I ran through the apartment looking for my wallet when I heard a loud laugh coming from the living room. At first, I just ignored it and brushed it off my shoulder assuming that there was just something funny on TV. As went from room to room I noticed Ted laughing harder.
“Ted, what did you do with my wallet?” I asked him in a stern voice with my hands on my hips. Brad and Lauren were absorbed in the football game they were playing.
“Why Belle, I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Ted replied snickering.
“C’mon Ted, just give Belle all the stuff you took while she wasn’t look.” Brad said to him while playing madden. Ted wanted to protest but he knew better.
“Party pooper.” Ted said rolling his eyes like a child then tossing me my wallet.” Lauren paused the game and we all looked at him in silence. “What? That’s all I took.”
“Sure you don’t.” I said in a sarcastic tone. Ted sighed and tossed me a ball of crumpled up money and my makeup bag. “Thank you very much. If only I had a license, since I don’t…” I smiled at Lauren. “I was hoping my special sister Lauren could drive me?” I looked at her puppy dog eyes but she didn’t even glance in my direction.
“I’m busy right now. If I win against Brad then we can go. If I don’t beat him, we stay until I do.” I looked over and saw he was winning by a lot without much time left for a miracle, come back.
“But you never win Lauren.” I complained.
“That’s going to end today.” I thought she would lose as if she always did and became dispirited, I began to walk away when I heard my sister scream touchdown. I turned around smiling and saw Brad wink at me then I did the same. This was a huge defeat because Brad had lot of pride in his status of being undefeated. Since the game ended, Lauren held up her end of the deal and we left to the mall.
I sat in the backseat with Brad staring out the window while Ted and Lauren talked about their last date. I turned to brad and rolling my eyes jokingly. We both laughed quietly.
“When will we be there?” He whispered.
“Soon I hope.” I replied then he smiled t me. We both simultaneously sighed in relief as we pulled into the parking lot.
“Oh, hold on I have a list of what I need to get! I nee some books and some other stuff wouldn’t hurt either…” I turned to my bag and got out my list but by the time I turned around Lauren and Ted had already trued and headed off on their own. “They’re probably going to stupid sports and game stores.” I pouted.
“We can still shop,” He began. “Where to first?”
“Boarders? I’m in the mood to get some books.”
“After you,” Brad smiled and we almost every store on the way and then every aisle until we got to the books I liked. I came to a complete stop when I the latest book by my favorite author Ellen Hopkins.
“Oh my gosh, she wrote a new book!” I grabbed that book along with a few others and one for brad to read. After I had a pile of about five books, I pulled brad into an aisle and began to read the summaries.
“You really love to read huh?” He asked me.
“Yeah, I’m kind of a dork.” I blushed.
“No, its adorable.” This comment made me turn deep crimson. Brad looked at me sweetly. I started to blush more then he saved me some embarrassment. “Why don’t you buy those books and then we can check out another store. You said other stuff wouldn’t hurt right?” We both laughed and headed towards the checkout counter when I realized I didn’t have enough due to the shopping we did before. I had to put back the book by Ellen Hopkins and pay then Brad practically dragged me out of the store.
When we were walking back to the food court to meet Ted and Lauren I saw a pair of gorgeous heels with pretty straps in a display. I was stopped short, mesmerized, then practically ran inside with Brad following.
“Can you even walk in those?” He asked me.
“Of course I can. I want them! I reached for my wallet and remembered it was empty. I dropped my stare to the ground and sighed angrily.
“How about this; if you can walk in those, I’ll buy them for you.” Brad said with a sly smile on his face. He thought I really couldn’t… and he was right, but I couldn’t step down from a challenge.
“DEAL!” I sat on the bench in the store and quickly put on the heels then stood up, almost too quick to stay balanced. I took one-step at a time; gradually walking faster then stopped and turned to Brad.
“See, I told you I could. I could even walk backwards….” I started to walk backwards and I tripped and fell, right into his arms. Caught up in the moment I didn’t notice anyone but him and then it happened… he kissed me. We stood upright and smiled as we stared into each other’s eyes until heard my phone buzz. He let go of me and we stood the awkwardly as I read the text from my sister.
“Ted and Lauren are pissed at us.” I blushed.
“Oh… Uh we should probably head back then. But first take off those heels.” Brad smiled at me and we both laughed and headed to the food court.
“When we got there Lauren and Ted were quiet. They looked at brad then my almost tomato red face and Ted opened his big mouth.
“Now that you love birds are here, let’s go home.” Ted said annoyed. On the way home, we passed a sign for a carnival for that night.
“There’s a carnival in town!” Lauren exclaimed as we passed the sign. We ass started laughing. “We’re going, my car, my apartment, and my rules!” I looked at her. “I’M SERIOUS!”
“Guess we’re going to the carnival guys.” I said chuckling. We got home with a few hours to kill.
