Ameilia:

What do you want?

J.J. closes the door.

Amelia (cont’d):

Is this personal, or--

J.J.:

It’s not.

Ameilia:

Oh.

J.J.:

Do you remember telling me that you saw Dylan grab Monique’s hand at the funeral?

Ameilia:

Yeah, so?

J.J.:

But you said that Monique didn’t really notice--

Ameilia:

What’s your point?

J.J.:

Dylan and Monique have disappeared.

Ameilia:

Together?

J.J.:

It looks that way. Diana said that she can’t reach Dylan and Monique is “on vacation.”

Ameilia:

So, you’re thinking--

J.J.:

One of them killed Evan--

Ameilia:

Monique.

J.J.:

Why her?

Ameilia:

I don’t know, I just. . .

J.J.:

Wish that she did it.

EXT. Large Colonial Estate-Afternoon

A police car arrives at the house. The officers get out of the car and slam the doors.

INT. Large Colonial Estate-Afternoon

The staff looks out of the large windows in the living room.

Cook:

Oh God, oh God, oh God--

Andre:

Cook, calm down.

The doorbell rings.

Andre (cont’d):

Do you want me to get the door?

Cook:

Yeah.

Andre leaves to open the door.

Andre:

Good afternoon officers. May I help you with something?

Bill:

You can start by letting us in.

Andre:

Certainly.

He moves out of the way as the two officers enter. They both walk into the living room where Cook is standing. The rest of the staff goes into the kitchen.

Bill:

Well hello Cook. This is Officer Logan.

Officer Logan:

Ma’am.

Cook:

Hello officers. May I get you something to drink?

Bill:

No thank you Cook. We’re actually looking for Mrs. Adamson. Is she here?

Cook:

Well, not exactly.

Bill:

What do you mean?

Cook:

Well, she’s not here, but she’ll be back soon--

Bill:

Well where’d she go?

Cook:

She went to go and take care of something--

Bill:

Take care of what? If these questions are too hard for you, I can just call Mrs. Adamson myself and ask her where she is--

Cook:

No. . .she’s just still distraught from Mr. Adamson’s death.

Bill:

Well, what about Mr. Adamson’s brother. . .what was his name. . .

Officer Logan:

Dylan.

Bill:

Dylan, yeah. He’s missing too isn’t he?

Officer Logan:

Yes sir.

Bill:

Now isn’t that a coincidence. . .both of them vanished, without a trace.

Cook:

That is quite a coincidence.

Bill:

Yeah. . .well, if Mrs. Adamson ever shows up, you tell her that I’d like to speak with her about her husband.

The officers begin to leave. Cook walks them to the front door.

Cook:

What about Mr. Adamson.

Bill:

Well, he was murdered.

Cook:

I know but--

Officer Logan:

We think Dylan did it. . .

Bill upsettingly looks at him. Logan looks back, ashamed.

Officer Logan (cont’d):

. . .it’s just speculation right now.

Cook opens the door for them and they leave. She then runs to the phone and dials Monique once again.

EXT. Waffle House Restaurant-Afternoon

Five cars sit in the parking lot. A woman exits her car and walks in.

INT. Waffle House Restaurant-Afternoon

Manager’s office. Monique sits in a chair, waiting for the manager. Her cell phone rings. She fumbles through her purse until she finds it. She looks at the number, then answers.

Monique:

Hello?

Cook:

Thank God--

Monique:

Cook? I told you not to call unless of an emergency--

Cook:

It is an emergency. Bill Stevenson--

Monique:

Officer, Bill Stevenson?

Cook:

Yes. He and another officer showed up today asking

some questions.

Monique:

What kind of questions?

Cook:

About Mr. Adamson. . .they think that Mr. Adam-- Dylan. . .they think that Dylan killed Mr. Adamson.

Monique:

(in shock)

What?

The manager walks in.

Manager:

Ok. . .

He sees her on the phone and sits down at his desk.

Manager (cont’d):

. . .am I interrupting something?

Monique:

No.

(to Cook)

I have to go.

She quickly hangs up the phone.

Monique (cont’d):

I know that I haven’t done this in a long time, but--

Manager:

You’re hired.

Monique:

Excuse me?

Manager:

Listen, I’m losing girls left and right. I need all the help I can get. . .do you want the job?

Monique:

Yes! Yes! Thank you.

She stands up to shake his hand.

Manager:

You’ll start tomorrow.

