I am afraid
I am so afraid to open my eyes
To see the world through an awakened mind
To sense the sun's kiss on my skin in the morning
To feel the moon's dust in my hair at night.
I am afraid to look at myself in the mirror and see beauty
To look into a baby's eyes and see the promise of morning light
To smell a rose and drink the odour of love
T swim through water and feel the pulse of life in my veins.
But above all,
I am afraid to open my heart
For if I let you come inside to stay
How will I know you will never let me leave my way?
How will I feel when I'm drawn into a lover's knot
each time I touch your skin after a lifelong draught?
And how will I react when you love me back?
For all my life I have loved in vain.
So kiss me like the sun,
touch me like the moon,
love me like a rose,
and drown me like water...
But never look at me with a baby's eyes,
Because then I would never want to say goodbye.
