just 'random' people. I know these people…every single one of them.
I see my mom and dad, Rex and his parents, Kelly's mom, Taylor, Elliot, Elliot's girlfriend, a few of my co-workers, and Brad. They see me looking back at them and smile. A few of them even wave. I frown as I look back at Hunter and see his eyes have not left my face.
"W-what's going on?" I ask curiously.
Hunter runs a nervous hand down the side of his face and sighs.
"I wanted everyone you loved to be here for the celebration."
Hunter gives me a tight-lipped smile and I notice his body beginning to tremble ever-so-slightly.
"When we visited Rex in the hospital all those months ago," Hunter says with a shaky voice, "and you read aloud his proposal to Kelly…do you know what went through my mind?"
I shake my head slowly, sweat beginning to form on the surface of my palms. My nervous eyes dart around the beach as I study my family members drawing nearer.
What the hell is going on….?
"Those words rang true to me in a way I never thought possible," Hunter continues, forcing my attention back to him. "Because the way Rex felt about Kelly…that's the way I feel about you."
My eyes widen when Hunter gets down on one knee. He pulls something from the pocket of his swim trunks. His masculine hand reaches for mine, and when I turn my palm up, he places in my hand the most beautiful ring I've ever seen.
"I know you wanted to wait, Jessie, but I've held this off for as long as I can bear. You are the girl of my dreams and I wish nothing more than to have you by my side forever. I love you, Jessie. And I always will."
Hunter sighs and squeezes his eye lids closed for a brief moment. When he opens them, the love I see shining through his eyes paralyzes me in place.
"Jessie," Hunter says softly. "Will you marry me?"