Monique:

Ok.

She leaves his office and shuts the door. She’s smiling, but it quickly fades.

Monique (cont’d):

Not ok. Damn.

She leaves.

INT. Adamson & James: Attorney’s at Law-Night

J.J. and Ameilia are in his office. She sits on top of his desk, while he is in between her legs. Her skirt is lifted up and her underwear is dangling from her left foot. J.J.’s pants are down around his ankles. They are kissing, until J.J. pulls away.

Ameilia:

What’s wrong?

J.J.:

This is.

He pulls up his pants.

Ameilia:

You weren’t complaining the first time we did it.

J.J.:

The first time we didn’t it, I wasn’t thinking clearly.

Ameilia:

Well, what’s your excuse now? First it was because you couldn’t handle Evan’s death, now it’s

. . .what?

Ameilia gets off of his desk. She pulls up her underwear and pulls down her skirt.

J.J.:

Look, it’s just this whole Evan thing. . .

Ameilia:

I miss him too--

J.J.:

Really? You miss him so much that you’re here after hours having sex with me.

Ameilia:

Oh look at you, Mr. king of all hypocrisy--

J.J.:

This can’t happen again--

Ameilia:

That’s what you said the first time and look where we are now.

J.J.:

I’m sorry--

Ameilia:

Save it.

(pause)

J.J.:

Look, with all this stuff coming up about Dylan and Monique. . .it’s just really getting to me.

Ameilia:

I don’t know why the police can’t just find them and put Monique away for murder--

J.J.:

You don’t know she did it--

Ameilia:

Yeah, and you don’t know that she didn’t.

(pause)

Look, I’m going home. . .you coming?

J.J. shakes his head no. Ameilia leaves and J.J. looks out of the window.

INT. Royal Hotel-Night

Monique is sitting on the bed watching T.V. when Dylan walks in. She runs up and hugs him.

Dylan:

Hey, what’s wrong?

Monique:

Where’ve you been? I got worried.

Dylan:

Why?

They let go of one another.

Monique:

Cook called.

Dylan:

Again? What’d she want?

Monique:

She said that the cops came by the house asking for me. . .what do you mean, again? Did she call you too?

Dylan:

No. . .what’d she say?

Monique:

The police think that you killed Evan--if she didn’t call you, then why did you say that she called again?

Dylan:

She called you earlier.

Monique:

When?

Dylan:

When you were in the shower.

(slight pause)

Monique:

You said it was a wrong number.

Dylan:

I know. . .I lied.

Monique:

Why?

Dylan:

I’m sorry.

Monique:

At least you apologized, your brother was allergic to it.

Dylan:

Monique--

He moves closer to her, but she backs away from him.

Dylan (cont’d)

What. . .you’re afraid of me now?

Monique:

I never thought that you would ever lie to me--

Dylan:

Look. . .

Dylan moves closer to her, but she backs away more.

Dylan (cont’d):

I knew that it would probably upset you, but I didn’t want you to hear any bad news today.

Monique:

You’re a fugitive as of right now Dylan! You didn’t think that was important news? Apparently the police have evidence against you. Cook said that if we didn’t come back, they would put an immediate warrant out for your arrest.

Dylan tries to move closer to her, but Monique again backs away.

Dylan:

I can’t believe that you’d think that could ever hurt you. Damn it Monique! I’m in love with you! I’m here with you! I’m doing this to protect you!

(pause)

Dylan (cont’d):

You know what. . .

He begins to leave.

Monique:

Where are you going?

Dylan:

Do you really care?

He leaves and Monique sits down on the bed.

INT. Diana’s House-Day

Diana comes out of her kitchen with 3 cups of tea on a tray. She sets the tray down on the table in the living room and proceeds to hand cups to the officers sitting across from her.

Diana:

Here you go Bill. . .Officer Logan.

Bill:

Thank you Mrs. Adamson.

Officer Logan:

Thank you Ma’am.

Diana:

Sill no word on where they are?

Bill:

No, but we have our men working on it.

Diana takes a sip of her tea.

Diana:

Do you really believe that Dylan could’ve killed Evan?

Bill:

Well, all the evidence points to him. . .unless you have any other ideas?

(pause)

Diana:

May I ask you something, and you’ll tell me honestly Bill?

Bill:

Yes Ma’am, I’ll sure try.

Diana:

Did you ever go to my son’s house. . .Evan’s house?

