Apparent School Life

Script By: Mathew Nicolson
Romance

A lot different from my usual style - just a test to see if I can write something like this. I'm guessing no.

On the other hand, it gives me great amusement to upload in the genre 'Romance'.

And I say 'apparent' because I've never been in a situation like this - too busy writing about time machines or disappearing fences, I guess. So this could be hopelessly unrealistic.

INT. CLASSROOM

It's empty and abandoned, except two 16 year old pupils - a
boy and a girl. The girl is sitting at a desk, her shadow
glazing over piles of work. The boy stands by the door.

GIRL
You don't have to. I'm not - I
don't expect you to -

BOY
I know, I know... I'm happy for
you.

He's lying.

GIRL
...Honestly?

BOY
Yeah... You two make a great
couple.

He forces a smile. She doesn't believe him, but appreciates
the attempt.

BOY (cont'd)
Really, I'm fine with it.

GIRL
But you're not! Please, I do like
you, you're a great friend!

BOY
That's the problem.

GIRL
I don't want to lose you-

BOY
This way is best.

GIRL
Best for whom?

BOY
Well, me - of course. Though you
too - you won't have to put up with
my bitterness and desires. I can't
control it and I can't get over it
when you're around.

GIRL
Can't you try?

The boy begins moving to the door, and shakes his head.

BOY
It hurts too much.

He turns to leave.

BOY (cont'd)
Make sure he treats you well.

He gives her a last smile, half forced and half
involuntarily from looking directly into her eyes. He
leaves abruptly, stopping it becoming awkward.

Shortly afterwards, BOYFRIEND walks in.

BOYFRIEND
(grinning)
Hello.

GIRL
(grins back)
Hi!

BOYFRIEND
Who was that I passed in the hall
just now? Did he come from here?

GIRL
Oh, he's no-one.

BOYFRIEND
You ready?

Her whole body language has changed. She's positively
glowing.

GIRL
(slightly flirty)
I've been ready for ages.

She gets up and they exit the room holding hands.
