"Red or black?" I asked Jessy holding up a shoe in each hand. She looked up over the rim of her glasses from her phone. "Black," she answered, "if you wear the red shoes, it'll be too much red." I turned around and faced the full length mirror and checked myself out. The red and black mini dress was hugging every curve on my body. "Black it is," I said before turning back to face Jessy. "I can't believe you're not coming out with us." She put her phone down on the mahogany wooden night stand and sighed. "I'll come out next weekend Myah, I promise. Ray won't stay with the kids tonight 'cause he's gonna go watch the game with his boys." I shrugged and gave her a look that said 'I guess'.

Jessy's been my best friend since we were in middle school. She's always been a smart girl and all, but when it comes to her baby daddy Ray, she just dumbs out. He practically runs her life, so any time I get with her is good for me. I just wish she took more control of her life than to let his bum ass lay it out for her. We used to do everything together. We don't do much of anything anymore. But she's right by my side any chance she gets away from Ray.

"Are you sure you'll be able to come out next weekend? It's Jodi's birthday and I don't wanna hear no shit about Ray not letting you go," I said with my hands on my hips. "I'm sure. I already got my mom to watch the kids for the weekend." I applied a slick coat of lip gloss and ran my hands down the sides of my dress. I sprayed some perfume on and grabbed my keys from my dresser. "I hope so," I mumbled.

I stood by my bedroom door as she grabbed her purse and cell phone from the night stand. She walked out hitting the light switch and made her way down the stairs. I followed her down and made my way to the mini bar in my living room. I cracked open a new bottle of Ciroc vodka and poured some in a glass. I tossed it back and put the glass down on the counter. "Ok, now I'm ready," I said grabbing my clutch, making sure I had everything I needed in there. I turned to face Jessy who had the only straight face. "You ok girl?" She faked a smile and replied, "Yeah I'm fine. Just tired is all." "Well text me when you get home. I love you." She made her way to the door, turned around and responded, "I love you too," then walked out.

My cell phone was ringing in my clutch. I pulled it out and saw Jodi on the caller display.

"Hey," I answered.

"What up biotch? You ready?" Jodi asked. I could hear the wind in the background indicating that she was driving with the windows down.

"Yeah Jessy just left. I'm about to walk out the door now."

"Good. I wanna get there before the line gets crazy. Is Jessy ok?"

"I think so. She didn't say much except that she can't go out tonight because Ray is going to watch the game with his boys. Ugh, I can't stand him."

"Watch the game my ass. That nigga is probably just gonna go to the strip club or go fuck some other bitch. I don't know why she doesn't just leave his sorry ass already. I can't stand him either. Anyways get your ass in your car and let's go!"

"Leaving now. I'll see you there."

I put the phone back in my clutch, checked myself in the mirror once more and headed out the door. The night was warm with just a bit of a breeze. I looked up at the sky to see the moon full and looking back down at me. There were only a few stars that dotted the plum colored sky. I walked down the front steps and down the driveway to my car. The red paint on the Mustang looked burgundy at night, minus the spot on the hood that had the moonlight reflecting off it. I got in and started the engine. "Hi baby," I said patting the dashboard. I reversed out of the driveway and headed downtown to Club Lava.

The purple sky was glowing orange as I got closer to the city. The sidewalks were packed with people trying to get into clubs and bars. I pulled up to the parking lot of Club Lava and honked the horn at Jodi, who was already making her way to the door. I parked in the nearest parking space and got out the car and walked over to the entrance, locking the car with the remote as I did.

"About time," she said rolling her eyes before flashing a huge grin, "Ready?" I linked my arm with hers as we walked in the door. "As ready as I'll ever be."

Reggaeton was pouring out of the speakers. Guys were breaking their necks as me and Jodi made our way to the bar. She did look amazing. Her green tube dress matched her eyes and her long brown hair was flowing down her back in loose curls. "What can I get you ladies?" The bartender asked us. He was absolutely drop dead gorgeous. His hair was dark brown, almost black and cut short. His face was clean shaved and his brown eyes went perfect with his tanned complexion. The tight black shirt he was wearing defined the muscles that were carved under it. He looked like a god. "I want a sex on the beach," Jodi ordered. "And for you?" he smiled at me. God I could melt. "Um, I'll have a Long Island iced tea," I replied. "Sure thing. Be right back," he said flashing me a smile before he turned around to make the drinks.