Bill:

I did go to their home frequently.

Diana:

Did they invite you for dinner or something?

Bill:

No Ma’am.

Diana:

Then why were you frequently at their house?

Bill and Officer Logan look at one another.

Diana (cont’d):

Bill. . .you promised to tell me the truth now. No matter what it is, I want to hear it.

(pause)

Bill:

I was frequently called to their house by the staff.

Diana:

For what reason?

(pause)

Diana (cont’d):

Bill--

Bill:

Mr. Adamson frequently hit Mrs. Adamson.

Diana:

Oh my God. . .

Bill:

I’m sorry Ma’am--

Diana:

How often did you go to their house?

Bill:

Almost on a daily basis. Neighbors would call sometimes, but it was mostly the staff.

(pause)

Diana:

If Dylan did kill Evan. . .what would happen to him?

Bill:

Well that would be up to a judge and jury. But, off the record and in my opinion. . .he was just protecting his sister-in-law.

Diana:

What if Monique did it?

Bill:

Killed Mr. Adamson?

Diana:

Yes. What would happen to her. . .off the record and in your opinion.

Bill:

I wouldn’t let her serve any time. . .she would’ve been defending herself. . .in my opinion.

He takes a sip of tea.

INT. Royal Hotel-Day

Monique is sleeping in bed when Dylan walks in. He quietly closes the door, then walks over to the bed. He sits down and looks at Monique for a moment, then rubs her leg to wake her up. She turns over and looks at him.

Monique:

Hey.

Dylan:

Hey.

Monique:

You ok?

Dylan:

Yeah.

Monique sits up.

Monique:

I thought you left me.

Dylan:

I’d never leave you Monique. . .not for too long anyway.

Monique:

Where’d you go?

Dylan:

For a walk. . I needed to think about some things.

(pause)

Monique:

I’m sorry.

Dylan:

For what?

Monique:

For this. . .Evan, everything. It’s my fault that

he’s dead, it’s my fault that we’re on the run--

Dylan:

It’s not your fault Monique. . .I told you, it’s Evan’s fault.

Slight pause. Monique smiles at him.

Monique:

You’re so good to me.

Dylan:

Well I. . .

Monique:

No, I mean it. Anybody that has you in their life should be considered lucky. And I’m the luckiest of them all cause you love me.

Dylan:

Yeah, I do.

(pause)

Monique:

You know, the last time I told somebody I loved them, they hurt me.

Dylan:

I’d never hurt you--

Monique:

I know. . .and. . .I love you for that.

Dylan:

What?

Monique:

You heard me.

Dylan lays her back down on the bed and lies on top of her.

Dylan:

Yeah. . .but I just want to hear you say it again.

Monique laughs.

Monique:

I love you.

Dylan:

I love you too.

They kiss.

EXT. Large Colonial Estate-Day

Painters are working on the outside of the house, painting everything grey.

INT. Large Colonial Estate-Day

Painters are working on the inside of the house, painting the city of Paris. Cook comes out of the kitchen to observe in the living room.

Cook:

Would anyone like anything to drink?

Painter:

No thank you Ma’am.

Cook:

How long do you think it will take to paint the whole house?

Painter:

Well, it shouldn’t take us too long. I mean, this is a really big house, but with the amount of men that we have working on it, we should be done pretty quickly.

The doorbell rings. Andre comes out of the kitchen.

Andre:

I’ll get the door--

Cook:

It’s ok Andre, I’ll get it.

She walks over to the door and answers it.

Cook (cont’d):

Mrs. Adamson. . .Mr. James--

J.J. and Diana walk into the house and Cook shuts the door.

Diana:

What’s going on in here and outside?

Cook:

They’re painting the house.

Diana:

Yes I can see that Cook, but why?

Cook:

I was told--

Diana:

By whom?

Cook:

Dylan.

J.J.:

Lets not worry about that now. Look, the reason we’re here Cook is because there’s a warrant out for Dylan’s arrest. Now I’ve tried calling him, but I can’t get an answer.

(slight pause)

I’ve been calling here too--

Cook:

Well, with all of the work going on, it’s been pretty busy around here.

J.J.:

I understand that, but I need to know if you’ve heard from Dylan and Monique.

Cook:

Not today--

J.J.:

What does that mean? Look, we’re trying to help them Cook--

Cook:

Really?

J.J.:

Yes really.

