Straight Path
I may not look like much
But I walk the straight path.
I won’t let the evils touch me.
And I do it all for you.
While passing under the street lights
I look all around me
And see the claws of temptation dig in.
But from the straight path I will not stray.
I will push the sins away.
I will not let our love decay.
Because you mean more to me than anything.
I will block out the lust.
Lock the door on the greed.
Shut the window on the anger.
Wake up from the nightmare of sloth.
Say no to the gluttony.
Reject all of my envy.
And kiss most of my pride goodbye
Except for one special treasure.
I am proud of the fact that we are together.
It is enough of a saving grace
To kick the seven sins into the grave.
I don’t need to wear a red cape
In order to become your Superman.
I don’t need to swing on webs
In order to save you from the bad guys.
Although I do walk the straight path
I can never forget that I am human.
I can make mistakes as easily as the next person.
So long as we walk the straight path together
I will shield you from the dark.
In this eternity of waiting for you
I am nowhere near ready to let you go.
My love for you is an ocean
Ebbing to and fro with my heart.
