I watched the clock after Colt and I had gotten done talking. The time was going slow. My stomach still hurt. I had tried to eat something, but it didn't help. The clock read 7:24 p.m.
I looked out the window at the beautiful sunset. I wondered if Colt saw the same one. Another jolt of pain struck my somach. I finally picked up the phone and dialed the doctor's office.
I scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning. I decided to go to bed early. Thomas followed me into the bedroom. I laid down in the bed. It still smelled of Colt. Thomas laid by me. I closed my eyes and of course dreamed of Colt.
I woke up in the morning feeling sick. My stomach didn't hurt today. I got ready for the doctor. I drove to Georgia Humble Doctor's Palace. The place smelled like band-aids and chemicals.
"Hi. Maya. I have an appointment with Doctor Ray."
"Maya. Yes. Doctor Ray will see you right away." The lady at the desk clicked a button that opened a door on the left side of her.
"Go up the hall and to the third floor. It's the first room on the right. Room 143." She smiled and showed her hand to the door. I went through the huge door and it closed behind me which rattled the ground. The halls were wide and were filled with the sounds of beeps and talking. Phones rang and doctors scurried. I went up the elevator which was very cramped with the mulitple other people in it. I finally got to room 143. In there sat my doctor.
"Maya! Good to see you! How's everything going?" He had gotten grayer since the last time I had seen him.
"Not so good doc. I have been having horrible pains and this morning I didn't feel to dandy either."
"Hmmm.... well let's start by taking your blood pressure. Let's also take your weight and height and a few other procedures." Doctor Ray wrote a few things on a paper attached to an old looking clipboard.
We took my weight which was 150. Then we took my blood pressure which seemed to be the same.
"Okay. So it seems you've gained a few extra pounds since the last time i've seen you." I blushed.
"Don't worry. It's normal and good that your gaining weight. Now, I need to take a few blood tests and a urine sample. Is that fine with you?" I nodded even though I dreaded the fact of my blood getting sucked out by a needle.
He did his tests after I gave him my urine sample.
"Okay. I'll be back in a few moments. Feel free to read a magazine or whatever else. Just don't play with the machines." Doctor Ray laughed. He left the room. Colt popped into my mind. Is this considered and emegency?
The walls were filled with signs that said corny doctor quotes. I shook my head and found myself looking at Time magazine. Of course the title had to be War Widows. I thre the magazine back on the table it had been sitting on.
The doctor finally came back in.
"Maya. Maya. Maya. Hmm hmm hmm. Let's ee. I have to ask you a few questions and then I will tell you what's up. Okay?" I nodded and sat down.
"Okay... here we go. When's the last time you've had sexual activity?" I was kind of shocked.
"Uhm... about a week ago."
"Okay. Umm.... when's the last time you had unprotected sex?"
"Um....like...a week ago."
"Okay then. And then what's the last thing you ate?"
"An orange." He nodded.
"Maya.. have you and Colt I believe ever discussed having a family?" What?
"No not really. We just you know talk about random stuff."
"Mmkay. Well it appears to be that you are pregnant." My heart must have stopped for five long seconds.
"Umm...well there are other options. Abortion... if that's really what you want." I shook my head.
"No never. But...Colt. He's in the military and stuff and oh my god.."
"I'm gonna give you a few minutes to yourself. Think about it." He left the room. What was there to think about? I was going through with it.