Cook:

I’m sorry. I’m worried about them too. I talked to Dylan the other day when he asked me to hire people to paint the house. He didn’t tell me anything about where they were.

(pause)

Diana:

If you talk to them again, just tell them that I’m worried about them both. I just want to know if they’re ok.

Cook:

From what Dylan said, they’re both fine.

Diana:

They need to come home. Tell them. . .they need to come home.

Cook:

I will if I talk to them again.

J.J.:

Come on, lets go.

J.J. and Diana begin to leave, as Cook shows them to the door.

Diana:

Why did Dylan choose to paint the city of Paris inside of the house?

Cook:

Mrs. Adamson said that she’s always wanted to visit.

Diana and J.J. both leave and Cook shuts the door.

INT. Royal Hotel-Day

Monique and Dylan are in bed, lying on top of the covers in each other’s arms.

Monique:

So. . .what do we do now?

Dylan:

Well, we can cross the fact that you told me you love me off the list.

Monique:

Check.

Dylan:

Well. . .I don’t know what else to do.

Monique:

That’s a pretty short list.

Monique’s cell phone rings.

Monique (cont’d):

Ooh. . .we were definitely not saved by the bell.

Dylan:

You want me to get that.

Monique hesitates.

Monique:

Yeah.

Dylan gets up. The phone is in Monique’s purse, which is sitting in a chair. Dylan looks through it and pulls the phone out. He looks at it.

Dylan:

It’s probably Cook.

(slight pause)

Monique:

Answer it.

Dylan:

Hello?. . .Ok. . .Ok, alright. . .Thanks Cook

. . .Bye.

He hangs up the phone and puts it back into her purse.

Monique:

What’d she say?

Dylan:

There’s a warrant out for my arrest.

(slight pause)

We should probably head back. . .some vacation huh?

Monique:

Yeah. . .I got a job yesterday.

Dylan:

Why didn’t you tell me?

Monique:

Other stuff got in the way--

Dylan:

Like my lying.

Monique:

No.

(pause)

Dylan:

So. . .what should we do?

Monique:

Go back.

(slight pause)

But before we leave. . .there’s something that I want to do first.

INT. Adamson & James: Attorney’s at Law-Day

J.J. in his office, looks out of the window. Ameilia knocks and J.J. looks at her.

Ameilia:

Hey. . .can I come in?

J.J.:

If you have to.

He returns looking out of the window. Slight pause.

Ameilia:

So. . .what did you find out?

J.J.:

We still don’t know where they are or when they’re coming back. . .if they come back.

Ameilia:

Well, Dylan’s a fugitive now, he has to come back soon.

J.J.:

Not if he doesn’t want too. . .

Ameilia:

You mean, not If Monique doesn’t want him too.

J.J.:

You know, your jealousy of her is really beginning to wear thin.

Ameilia:

J.J., I’m just trying to help you understand--

J.J.:

Well leave. . .that’ll help.

Ameilia:

J.J.--

J.J.:

Just. . .leave.

Ameilia looks at him for a moment, then leaves.

They kiss.

INT. Royal Hotel-Day

Montage: “When You…” continues to play. Dylan and Monique are standing in front of each other. Dylan’s shirt is already off. He begins to slowly unbutton Monique’s shirt. They both smile at each other. After he unbuttons her shirt, he takes it off of her slowly and lets it drop to the floor. He slowly kisses her mouth, then her neck, then her heart. He bends down to kiss her stomach. He then stands up, looks at her and smiles. She smiles back at him. He then picks her up and takes her over to the bed.

INT. Dylan’s Car-Day

Montage: “When You…” continues to play. Dylan turns to smile at Monique, who smiles at him.

INT. Royal Hotel-Day

Montage: “When You” continues to play. Dylan is lying on the bed, while Monique is on top of him. She kisses him, beginning with his stomach, then his chest, then his heart. He smiles. She then kisses his neck, both of his cheeks and then his mouth. He then rolls her over and looks into her eyes.

Dylan:

I love you so much.

Monique brushes her hair.

Monique:

I know. . .now I want you to show me how much.

Dissolve to:

Monique and Dylan together, making love. They are kissing each other. One of Monique’s legs is out from underneath the sheets and Dylan is on top of her. He begins kissing her neck, almost making a circle doing so. He is smiling all the way and so is Monique. He then returns to kiss her mouth.

Dissolve to: EXT. Police Station-Night

Monique and Dylan have just arrived outside of the police station. Dylan turns off the car. Music fades. They sit for a moment, quietly. Monique then turns to look at Dylan.

