DOORS
© 2007, Wanda L. Harrell
Doors open wide and doors close tight
Doors of every size and every height
Doors short and doors tall
Doors big and doors small
Doors with knobs, doors with bars
Doors on houses, doors on cars
Doors keeping out rain and wind
Doors to keep things out or hold things in
Doors that open, doors that swing
All kinds of doors on almost everything
We passionately kissed goodbye, and then I closed the door
I thought there would be another time, actually many more
That my front door would open, and you'd walk right back in
But oh, sweet baby, I was wrong; I was totally mistaken
You have no idea how I wish I'd never closed that door
Since then, I've not seen you again, not even once more
Sometimes at night, I've dreamed you opened the door
And my heart pounded when you walked across the floor
I didn't want to wake up, ‘cause even in dreams, I feared
That I'd open my eyes to find you had again disappeared
Doors open wide and doors close tight
Doors of every size and every height
Doors short and doors tall
Doors big and doors small
Doors with knobs, doors with bars
Doors on houses, doors on cars
Doors blocking the rain and wind
Doors to keep things out or hold things in
Doors that open, doors that swing
All kinds of doors on almost everything
Baby, there's only one door I want you to find
Only one door I want you to open another time
Baby, I didn't let you know how much I love and care
Now, I'm lookin' at my door, never seeing you standing there
I just want once more to see your face come in that door
Just once more, baby, baby, open the door just once more
