It was getting late that night. I had my girlfriend, Rachel, and her friend Molly over. We had just finished playing Halo 3 and were looking for something else to do when I suggested we go for a walk.
I lived right next to a field with an abandoned power plant. I knew that Rachel liked heights and I figured we could climb the main tower in the middle of the plant. I yelled at my parents that we were going for a walk. As a seventeen year old kid, I still kept my parents informed on what I was doing, but didn’t wait around their permission. Rachel and Molly were both fifteen. We headed out. It would take us about fifteen maybe twenty minutes to get to the abandoned plant. My sun-bleached blonde hair gleamed eerily in the light of the fading street lamps which had just turned on. I heard my front door slam shut and turned around just in time to see my little brother come running over to us. “Jim, lemme go with ya’ll.” “Whatever, Micah, just don’t get hurt,” I said. We got to the edge of the field and proceeded to climb through the split rail fence that was constructed for the sole purpose of keeping teenagers out. We began our trek through the field.
I looked over at Rachel. She was the most beautiful girl I had ever met. Ever. She was about five feet six inches tall and weighed 120 pounds with her shoes on. She had shoulder length light brown hair that was naturally a little curly. She had the most entrancing blue eyes that constantly shone with the joy that bubbled from her heart. She made everyone else around her happy, no matter their troubles. I could not have asked for a better girl.
I took a step closer to her. I wrapped my left arm around her waist and reached over with my right hand and stole her hand. I leaned over and teased, “You’re not getting that back. Ever.” In my heart I wished she’d never leave, but I knew in a hour or so, her mom would come over to pick up both her and Molly.