Monique:

I’m not going to leave you here by yourself.

Dylan:

Monique--

Monique:

Look, I know the Chief of Police, Bill Stevenson. He knew what went on between me and Evan. I can just tell him the truth--

Dylan:

No. You’re not going to spend time in jail for Evan. Being married to him for so long. . .you’ve already been through enough.

Monique:

Dylan. . .

Dylan brushes her hair.

Dylan:

No. . .just go home and wait for me to call you.

He leans in to kiss her, smiles, caresses her face, then gets out of the car. Monique begins to cry. After Dylan walks up the steps and into the police station, Monique dries her tears and gets on the drivers side. She looks back at the police station and whispers.

Monique:

I’m sorry.

She then turns on the car and speeds off.

INT. Diana’s House-Night

Bedroom. Diana is lying in bed, asleep, when the phone rings. She turns on the light next to her and answers the phone.

Diana:

Hello?. . .He is?. . .Well when did he--. . .Well, where’s Monique?. . .Not there?. . .Ok. . .Ok, I’ll be right there. . .thank you Bill. . .Bye- bye.

She hangs up the phone and gets out of bed.

INT. Adamson & James: Attorney’s at Law-Night

J.J.’s office. His door is opened just a little. J.J. is in his chair, while Ameilia is on top of him. They are kissing. She then tries to unbutton his pants. Monique walks in and quietly opens the door all the way. After looking at Ameilia and J.J. for a moment in disgust, she knocks on the door. They both turn to look at her.

Monique:

Am I interrupting something?

J.J:

No. . .

He pushes Ameilia off of him and begins to button his shirt.

Monique:

You really make the rounds don’t you?

Ameilia:

I could say the same thing about you.

J.J.:

Ameilia leave, now--

Ameilia:

Why? Because she’s here?

J.J.:

Ameilia. . .

Ameilia:

Fine.

She begins to leave, but stops at the door.

Ameilia (cont’d):

I’d say welcome back, but it’s not much of a welcome that you’re back.

Monique:

Why don’t you take a bath Ameilia. You reek. . .of skank.

Ameilia leaves and Monique shuts the door.

Monique (cont’d):

Unbelievable.

J.J.:

Monique--

Monique:

This is something I expected from Evan, but not you. . .an affair J.J.? What about Shelly?

J.J.:

This doesn’t affect her.

(pause)

Monique:

You really are becoming Evan aren’t you. What’s next? Are you going to start hitting Shelly too?

J.J.:

I’d never do that. . .you know me better than that Monique.

(pause)

When did you get back anyway?

Monique:

Tonight. Look, the reason I’m here is because I need legal advice--

J.J.:

For Dylan? Forget it.

Monique:

It’s not for Dylan. He’s at the police station right now telling the police that he killed Evan

. . .even though he didn’t.

J.J.:

What are you saying?

Monique:

Do I need to spell it out?

(slight pause)

J.J.:

I guess not. Look, Monique you know the system, you were married to Evan--

Monique:

Please stop reminding me of that.

(slight pause)

Look, what happened was self defense. I need to know. . .can you help me?

J.J.:

You know I will. . .so it’s true about Evan.

Monique:

Yeah. . .I’m sorry.

J.J.:

No, I’m sorry. I should’ve done something. I should’ve known.

Monique:

J.J., if you keep playing those shoulda, coulda, woulda’s in your head, you’ll never move past it

. . .take it from me.

(pause)

J.J.:

Well. . .if I’m going to represent you--

Monique:

J.J., I have to tell the police that I did it.

J.J.:

Are you sure that’s what you want to do?

Monique:

It’s what I have to do. . .it’s the right thing.

J.J. looks at her for a minute, surprised.

Monique (cont’d):

What?

J.J.

You love him, don’t you?

Monique:

With everything I’ve got in me.

J.J.:

Ok. . .I need you to tell me exactly what happened, don’t leave anything out.

(slight pause)

When was Evan murdered?

Monique:

The night of Dylan’s birthday party.

INT. Police Station-Night

Interrogation room. Dylan and Diana are sitting across from each other at a table.

Diana:

You’re actually going to sit across from me and tell me that you killed your own brother.

Dylan:

Yes.

Diana:

I don’t believe you. You have never lied to me

. . .are you protecting Monique?