"You ok girl? You look a little flustered," Jodi nudged me. "I'm fine," I smiled. "Just a little warm, that's all." I looked around and studied my surroundings. I always do that when I go out. I like to know what's going on around me. The bartender came back with our drinks and placed them on the counter.

"Here you go ladies. This round is on the house," he said flashing us a smile. "Thank you," me and Jodi said together. "No problem. Enjoy your night."

We went into the bathroom to check ourselves. We always do that. Girls were in the mirror fixing their makeup and hair. Other girls were in the far side of the bathroom doing bumps of coke. Gross. It's kind of normal around here. Drug dealers are all over the club. They have girls that walk around for them selling to girls in the bathroom and guys in the parking lot. Most of those girls didn't last in the business, though. They would end up testing the stuff and getting hooked.

I looked in the mirror and applied some more lip gloss onto my lips. I smacked my lips together and walked back to Jodi. "Come on," I said to her. "I wanna go check out the deck." She nodded and we both made our way out the bathroom. Jodi bumped into a tall Spanish girl with blonde hair named Vicky. Vicky worked for one of the big time drug dealers from around the area named Eddie. The other girls usually didn't mess with Vicky. She was Eddie's prize girl. She's been around since Eddie started his business and made examples of girls and guys who crossed her.

"Watch it bitch," Vicky hissed at Jodi as she made her way into the bathroom. "Whatever." Jodi rolled her eyes at her and kept walking. Vicky is such a bitch, I thought to myself. Jodi must have been thinking the same thing because she took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "That bitch needs an ass whoopin'."

I agreed, nodding my head. We walked up a set of stairs and through two glass doors to an outside deck. There was a DJ on the stage and two bars on each side of it. Green, red and blue lights were flashing everywhere. Some people were dancing in the middle, while others stood along the sides by the railings and sat at tables talking.

"Hey Myah, I'm going to get another drink," Jodi said. I nodded, "Don't go too far." I walked over to the rail and put my hands on it. I closed my eyes and took in the sweet smell of the night. I felt so relaxed. I opened my eyes and looked down at the parking to the back entrance. The only people that go in through that door are the guards, the owner and friends of the owner.

A black Escalade pulled into the back parking lot. Four guys got out of the truck dressed in black suits. I recognized the passenger as the owner. Mikey. That's his name. The driver was his personal security guard, more like a friend, Ozzie. I wasn't sure who the other two were. I never saw them before. Mikey looked up at me, and then went through the door with the guys.

I turned around and saw Jodi talking to some guy. When she saw me she said something to the guy with a smile and walked away from him. She walked back over to me, "Ready to go to the lower level?" "Yeah," I replied smiling at her. She led the way back to the glass doors and we went back down the stairs to the lower lever. The lower level played hip hop and the atmosphere was laid back. The crowd was different from the upper level. It was mostly black people and a few Spanish down here as to where the upper level is crowded with Spanish people. A couple of white people were in and out, but they were there for the drugs.

"What's up mami? You wanna dance?" I recognized that voice. It was a Spanish guy named Sammy. He was known for getting girls drunk, fucking them and then playing them out when he got bored with them. He smelled like alcohol and he was obviously high from the glossy look in his eyes. "No, I'm good," I replied sweetly with a smile. "Aw, come on girl. You don't wanna have a good time with Sammy?" He laughed and staggered a little. I shook my head and turned to Jodi. "I need another drink," I said. She nodded her head and pointed to the bar on the other side of the floor. I felt a hand grab my arm and spin me around. I came chest to chest with Sammy. "I said let's dance," he growled. I tried to push away from him, but his grip was too strong.

"And she said no. Now let her go before we have a problem," a deep voice behind me said in a tone that would make anyone stop in their tracks.
