Your Heart Says No

Thinking back to the beginning
When we were both kids
When we became fast friends
Even though it seemed so ludicrous
We were nothing alike
Much like we are today
Yet we have so much in common
That's evident with each thing you say
When I hear you say my name
My heart jumps and flutters
You make my mind wander
And my thoughts are clouded and cluttered
Though I know we can never be together
I can't help but hope
That one day you'll be over HER
By then I'll be able to elope
I see the way you look at her
She's MY best friend, too
I see the longing in your eyes
Even though you've both said you're through
I don't want to ruin these friendships
This is why my heart is torn
Between you and her
I see a love waiting to be reborn
For these reasons I must decide
To let these feelings go
Though there never was mutual feelings
It still hurts that your heart says no
