I was once again dreamless in my slumber, but how could I dream when I was so restless. The next day I woke up to someone's presense in the room. I felt like I hadn't gotten any sleep at all. My eyes opened effortlessly seeing as it felt like I had just closed them. I saw that Jordan was standing by the window staring at me. My heart skipped a beat as it always did around him. I still don't know what that means. Imediately I felt so much better.
"Hey Jordan!" I said, shooting up in bed. He looked out the window as soon as my eyes met his.
"Hello Princess" he said, his voice distant.
"What did I tell you about that princess thing?" I asked smiling.
"Oh right, sorry" he said softly. So soft that I couldn't hear him almost. I wondered what was up. He didn't seem like himself.
"You've slept for a while Princess. It's already noon. Everything's being prepared and they need you in the tailor's room for your dress fitting. Go down the hall to the first turn you see. Go on that turn and go in the first door on the left" he said quickly and he was out the door before I could tell him not to call me princess again. Now I was distraught again. What was up with him? Was he as upset about the ball as I was? Then again, why would he be?
I decided to dress in a black skirt with leggings, a spagetti strapped purple tank top so I didn't get hot under the magenta robe I was wearing and some good old combat boots. It was something I could wear if I had to slip whatever dress the tailors had cooked up for me. The halls were hauntingly silent and it just made the dread of the coming night more evident. When I finally got to the door I was sure Jordan spoke of, after taking so much time getting there curtisy to my slow feet, I was even more hopeless than I was when I woke up this morning. I stood outside the door for I don't know how long before it swung open from the other side. There stood a man with a brilliant tan and sparkling brown eyes that contrasted with his choppy black hair. He tapped his chin, inspecting me.
"Oh yes bella, even as a mere human, you are beautiful. Nice blood as well. We'll have you ready for a mate in no time!" He said with a thick French accent, ushering me into a room larger than mine. It looked a lot like a bridal shop where you tried on dresses. It was amazing sure, but it only made me feel more nervous. That's exactly what I didn't need. More nerves. He lead me up on a pedistal so that now, I was taller than him instead of the other way around. He was really tall like Jordan but just a little shorter. It made me wonder if all vampire guys were tall. Tons of woman started running up to me and started measuring what seemed to be every part of me.
"They have yet to begin on the dress Bella. It wont take too long. We prefer to design the dress to match the woman. It makes it more enjoyable that way. We are experts at it. The very best. We've been the royal family's tailors since the very beginning of time" he said inspecting me once more. He made a signal to a red headed woman sewing in the corner. I couldn't tell what it meant but I didn't think about it too much.
"We'll start getting you ready now anyway, it'll take a while and time passes fast in Valgarsi" he said, pulling me over to a set that reminded me of a hair salon without the mirrors. "You can't see until we're finished. It makes the suprise better" he said.
"We're going to make you anew!" He said in delight. I couldn't help but giggle at his grammar. He first plugged in a curler. It was exciting to find out that I was going to be pampered since I had never been pampered before, so at least that was something. He ran his fingers through my hair and I felt them snag at a couple spots.
"You humans always did have those annoying tangles. Don't worry sweetie, those'll be gone once you're turned" he said, clicking his tounge. He grabbed a brush off the counter and started brushing. Instead of the pain I expected to feel, it was sweet. Almost soothing.
"So are you excited to find your mate then?" He asked, surely not expecting the answer I gave.
"No" I said, trying not to sound too downy on his soul mate finding parade.
"Oh why?! It is a beautiful thing! I remember when I was turned by Justin. It was so nice to know we'd always be together. I remember when I first saw him, I thought what a gorgeous piece of man candy. I must have him!" He said, his voice high and mighty almost sounding American. I giggled, slightly because I was shocked but not too shocked about him being gay and mostly because that was one of the funnier things I had ever heard.
"You see, it is a beautiful thing! When you realize that that one person is the one for you, you'll remember your first thoughts forever. Literally" he said laughing.
"He's going to be there but we'll be going together you know. Sorry honey, he's mine" he said. I giggled again, feeling free.
"I'll introduce you. Maybe save you from the hounding sacks of meat" he said winking.
"That would be awesome" I said grinning.
"Though I still don't know what you're complaining about. Being sorrounded by millions of hot men. Hey if it were me and I wasn't already taken, I'd be ready and waiting" he said, clicking his tounge again.
"Yeah well, it's not that I don't want a mate. It sounds lovely really. It's just that I don't want to end up being put with some random vampire just to protect me or whatever. Even though they say it's my choice, it's probably going to end up happening that way and I don't know. I guess I'm kind of afraid that out of all the vampires in the entire realm, I'm not going to find my soul mate and that'll mean I'm meant to be alone and human forever" I said, finally admitting it to not only him but myself as well.
"Never worry about that little one. For every human born out there, there is an original waiting to be their soul mate" he siad.
"You sound like a poet" I said a small smile still on my face.
"Oh but I'm not. It's rubbed off Justin, trust me" he said, exagerating the trust me part.
"Ok, we're all done with the hair. Don't worry, it looks fabulous" he said. I was shocked. Had a lot of time already passed? Or was he just really fast? I couldn't tell. Everything was fuzzy on time in Valgarsi.
"Now on to the make up. My favorite part!" He exclaimed, clapping. He kneeled down in front of my chair with all different kinds of makeup now spread across the counter. I still wasn't quite use to how fast vampires were. I could only ever imagine, but it was nothing compared to the real thing. I had a little of an idea of what he put on me, the only thing I could see. There was a little pink blush, probably not very noticeable. Some mascara and black eyeliner. He laid it on thick I could tell. I smiled, just the way I liked it. Then he took out a tube of ruby red lipstick.
"Red against pale skin is absoloutely stunning" he said, placing it on as I puckered. He backed away, inspecting me with a smile on his face.
"Some of my best work, I'm sure of it" he said.
"We're all done with the dress Leo" a young girl with the looks of fifteen said, her voice meak.
"Great! Now close your eyes princess. You can't see the dress either" Leo said, covering my eyes. I couldn't see anything. Not even through the cracks between his fingers. I felt them pulling something soft over my head and I felt it hugging my curves tightly. It had spagetti straps and it was flowy at the bottom.
"Ok, now open" Leo said, taking his hands off my eyes.
"Oh my God."
