As soon as the words were out of his mouth, I felt myself stiffen completely. I was beginning to accept the fact that I was indeed a Goddess or whatever, but this vampire thing was...too much. I’ve never liked vampires. It repulsed me the way they fed. The drink and kill innocent people, just for their blood. The thought of it sickened me.
“You are....repulsed.” Demetry stated, his voice betraying no emotion.
His words stunned me a little. Did it really show on my face how disgusted I felt? “Well...Yeah I am.” I said truthfully after a pause.
“I’m not surprised.” He stated.
“You shouldn’t be,” I replied indifferently.
The room was silent again, and this time, my eyes darted to Ashley. I let out a small gasp of horror when I realized that she had the same pale skin as Demetry. So did Marion. Did that mean that they were –
“Yes, we are.” Ashley said softly, looking at me.
I exhaled sharply, then took a few deep breaths. This meant that I was in a room, with three vampires who are probably thirsting for my blood. I wasn’t exactly scared, just mad.
“So, were you going to pretend to be my friend, just so you can drink my blood later on?” I asked, my tone turning slightly hard.
“No, it’s not what you think. We don’t drink human blood. And no, I will never hurt you.” She said, sounding hurt.
I flinched a little. “Then what? Animal blood? Is that it?” I asked sarcastically.
“Yes, exactly.” Marion said, speaking for the first time.
That pulled me up short. So..they were vampires, but they didn’t drink human blood? That was a little weird.
“Okay...” I said, sounding unsure. “What kind of animals?” I pressed.
“Almost anything we can find. But we don’t kill excessively. We hunt in different areas.” She said, sounding a little bored.
“Does that mean you’d drink a rat’s blood?” I asked, feeling disgusted once more.
“No.” She said as though it was obvious, wrinkling her nose. “But if it’s the only hope for survival, we will.” She said, turning serious again.
“Right.” I said, still not convinced. “So, are you going to kill me now? Or save me for later?” I asked again.
“Like my cousin said Shaia, we will not kill you.” She said slowly, putting strong implications on ‘we will not kill you’. “Actually, we are the opposite. We are here to protect you, from others like Jared,“ She said, sneering at his name.
“Is that all?” I asked, keeping my tone sceptical. “And are you really cousins with Ashley?” I asked, surprised. They looked nothing alike. Ashley was fun and bubbly, whereas Marion was sort of silent and serious.
“Yes, to both questions,” She said.
I didn’t speak again. I weighed my options. First, I could call my parents in the morning and tell them that I was in a room with three vampires and later wind up in a white cell for the rest of my life. Second, I could believe these three vampires in front of me, and probably get killed later on. Third, I could just end my life, right here, right now. Huh, I can’t decide which sounds more exciting, I thought sarcastically to myself.
“You are not, going to kill yourself, neither are you going to tell your parents, and neither are you going to get killed.” Ashley said sternly to me.
How did she know what I was thinking? Oh, great! We have a mind reader in our presence. Hi Ashley. I said to her in my thoughts, testing out the theory.
“Oh, very funny Shaia. Quit it. I can hear peoples’ thoughts, alright?” She said, sounding a little irritated, but she gave me a smile.
Course I will. I said in my head to her, smirking.
I saw Ashley sigh but she gave me a smile. “So do you believe us now?” She asked, her face hopeful.
My face was neutral again, and this time I thought hard. They seemed to be telling the truth, so why not? Because it’s dangerous, cried a soft voice at the back of my head. I forced it out of my head, and gave Ashley a half smile. “I guess so. But you have to tell me everything. I’m still very confused.” I told her.
She beamed at me and smiled triumphantly at Demetry and her cousin. “No problem. What do you want to know?” She asked me, smiling.
“Um.... What happen to Prince Lucas’s son? Where did Demetry put him? Why am I the reincarnation of Artemis? Am I good or evil? Am I even human?” I blurted out all the questions that came to my head. I definitely had more, but these had the highest priority.
