River of Life

Poetry By: JJs Pen House

A poem about someone, anyone walking along the shore of life, contemplating the many lives that came before them and the ones who will make their mark after they die. We only live once. Make your mark!

I walked along
a river flowing
tangled thoughts
without ever knowing
the many lives
who'd come before
who walked along
this stony shore
reminescent memories
heartaches and strife
as timeless raindrops
settle on these stones of life
and buried deep
beneath the restless stream
voices past
is this a dream
I hear the echo
canyon voices
I hang my head low
I've made my choices
life hasn't yielded
the plans I've made
I voice regret
memories fade
I cast my troubles
to this river flowing
endless voices
are forever going
to leave their tares
along the shore
underneath the waves
they'll ask for more
wanting second chances
unrequited pardon
from missed romances
in natures garden
life doesn't always
yield to our desire
we seek... we find
leave the rest behind
look back with regret
never forget
along this river
I walk alone..
