* A/N Hey! New novel! If this were made into a movie, this is who I'd want to play Shani *
Chapter 1.
I look down at the map, wondering if I'm at the right place. I look up again at the building.
It's a white color, and the bricks look like they're withering away. The stairs to the entrance, and the little area in front of the building, is made of red bricks. On the sides of the stairs, are rails made of what looks like marble.
It's so old, and yet so beautiful. Just how I like it.
I walk to the entrance, and bring my suitcase along. I hear my black lace up boots making noise, against the brick. I open up the big, glass doors, and the smell of flowers, and vanilla fill my nose.
I walk up to the front desk, but nobody's there. I peek my head in through the window.
"Excuse me, I'm moving in today. And I need my key," I say, my British accent sounding so foreign. No answer.
"Ello?" I call, and finally someone walks up to the desk. He's tall, and very handsome. He has dark brown hair, and hazel eyes. His jaw line is strong, and you can tell he has muscles through his grey v-neck.
"Yes?" He asks, raising his eyebrows, and resting his elbows on the desk, as he chews on a pen.
"Um, I'm moving in today, and I kind of need my key?" I say, a little frusterated.
"Alright, what room number?" He asks.
I look down at my hand, and see the number on my wrist.
"Er, room 321," I say looking back up at him. He looks at me intently, then goes in the back room.
I tap my fingers on the desk, and after about five minutes, he comes back with two keys.
"Here you are," he says. I take the keys from him, and my fingers brush his. He looks up at me, and I blush and look away.
"Well, thank you," I say, awkwardly. I start to walk away, when I hear a voice call after me.
"Hey Australia," he calls after me. I turn around to open my mouth, to tell him I'm from England, but he stops me. "I need your name, for the resident book." He says.
"Oh, right." I walk back over. "My name's Shani. Shani DeLurain."
"Alright, thanks. See you later, Australia." He says, and goes into the back room.

I count down the room numbers, until I get to mine.
"Ah," I say. I put my key in the lock, and turn it as it swings open. I walk in, and look around the apartment.
I walk around, and go into the kitchen. It has granite counter tops, and stainless steel appliances. Like how I always wanted.
I walk into my bedroom, and feel empty. As empty as the room.
I sigh, and sit down in the middle of the floor.
There's a knock on the door. "What? Already?" I ask myself, as I stand up and smooth out midnight blue dress.
I open the door, and the guy from the desk is standing in front of me.
"Hey, Australia," he says. "You got mail, guess someone knew you were living here, and sent it so you would get it the day you arrived." He says, with a shrug.
"Oh, thanks," I say, as he walks back down the hallway, and I watch him go.

I pull myself onto the island in the kitchen, and sit on it. I take my dark purple finger nail, and slide it across the envelope, to tear it open. I peek inside, and see hundred dollar bills. And lots, and lots, of them. I gasp, and I take out a piece of paper stuck inside. I unfold it, and it reads,
Hi darling, just thought you might need some cash to buy whatever you need for the apartment, and yourself. You shall get another envelope soon. Just don't want you to live on bread and cheese.
Love you.
Xoxo,
Mother
My lips curl into a smile. I know exactly what to do with this.