Dylan:

No--

Diana:

Because if you are. . .she may get less time for self defense.

Dylan:

You want her to serve jail time?

Diana:

Of course not--

Dylan:

Good. Because being married to Evan was a prison in and of itself.

Diana:

Look, Dylan. . .I lost a son and I’m not ready to lose another one. Now, Evan was definitely not a saint. From what I’ve heard, he was a disappointment to me, your father and most of all Monique. But Dylan. . .

Diana switches her eyes to the window of the interrogation room door. She sees Monique. Dylan then turns around and sees her as well.

Dylan:

What is she doing?

Diana:

Looks like the right thing.

INT. Police Station-Night

Interrogation room. Monique is standing, while Bill and his partner are sitting down. A tape recorder is running.

Bill:

We’ve got Dylan in the other room talking to his mother.

Monique:

Diana’s here?

Bill:

Would you like to see her?

Monique:

I’ve been through enough, thanks.

Officer Logan:

Would you like some water or anything, Ma’am?

Monique:

No thank you.

Bill:

Monique, why are you doing this?

Monique:

Because it’s the right thing to do. If I let Dylan go to prison for something he didn’t do. . .I can’t do that and I won’t.

Bill:

We have evidence against him--

Monique:

Yeah, a shoe print where Evan was buried, I know.

(pause)

Let me ask you something. When Dylan confessed

. . .did he tell you that he hit Evan with a baseball bat?

(pause)

Monique (cont’d):

Come on Bill.

He turns off the tape recorder.

Bill:

Yes he did.

Monique:

Evan wasn’t beaten up with a baseball bat. . .I beat him with one of his golf clubs. I told Dylan that I hit him with a baseball bat, because. . .I knew if it ever came to this. . .he’d try to protect me.

Bill:

So you figured if you gave him the wrong information--

Monique:

Then there was no way that he could be found guilty of murder.

Bill:

Where’s the golf club Monique?

Monique:

With the other ones, in a bag, in the closet of the master bedroom at my house. Call Cook. She can go find the bag. . .the one that I hit him with is in the very back of it. . .there’s a dent in the head of the club. A pretty large dent.

Bill:

(to Logan)

Go out there and call the Adamson residence. Ask Cook about the golf clubs.

Officer Logan:

Yes sir.

He leaves the room and Monique sits down.

Monique:

You know I’m right.

(slight pause)

I just got to a point where I couldn’t take it anymore.

INT. Police Station-Night

Interrogation room. Dylan and his mother are both standing up. Officer Logan eventually comes into the room.

Officer Logan:

You’re free to go.

Dylan:

What? Why, what happened?

Officer Logan:

Mrs. Adamson confessed to the murder. She told us the weapon she used to kill Mr. Adamson and where to find it.

Dylan:

I already told you that. It was a baseball bat and Dylan (cont’d):

I know that because I did it.

Officer Logan:

Look, I shouldn’t be saying anything but. . .she told us that she lied to protect you. She beat him with a golf club, not a baseball bat.

Officer Logan leaves the room. Dylan stands looking shocked and Diana hugs him. He doesn’t respond.

INT. Police Station-Night

Interrogation room. Monique sit across from each other, when Officer Logan re-enters.

Monique:

Evan was upset about Dylan’s birthday party. His mother asked me to have it at our house, because hers was being renovated. I knew that Evan would hate the idea of anything positive happening for his brother, but he agreed anyway to please his mother.

(slight pause)

Then the phone rang.

Bill:

Who was it?

(slight pause)

INT. Large Colonial Estate-Night

Flashback: Monique and Evan are in the bedroom.

Monique (cont’d V.O.)

It was his mistress. . .Ameilia. I asked him to tell her not to call our house anymore, because it made me sick.

INT. Police Station-Night

Monique talking to the officers.

Monique (cont’d):

You know what he did?

INT. Large Colonial Estate-Night

Flashback: Monique and Evan’s bedroom.

Monique (cont‘d V.O.):

He grabbed me by the neck. . .he was choking me. And then he threw me up against the wall, still holding my neck. He said “I can do whatever I want to do, it’s my house! If I want to have a beautiful woman call me every now and then, that’s my choice.” I told him he was hurting me. I tried to fight him, but it wasn’t working. So I kneed him in the growing.

INT. Police Station-Night

Interrogation room.

Bill:

What happened next?

(pause)

INT. Large Colonial Estate-Night

Flashback: Monique and Evan’s room.

