Rain’s Requiem
By Christopher Owens
Why, oh why, did you have to go?
I feel so lost and alone.
I am longing, so longing, to know
If you are truly happy.
I thought our love was so strong
It could overcome any enemy.
But it seems the long cold hand
Could still take your breath away.
Please come back my love!
Without you, I have no reason to live.
I swore myself upon your cold, gray slab
My heart, to no one else, shall I give.
CHORUS:
I sing the requiem of the rain
Praying it will bring you back again.
With the droplets as my orchestra
And the winds as my chorus,
I hope no other obstacles
Will lie down before us.
I hope you can hear me baby
I harmonize only for you.
Please, let my bare empty hands
Find their way to you.
The roses I hold in my grasp
No longer contain their color.
The procession laid out for you
Is unlike any other.
I collapse to my knees
Unable to contain my sorrow.
My arms wrap around your epitaph
As the tears scribble down my face.
I wish I could hold you again to my chest
And feel my heart begin to race.
CHORUS:
I sing the requiem of the rain
Praying it will bring you back again.
With the droplets as my orchestra
And the winds as my chorus,
I hope no other obstacles
Will lie down before us.
I hope you can hear me baby
I harmonize only for you.
Please, let my bare empty hands
Find their way to you.
I see a light above me.
And see you fly with the wings of an angel.
You smile brilliantly, but also shed a silent tear
Because you long to be right here.
You kiss me once, setting my sorrow free.
As you soar to the clouds above, you smile and say
“Remember me.”
CHORUS:
I sing the requiem of the rain
Praying it will bring you back again.
With the droplets as my orchestra
And the winds as my chorus,
I hope no other obstacles
Will lie down before us.
I hope you can hear me baby
I harmonize only for you.
Please, let my bare empty hands
Find their way to you.
CHORUS:
I sing the requiem of the rain
Praying it will bring you back again.
With the droplets as my orchestra
And the winds as my chorus,
I hope no other obstacles
Will lie down before us.
I hope you can hear me baby
I harmonize only for you.
Please, let my bare empty hands
Find their way to you.
To a special chorus angel
May she be free.
