Rain drops pound against the pavement as she walks aimlessly down the sidewalk towards the dark house. It's a cold night as the wind howls in her ears, pushing her jet black hair into her emerald, green eyes. Angrily, she pushes the strands out of her face and behind her frozen, red ears. Winter isn't her favorite time of the year. Honestly, it's the worst time of the year for her.
Finally coming up to the house, she pushes open the metal gate, not caring much to close it behind her. She walks up to the door and lets herself in. Darkness surrounds her but the silhouette of a man sitting in a chair gets her attention. The sound of a click makes its way through the air and to her ears as the small light brightens up the room a bit.
"Where have you been, Kat?" He hisses. His eyes are darkened over with anger, watching her as she takes off her white fur coat and hangs it up on the hook next to her. His name is Andrew. He is one of her best friends but acts like an overprotective father sometimes. It annoys her but she knows better to keep her mouth shut around him.
Rolling her eyes and ignoring his glare, she walks across the hardwood floor and sits on the black leather couch that sits in the middle of the small living room.
"I was out."
She sighs angrily and runs her hand through her hair, resting her elbow on the arm of the couch. Looking over at him, she grins.
"Why does it matter?"
Andrew's eyes darken as she says those words. His jaw tenses as he thinks of something to say to her but instead looks away.
"You know why it matters." He mutters, standing up now. His heavy, black boots stomp against the wooden floor as he walks away from her. She can hear the rustling from the kitchen and the sound of his boots again as he walks back, this time carrying two mugs of hot chocolate in his hands. He sits down next to her on the couch, a little too close for her comfort, but she ignores it and takes the hot chocolate out of his hand.
She can hear the anger in his voice as he speaks. "Franc is out there searching for you and you decide it is ok to go out on your own." He shakes his head as he takes a sip of the hot chocolate.
"I was hungry." Her voice is low as she watches the steam from her mug disappear into the air. Three large marshmallows sit on top of the deliciously, hot liquid, tempting her to take a sip. She refrains though, not wanting to burn her mouth.
Andrew scoffs and sets the mug on the coffee table in front of him. Turning to look at her, he rests his hand on her knee. "I don't want something to happen to you. Your hunger will have to be controlled until we figure this shit out."
Her eyes roll at his protectiveness. "I understand, but I am not going to starve myself because some mutt wants to rip my throat out." Her eyes meet his, "I'm not scared of him, Andrew."
If only those words were true, but she keeps her real emotions to herself. She made a huge mistake, one that she will regret for a lifetime, but that doesn't mean Franc should kill her? Right?
Andrew lets out a loud sigh as he slumps into the back of the couch. The stubble on his chin shows in the dim light coming from the other side of the room. He is wearing a leather jacket over a gray t-shirt that clings to his abdomen, showing off his abs. To many people, he looks ordinary, but he is anything but ordinary. Andrew is a werewolf. Yes, one that turns into a hairy, dangerous monster on the night of a full moon. To top it off, Franc is his brother.
Bet all of you are wondering why Franc wants to rip her apart to shreds? The story isn't very appealing to many, but long story short, Kat is a vampire, she killed Franc's girlfriend, and now Franc wants revenge. Not only to kill her, but to get back at Andrew for all the mistakes he has made also. It's complicated. Her life is complicated. But she has to live with it and so does Andrew. He has stuck by her side the past couple weeks. Honestly, he has been annoying her nonstop, giving rules like "you can't go out unless I go with you" or "you have to keep your hunger controlled". All that lame shit. As if she can control her hunger? Ha. Not happening. But without him, she wouldn't know what to do. He keeps her craziness together and makes sure she doesn't do something awfully stupid.
"You know he won't stop until he kills you, right?" Andrew's dark eyes meet hers.
She nods, biting her bottom lip with her perfectly white teeth. "I know." Her breath hitches in the back of her throat as it comes to her. Franc won't stop…
Setting the untouched hot chocolate on the table and kicking off her boots, she curls up next to him on the couch. Her head rests against his shoulder and she feels him tense up for a second but slowly wraps his strong arm around her, pulling her close in a comforting hold.
"I care about you, Katrina." He whispers into her hair as he rests his chin on top of her head.
Those words run through her mind as they sit there in silence. The past couple weeks have been long and painful for the both of them. They haven't been inseparable since the fight between her and Franc's girlfriend, Serena. If it wasn't for Andrew pulling her away in time, she would most likely be dead as well. A deep sigh escapes her lips as she buries her face into his chest, breathing in his cologne. Her feelings for Andrew have become stronger as the days went by, but she kept those embarrassing feelings to herself in fear of him rejecting her; Until now.