Monique (V.O.):

I tried to run out of the room, but he grabbed me by my hair and brought me back in. He started yelling at me. . .I mean he was yelling so

hard. . .

(pause)

After he let me go, I got up and I went to the closet. He asked me what I was doing. I told him that I was getting dressed.

INT. Police Station-Night

Interrogation room.

Bill:

Then what?

Monique:

He came up behind me. . .

INT. Large Colonial Estate-Night

Flashback: Monique and Evan’s bedroom.

Monique (cont’d V.O.):

He rubbed my neck with his hand. . .and then he grabbed it and started choking me again. It was like he was possessed or something.

(slight pause)

One of the golf clubs was sticking out of the bag in the closet. . .so I grabbed it, and I hit him in the face with the handle. After he let me go, I just turned around. . .and I just beat him until I couldn’t anymore.

(slight pause)

After. . .I just sat there and looked at him.

INT. Police Station-Night

Interrogation room.

Monique (cont’d):

Nobody downstairs could hear, cause they were too busy in the kitchen. Eventually, Dylan came to the house, and to my room. I slid the golf club underneath the bed. When he came in and asked what happened, I told him.

Bill:

And that’s when you said that you hit him with a baseball bat.

Monique:

Yeah. Dylan lied to protect me and I’m telling the truth to protect him. He suggested we move the body. I showered, changed my robe. . .and put on another white one.

INT. Police Station-Night

Dylan and Diana are waiting in the lobby. Diana sits drinking a cup of coffee, while Dylan walks back and forth. Monique eventually comes out and sees them. They don’t pay attention, until she speaks.

Monique:

What are you two still doing here?

Dylan runs up to hug her, and picks her up a little. Diana puts down her cup of coffee.

Dylan:

Oh my God, I was so worried.

Monique:

Well you don’t have to be anymore.

Dylan lets her go and looks at her.

Dylan:

Why did you do this?

Monique:

Cause. . .I’m in love with you and I had to. It was only right.

Dylan:

So what happens now?

Bill comes out and sees them.

Bill:

What happens now. . .

(pause)

. . .is that you both go home.

Dylan:

What?

Monique:

They’re letting me go.

Diana:

Why?

Monique and Bill look at one another. Then Bill walks away.

Monique:

Look, we can talk about it later.

(to Dylan)

Just take me home.

They begin to walk out of the station, but Diana stops them.

Diana:

Monique. . .

Monique:

I know. . .they told me that they told you about them coming to the house all the time.

Diana begins to cry.

Diana:

I’m so sorry that I didn’t believe you--

Monique:

It’s ok--

Diana:

No it’s not. . .

Monique:

Yes it is. I know you loved him and so did I

. . .but he was messed up. Nobody could change that.

Diana:

I just want you to know that I still love you as my daughter in law.

Monique:

(softly)

Thank you.

They hug each other. Diana then kisses Dylan on the cheek. Dylan and Monique then leave the station as Diana watches them.

EXT. Large Colonial Estate-Night

Dylan and Monique have just arrived at her house in his car.

She looks at the house, confused.

Monique:

Why is everything painted grey?

Dylan:

Weird huh?

She looks at him confused.

Dylan (cont’d):

So why did they let you go?

(slight pause)

Monique:

They felt responsible, partially. . .about not doing anything to stop Evan from constantly hurting me. They said that they’d just rule his death an unsolved murder.

Dylan:

Well, whatever the reason, I’m glad you’re home.

Monique:

Me too. . .even if it is here, where everything’s as pure as snow.

Dylan:

Why don’t you go on inside while I get our bags.

She gets out of the car and closes the door. She walks into the house.

INT. Large Colonial Estate-Night

Monique enters the house.

Monique:

Hello?

Cook runs out of her room downstairs and hugs her.

Cook:

Oh, Mrs. Adamson. . .

Monique:

Hi Cook.

They let go of one another.

Cook:

I was worried about you.

Monique:

I know.

Cook:

Where’s Dylan?

Monique:

At the car getting our suitcases.

(pause)

Cook:

It’s over?

Monique:

It’s over.

They smile at each other. Monique looks around the house.

Monique (cont’d):

What happened to the house?

Dylan walks into the house.

Dylan:

It was supposed to be a surprise.

Monique turns around.

Cook:

Good to have you back Dylan.

Dylan:

Thank you Cook.

Cook goes back into her bedroom.

