It took me so long to really look at you
As the nice guys sailed by and left you
As the kind ones overtook you
As I myself grew wings
And took off, all the while
standing right next to you
watching you grow clumsy and small
your cleverness brittling down to a pall
your eyes darting about in deception
unable to get on that horse named Truth
and ride it for all you were worth
Nothing to overanalyze, over-strategize, complicate, replicate, disseminate
Nothing to find, nothing to uncover, recover, destroy,
Nothing for you here
Live you a lifetime and you will never live
Never kiss like you had to give
Never touch like you had to relieve
Never just be there because you couldn't be anywhere else
Never love and not see the cracks and nicks
Never have to leave and yet always be here
the race is not for the swift, you know
but for those who take time
slow down, brick by brick, line by line
they build, they make, they create, they think ahead, contemplate
they dance in the rain, and kiss the dog goodbye, they hold your hand
they stay in when you don't want to go out, they call and listen to the sound of you being
they promise and they stay to see it come out right
Winning does not matter and yet that’s the key
To love, to riches, to life, to ecstasy
1st place 1st place 1st place