She has known him for almost 17 years and not once have her emotions gotten the best of her. Raising her head, her eyes connect with his. She can feel his breath hit her face and the smell of hot chocolate and cigarettes hit her, a smell she will never hate as it reminds her of him. Passion flashes through his dark eyes as the electricity between them increases. The pull is too magnifying for him to ignore and his lips press against hers, pulling her into a tighter embrace as his arms wrap tightly around her waist. She grips his soft, dark brown hair in her fingers, kissing him with everything she has. The kiss seems to last a lifetime but he pulls back. Breathless, she can barely speak.
"I have been wanting to do that for a long time." She breathes against his lips.
Disappointment and shock overcome her, though, as he pushes her off of him to stand up, his back facing her. Oh no…Exactly what she was afraid of.
Her bottom lip begins to quiver but she bites it, trying to keep the tears that so badly want to break free from doing so.
"I-I'm sorry." Kat mutters, standing up as well, "I didn't mean to…I…" The words she wants to say don't come out. Her cheeks heat up in embarrassment. "I'm sorry." She says again, grabbing the mug of hot chocolate that is now cold, and walking away from where he is standing.
Tears spill out over her cheeks when she makes her way into the kitchen. Angrily, she drops the mug into the sink and begins to wash it. The sound of Andrew's boots come closer but she ignores it, keeping her back facing him and her tears hidden. She doesn't want him to see her like this; so vulnerable and weak. It's not like her.
A deep, heavy sigh comes from behind her. "You took me by surprise, Katrina. I…I didn't know what to do or what to say."
His words only make her cry harder. The blurred outlines of the mug in her hand angers her even more and she drops everything she is doing to turn around to see him. She must look a mess with makeup smeared cheeks and eye liner smudged over her eyes, making her look like a pitiful raccoon.
"You don't have to say or do anything, Andrew. I was stupid to think you would feel the same way about me. Let's just forget it even happened." The words tear her heart apart as she says them.
A pained expression covers his handsome face and he steps closer to her, but stops in his tracks.
"Go ahead and tell me. Tell me how stupid I am for believing that you and I would be together. Hurt me with the truth, Andrew. Don't comfort me with a damn lie." She snaps, wiping the tears with the back of her hand.
He closes his eyes to breathe in deeply and when he reopens them, fire and passion explode from them. She gasps as he takes her face into his hands, closing the space between them and taking her by surprise. He's so close now, killing her over and over again just from his touch.
She opens her mouth to protest but the words she wants to say are interrupted when his lips crash against hers, proving to her he feels the same way. The fire and passion ignites from within them, surrounding them with love and emotion that has been kept inside for years and years.
Her fingers make their way through his hair, pulling him closer to deepen the kiss. His hands slide down her back slowly, grabbing onto her hips tightly as he presses his body against hers, pushing her back against the counter. The water is still running but she ignores it. Nothing can take this moment away from them.
Andrew pulls away, looking deep into her captivating, emerald green eyes. "I have wanted to do that for years but never found the courage to do so." He admits.
Butterflies swarm around aimlessly in her stomach as those words escape his lips. A small smile forms on her face as she pulls his head towards her, pressing her lips against his gently. He kisses back with eagerness but pulls away again. Taking a strand of her hair, he pushes it behind her ear.
"You are beautiful, Katrina." He breathes.
"You're not so bad looking yourself." She smiles up at him, running her fingers across the stubble on his chin.
"Sarcastic as always."
"You know it, mutt." She winks, causing him to chuckle.
Andrew grins and plants a chaise kiss on her lips. "Want some wine, bloodsucker?" He whispers against her lips, and she nods.
She watches in amazement as he pours the red liquid into two wine glasses. His eyes meet hers again as he walks over to where she is standing and hands her one.
Taking it into her hands, she says, "Here's to a forever of painful full moons and delicious humans." She whispers, her eyes never leaving his.
He laughs and shakes his head, "Always one to ruin a beautiful moment." He adds, taking a long swig from the glass.
Pressing the rim of the glass to her lips, she takes a sip and sighs in relief when the cold liquid glides down her throat. She grins at him and sets the glass down on the marble counter, realizing that this is the start of something beautiful and never ending. Forever, the love between them will ignite and grow stronger. Something she has wanted for a long time, and now it is here, standing right before her eyes.