Monique:

Did you do all this?

Dylan:

Guilty as charged. Go in the living room and see if you like it.

She walks into the living room. On one of the walls is a painted mural of the Eiffel Towel surrounded by a dark blue sky and many stars.

Monique:

Oh my God. . .this is beautiful.

Dylan walks up behind her.

Dylan:

You like it?

Monique:

Do I like it? I love it.

She turns around to look at him.

Dylan:

What?

Monique:

Nothing, you’re just. . .pretty damn great is all.

Monique (cont’d):

(slight pause)

You paint the whole house.

Dylan:

Yeah. . .all the white’s gone.

Monique:

Thank you, Dylan. I’d tour the whole house, but I’m kind of tired. You want to take me to my room?

He smiles at her, then picks her up and takes her upstairs. The door is already open and he takes her in. All of the walls are painted bright blue. The bed is covered with silk blue sheets. He puts her down.

Monique (cont‘d):

You painted the walls blue and got me blue silk sheets.

He circles in front of her and looks into her eyes.

Dylan:

I did. I know your favorite color’s blue.

Monique:

How’d you find time to do all of this?

Dylan:

That night I took a walk, I called Cook and

well. . .

(slight pause)

Monique:

Stay with me tonight.

Dylan:

I planned on it.

He kisses her.

Dissolve to:

Dylan and Monique making love under the sheets. “No One” (Alicia Keys) plays in the background. She is on top of him and they are kissing. He then gets on top of her and begins kissing her neck, softly and slowly. He then moves back to her mouth. She runs her hands up and down his back, while he runs his hands up and down the sides of her body.

Monique:

I’ll love you forever.

Dylan:

I’ll hold you to that.

They continue kissing.

Dissolve to: INT. Large Colonial Estate-Afternoon

Music fades. Monique is lying in bed asleep. She rolls over to Dylan’s side, then wakes up when she realizes that he’s not there. There is a note attached to the pillow. She opens it and reads it.

It reads: OPEN THE CLOSET.

She gets out of bed and puts on Dylan’s shirt. She goes to the closet and opens it. A light blue dress is hanging amidst all of the white dresses in her closet. She picks up the dress and sees a note attached to the front. She lies the dress on the bed, and reads the note.

It reads: WEAR ME, THEN COME DOWNSTAIRS.

INT. Large Colonial Estate-Afternoon

Dylan, Diana, and the rest of the staff are downstairs waiting for Monique. Dylan is at the end of the steps, looking at her door. When Monique comes out, a string quartet is playing “More Than Anyone” (Gavin Degraw) in the living room. Monique finally comes downstairs.

Dylan:

You look beautiful. Did you sleep well?

(playfully)

You slept long enough.

Monique:

(laughs)

Shut up. What is all this?

He takes her hand and brings her downstairs and into the living room.

Dylan:

Our wedding. . .if you want it to be.

Monique:

(in shock)

What?

Dylan gets down on one knee and pulls a ring out of his pocket.

Dylan:

I’ve loved you for as long as I can remember. I’ve always wanted to be the man that you loved for the rest of your life. . .I always wanted to be your knight in shining armor. You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met before in my life Monique. I love you more than I love myself and I promise to love you for the rest of your life. . .and mine. Nobody could ever take your place in my heart.

(pause)

Dylan (cont’d):

What do you say?

(slight pause)

Monique:

Stand up.

Dylan stands up.

Monique:

Dylan. . .you’re my best friend. . .my confidant

. . .and the only person that I completely trust. I love you more than life itself and I hate that it took me so long to realize that. You’ll always be my knight in shining armor. . .

(smiles)

I’ll love you forever. So. . .yeah, I’ll definitely marry you.

Dylan kisses her then puts the ring on her finger.

Monique (cont’d):

When did you have time to get rings?

Dylan:

There was a benefit to you being asleep for a long time this morning. . .

They smile at each other.

Dissolve to:

The string quartet stops as “No One” (Alicia Keys) begins playing. Dylan and Monique are in the living room standing in front of the Priest. They exchange rings.

Priest:

You may now kiss your bride.

They look into each other’s eyes.

Dylan:

(mouths)

I love you.

Monique:

(mouths)

I love you too. . .always.

They kiss. Everyone stands up and claps. They all hug Dylan and Monique. Diana hugs Monique and tells her that she loves her. Monique does the same as “No One” continues to play.

Fade out. Credits.
