Chapter 22: Hostages

Ty and I are sitting on a bench in the police station. The minute we got here George got straight to work and started explaining everything to the other police men. They all started shuffling around and setting up or starting many different things. Some of them were looking up information and contacting different people, some were getting ready to track the call when Cody called back, and others were testing the shoebox or doing other various things. Occasionly, a police officer will come by and ask Ty or I a question. It is only then that Ty looks up. He has been staring at the floor since we sat down and it is really starting to get on my nerves. I reach over and put my hand on his but he doesn't look up. I stare at him and fake cough, trying to get his attention.

"Kaitlin, I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry," he mumbles to his feet. Itilt my head in confusion.

"Ty, what are you talking about?"

"I could have warned you that the man was behind you," he mutters. Istare at him but he doesn't look up.

"Ty, look at me!" He slowly lifts his head. I stare into his sad eyes. "What are you talking about, Tyler?"

"Um, when we were getting our stuff out of the car I saw that man that snuck up on you standing at the edge of your property. I thought it was just someone visiting your neighbor or something. I didn't even think about why he was wearing a ski mask and dressed completely in black or why he was looking our direction. I should have been paying better attention or at least let you know that he was there. I totally ignored my gutt feeling that he was dangerous. I'm sorry." I turn this over in my head. So it wasn't just some random guy. He really was looking for me.

"Ty! I'm fine! I'm not mad or anything! It's done and over with. We're here and safe so stop beating yourself up. How were you supposed to know that he was going to come over to us," I reply. He just stares at me and nods.

"I'm sorry for being sorry," he teases. I laugh and punch him lightly in the arm. He leans me over to hug me but my cell phone starts to vibrate. I quickly pull it out and glance at the caller id. Unknown.

"George!" I call out. He comes running into the room and all the other police officers turn and stare at me. "It's him." They all pull on a pair of headphones and press a few keys on the computer. They have already programmed their computers to my phone so that they can listen and track every call.

"Go ahead, Kaitlin,"George says. I flip open my phone quickly and press it to my ear. Ty is holding my hand tightly and staring at me, watching my expressions.

"Hello?"I say quickly.

"Kaitlin! Are you there?" a voice replies. I feel my jaw drop at the sound of a girl's voice. I quickly glance up at the cops and see that all of them are just as surprised.

"Amy! Is that you?" I ask in a shaky voice.

"Yes, that was your friend." This time it is a male voice speaking. I gasp when I hear it. It is the same voice from last night. My guess, Cody White.

"What are you doing withher?" I shout.

"Relax girly. Her parents know that she is with me. In fact, they are here too. Would you like to speak with them too?" he says in a smug voice.

"No! I want you to let them go!"Iexclaim. He laughs and I cringe at the unpleasant sound.

"Well, that's not all I have. I'm sure you'll want to talk to these people." The phone goes quiet as it is passed to the next person.

"Kaitlin!"another familiar voice exclaims. I feel like I'm going to faint at the sound of her voice.

"Mom! He has you too," I sob. I start shaking and my vision is blurring. I reach for Ty's hand but only grab empty air. I look up and find him standing next to George, listening to this whole thing with headphones. He looks like he wants to murder someone.

"Oh wait, there's more," the evil voice teases. The phone is passed around again. I close my eyes, dreading hearing another voice.

"Kaitlin, don't worry. We are alright," a deep voice says. This does it. Now, tears are floding down my face.

"Matt! He has you too! Who else is there?" I mutter.

"Just me, Kaitlin." This voice isn't as familiar but I recognize it immediatly. Ty's dad. I glance across the room at his son. His eyes are filled with terror.

The phone is passed around once more. "Are you still there?"

"Yes. What do you want? Don't hurt any of them!" Iplead with the man who I'm terrified of. I make a mental list of who he has hostage. Amy, Mr. Farrell, Mrs. Farrell, Mom, Matt, and Mr. Walkins.

"I want you to meet me with the shoebox."

"Fine."

"Good. I'll be in touch later when I decide when I want to meet you."

"Okay. But I'm only coming if you promise to keep them safe and not hurt a single one of them," I say harshly.

"I plan to let them return home when you give me my money," he says smugly. I relax a little, even though I don't believe him.

"I hope my friend didn't scare you to much earlier today," he teases. I hear laughter in the background. The same laughter from earlier today. I gasp. Cody tried to kidnap me! He laughs at my silence, taking that as a response.

"Oh and Kaitlin? Tell all the police officers who are listening that if they want you all to return home safe and in one piece, than the only other person that will come with you is that friend of yours."

"Okay." I look up at the police surrounding me. They are all listening intently and taking notes. He laughs at my terror and I can hear his friends laughing in the background. He hangs up and I shut my phone without having to think about it. I glance up and the police have taken off their headphones are staring at their computers.

