I Always Thought

I always thought that if you cared enough about someone and really put your best effort forth, they'd come to their senses eventually and realize it was worth a shot.

Instead of you always working hard for them, they'd work for you.

All those memories you thought about almost daily, maybe they would haunt them for a change and that person would miss you back.

Maybe if you showed how much you cared and were always there for them, they'd be so nice as to return the favor.

Not this time.

And all you can think is, "Finally, someone decent, someone on the same page," even "someone grand…" then they blow it.

So you're just sitting there in the debris with a broom in hand looking around for someone to say 'it's okay' to and that they don't need to apologize at all for the mess, but the thing is…they weren't even sorry.

They walked right over you before the bomb went off.
