We meet in dark of night;
in shadows of moonlight.
Our love in secret show;
whispers sweet said low.
~~~
Oh that we might proclaim;
a love not loved in vain.
Fearing not the dawn sun;
moon’s fading glimmers shun.
~~~
Of common birth thou art;
and I of noble heart.
For this we are forbid;
our feelings to be hid.
~~~
Love’s passion’s fire burns bright;
as we embrace the night.
Thy kisses bitter sweet;
till once again we meet.
~~~
Beneath the moon’s warm glow;
sweet maid my love doth grow.
The sun shines in thy face;
warming me with thy grace.
~~~
One day we will be free;
of pompous deity.
To love beneath the sun;
love’s battle will be won.
~~~
Till then my heart’s content;
in moonbeams hours spent.
In joyous drunk delight;
on love’s wine throughout night.