The only person looking back at me is Ty. He quickly walks over to me and pulls me against him. I wrap my arms around him and hug him tightly. I bury my face in chest, quieting my sobs. He kisses my head and I feel a tear drip onto my hair. He pulls away and pulls me into the conference room where it is quiet and we can be alone. He sits down on the sofa. I plop down next to him and he instantly puts his arms around me. I turn to look at his face. I take in everything about him. His deep, worried blue eyes. His trousled brown hair. His tan skin and well defined cheek bones. And most of all, his lips and how they are calling mine. Without thinking, I throw my arms around his neck and press my lips to his.

He reacts immediatly by kissing me back. His kisses are gentle and tender. Although those are nice, it isn't enough to quench my hunger for him. I tangle my hands in his hair and press myself closer to him. He responds and kisses me with passion and desire. As his lips move faster against mine I moan into his mouth. He leans back against the arm of the sofa, pulling me so I am laying on top of him. His kisses are making my whole body respond. Every place his skin brushes against me burns. I savor every bit of him. His smell, his touch, and most of all. His taste. Moments ago, I felt like my world was going to fall apart. Now, all of that has evaporated. The only thing that excists is the guy kissing me. The guy who I love and would do anything for.

Ty leans back, causing me to make a puckering face at empty air. He laughs quietly and I realize what I'm doing. I jump off of him and sit at the opposite end of the couch. He sits up and takes my hand, kissing each of my fingers. I giggle quietly as his lips brush against my skin. At every giggle he smiles and his eyes light up. I snuggle against him and we watch TV while police try and track the call.

We sit there staring at the TV for a few hours. I just stare, not really taking in what is happening during any of the shows. I'm busy thinking about everything that has happened since I saw Ty at the airport. "Do you think they'll figure something out?" I blurt. Ty looks at me with a confused look, but when Iglance over at the cops he understands.

"Don't worry. I know they'll figure something out," he says, looking in their direction.

"I know, but there is no way that you can tell me you aren't worried at all," I reply.

"Of course I'm worried, but I have to remain confident otherwise I'm going to start freaking out and lose control of myself," he admits. I nod.

"Yeah. I'm determined to make sure that no one gets hurt and this guy ends up in jail," Iexclaim. He shakes his head and laughs under his breath.

"Sweetie, you already failed that no one gets hurt part," he teases, lifting up my casted arm. I stare at blankly. Honestly, Ihad completely forgotten about it because it hadn't been hurting and there's just been so much going on. I glare at him though and hit him playfully on the arm with my unhurt arm.

"Besides me, Ty. I just care about everyone else, not so much myself." Ty glares at me with an annoyed expression. "What?" I don't get what he is glaring at me for.

"Kaitlin, don't say that. You may not be worried about yourself but think about what I would do if something ever happened to you?" he mutters. I turn this over in my head and nod.

"I know but I would do anything to keep you and everyone safe." He pulls me into a hug and kisses me gently.

"I know, love." I hear footsteps approaching and I quickly scoot out of his arms. We both glance up and see George standing by us.

"Um, are you two hungry?" We both say yes. "Well, I ran and got you guys some Burger King if you want it."

"Thanks, George." He hands us the bag and then walks out of the room after telling us that we can sleep in here so it will be quiet while they all keep working. Ty and Ieach have a burger and a small fry. There is a large coke but an extra cup. George may not be my dad but he is protective of me and tries to keep some distance between Ty and I. I just set the extra cup in the bag and set the soda between Ty and I on the floor.

I eat my food quickly, not realizing how hungry I am. Ty finishes before I do and when he is done he rests his head on the back of the couch. By the time I am done, he is snoring quietly. I stand up and throw away all of our trash. Isit back down next to him. I flip on the TV and sound comes blasting out. I quickly turn it down but Ty is already awake next to me.

"Sorry," I whisper. He sits up straight and turns so he is facing me. He puts his hands on my waist. Ty leans forward and whispers into my ear.

"It's alright." I shiver at the tickle of his breath. He smiles and then moves his face directly in front of mine. We stare into each others eyes like couples always do in movies. Before I met Ty, I never understood how people could do that. Finally, Ty closes those few centimeters and presses his lips to mine. I kiss him back tenderly and press myself to him. His smooth lips move in sink in with mine. His mouth opens slightly and his tongue traces my lips. I respond by allowing our tongues to dance. I tangle my hands in his dark brown hair and he holds me tighter. This is aboslutly perfect. Just Ty and Iin our own little world. I slid one hand under his shirt and run my fingers along his bare chest. He moans quietly and his warm, sweet breath hits my face. I sigh and close my eyes tighter. With every kiss he holds me tighter. He kisses my forehead and then sits back a little. I cling to him though and he just laughs under his breath.

"No more for tonight. It's time to go to sleep," Ty whispers. I shake my head in disagreement and he smiles. "Ilove you, Kaitlin Smith." He sits back agains the couch and turns to the TV. Irest my head on his chest and he puts a protective arm around me.

"I love you too, Tyler Walkins." He kisses the top of my head and I concentrate on the even pace of his heart. Soon, Ihear him snoring softly and I start to drift off to sleep.
