A Walk in the Snow
I never want to be the one who’ll follow you,
I’ll take your hand and guide you through life’s trials.
The distance that we’ve travelled makes for quite a view,
A glance behind will show how many miles.
I promise that I’ll be the one who supports you,
To lift you when you fall onto the ground.
The path ahead is long and yet we’ll travel through
To show to all the truest love is found
My feet crunch the snow, printing in my track,
Whilst not here your steps keep pace beside me.
Questions ringing in my head, as if you spoke out loud
I answer one by one, with no need to look round.
“Why is it my footsteps stopped, and you walked ahead alone?”
I answered dear “I carried you, over the rocks and stones”
“Why is it the path was scuffed? You let me trip and fall?”
“I threw myself to shield you dear, because I heard your call”
“Why is it the footsteps stopped, there are no tracks at all”
“My darling that is when we soared, above the trees so tall”
“Tell me now why I’m not here, did you leave me far behind?”
I answered “Dear, you are still here, both in my heart and mind”
I never want to be the one who’ll follow you,
I’ll take your hand and guide you through life’s trials.
The distance that we’ve travelled makes for quite a view,
A glance behind will show how many miles.
I promise that I’ll be the one who supports you,
To lift you when you fall onto the ground.
The path ahead is long and yet we’ll travel through
To show to all the truest love is found
My feet crunch the snow, printing in my track,
Whilst not here your steps keep pace beside me.
Questions ringing in my head, as if you spoke out loud
I answer one by one, with no need to look round.
“What is on the path ahead? I can’t see through the snow”
“Darling it’s exciting, because we do not know”
“What if cold comes closing in or I cannot carry on?”
“I’ll build a house for us to live, until the cold has gone”
I cannot see our path behind; can’t you see our tracks?
“Our home is where our hearts are, there’s no need to go back”
“Tell me now why I’m not here, did you leave me far behind?”
I answered “Dear, you are still here, both in my heart and mind”
I never want to be the one who’ll follow you,
I’ll take your hand and guide you through life’s trials.
The distance that we’ve travelled makes for quite a view,
A glance behind will show how many miles.
I promise that I’ll the be the one who supports you,
To lift you when you fall onto the ground.
The path ahead is long and yet we’ll travel through
To show to all the truest love is found
My feet splash the pavement, snow has now long gone,
I gaze ahead and see you waving toward me,
Questions fading from my head, as sun shines through the cloud
I whisper that I love you, and never will look round.
