A Love That Can Never Be

A love that can never be...

I love you with everything,

Heart, body and soul.

I try to quench the feelings inside me,

But it's hopeless, my love for you bursts forth.

Like rushing water through a dam.

I know we can never be,

We would be wrong together.

But I want so much to try.

Everyone would hate it, but as time goes on,

I begin to no longer care what others would think.

We laugh and joke,

But the longing is shared between us.

I see it in your eyes, you see it in mine.

We both want it so desperately, more than life itself.

The ache that gnaws at my heart, grows with each day.

When we are alone, under the moon and the stars,

We whisper about how things could be.

I feel the ache lift, I see light glow in your eyes.

I let myself dream of the possibilities,

Before the sun rises, illuminating reality.