“Demetry put him in an orphanage, but watched over him closely. You are the reincarnation because it was prophesised and you carry the mark Artemis on your wrist. There shouldn’t have been another reincarnation, but the last reincarnated Goddess, well....She turned bad and Prince Lucas had to destroy her, with our help of course.” She said, pausing for awhile before continuing. “I’m not sure. That is your choice. I’m sorry to say this, but if you do choose the dark side, we shall have to be enemies and destroy you like the last one.” She told me. “You are human. But with special powers.” She said, smirking a little.
Now I felt a little weird. Does that mean I could do magic or stuff like that? I think that would be freaky. “What kind of powers?” I asked, my voice coming out as a squeak.
She smirked at me and shrugged. “That is for you to figure out.” She said, sounding smug.
If I am lucky, I wouldn’t have any, I told myself. “I heard you mention the word 'prophesised' just now. Do you mean there was a prophecy about me?” I asked, curious again.
“It wasn’t really about you. It was just a prophecy about the restoration of peace.” She said.
“Okay. What did it say?”
“Thee whose Goddess Artemis’s blood runs through and thee who bears the mark of the crescent shall be the reincarnation of her. Thee shall only reincarnate once every five generations.” She recited for me.
It took me a moment to understand and replay what she had said. I counted in my head, and knew that I was indeed the fifth generation of the family since Prince Lucas. “Okayy... So...What do I do?” I asked, still a tad bit confused.
“Since you know what and who you really are now, you have to choose.” She said.
“Choose....” I echoed.
“Yes, choose now, or it will be too late. Good or evil, Shaia?” Marion said, before Ashley could say anything else.
My answer was already in my head. Of course I chose good. I mean seriously. Did I look like some evil badass to them? Obviously not. “Good.” I said firmly.
“Fantastic.” The three vampires said at the same time.
I still felt weird, but I knew I would have to learn and accept the fact.
“Okay, now all of you guys, out! Shaia needs to clean up.” Ashley said, her voice cheery but commanding.
“Sure, cousin.” Demetry said to her, a big smirk on his face.
I gasped and stared. So they were all related.
“Bye Demetry.” She said, smirking at his name. “Marion.” She said, smiling at her cousin.
Then in a flash, both Demetry and Marion were gone. All I heard was a soft gust of wind.
“Whoa. How did they do that?” I asked, staring at the spot they had been standing.
“One of the many vampire traits.” Ashley answered, sounding smug. "Are you glad they are gone?" She asked softly.
I paused for awhile before answering her question. "Well, yes and no. It's a lot to take in, you know. I was practically a social outcast, now I'm a reincarnation of some Goddess. And to top it off, I have vampire friends." I told her.
She smiled and gave me a friendly but comforting hug. "You are not a social outcast Shaia. You never were." She told me, releasing me.
"I am actually. You just known me. Well, I choose to be one." I told her.
"Why?" She asked.
I turned away from her and sighed. "Nothing."
"Well, okay. But trust me, you really are nice. And really pretty too." She told me honestly.
I felt a tear roll down my cheek and I sniffed. "Thanks." I told her, my voice breaking.
I heard footsteps retreating and a door closing, and I knew Ashley went to the bathroom, since I was still facing the door to our room. I also went into my bathroom and closed the door. If only this bathroom had a bathtub, it would be great for me to relax. But I could deal with a shower, so it was fine. I stripped off all my clothes and stepped into the hot shower. I took my time and wash my hair, enjoying the hot water as it rained down on me.
When I was done, I turned the shower off and I wrapped a towel around myself and stepped out of the shower. I dried my hair with the towel, then hanged the towel on the railing. I wore my undergarments then pulled on a blue spaghetti strap top and white shorts. My hair was still wet, but I didn't bother drying it since I was used to sleeping with it still damp.
When I walked out off the toilet, I saw that Ashley was still in the toilet. That's a long time. She never spends that long in the shower. Maybe something is wrong. I thought to myself worriedly. I half ran across the room and tapped lightly on the door, calling out her name. No answer. I tried again, louder this time. Still no answer. I banged the door hard and shouted out her name. Nothing, nada. I opened the door, only to see a dark figure towering over me, smirking.
