Just up the Road
The wedding is about to start
I sit and fix my dress to stay just so
When I notice you smiling
As if you know
How my heart flutters with hope
That I will be lucky to meet you
That you will be alone
That you will be a single guest too
Eating canapes and sipping champagne
Edging your way over to me
As the bride tosses her bouquet
So that you can bend down to say
"I hope you have a great first name,
cause I'd like it to end with mine some day"
Maybe you will brush past me at a bar in the club
As I wait for my drink
You will stop, consider and think
That you don't have to go back to your friends
Just yet
You could keep me company
You could get the bartender's attention
You could suggest something I'd never had before
Like you
One more chance...
We're flying kites out in the Savannah
it's windy, crowded and exciting
I'm struggling to get the thing aloft
You are watching and approaching
You come up in front of me, hands outstretched
"let me help you nah,
you can buy me a sno-cone if it takes off"
I like your easy way already
Your ready smile and intelligence
You are tall and I'm protected
You are so affectionate, I lean in
Hurry up, I'm just down the road
I want to meet you this weekend
