Short Story... It was his senior year in high school, and Austin was headed to celebrate the football teams win against their biggest rival and being named district champions. When he walked into the party he caught a glimpse of a beautiful girl on the other side of the room. It was love at first sight, and when he first laid eyes on Heather he knew in his heart that she was the one for him. They went to the same high school. He discovered that Heather was new in town, and being captain of the football team and one of the most popular guys in school, he offered to show her around and introduce her to people. As time went by they began spending every moment together. Eventually, Heather introduced Austin to her mother. As all moms do, her mother questioned him about his family, and Austin told her that he has been raised by his mother. He explained that his father walked out of his life when he was seven. Heather's mom also asked him about his plans after high school. He told her that he plans on going to college to get his degree and marrying her daughter. Ms. Williams said "That sounds like a good plan, just promise me that you will not break her heart." Austin promised Ms. Williams that he wouldn't, because he loved her daughter more than anything. That evening as they were walking alone down the side walk, Austin asked Heather where her father was. Not wanting to talk about it Heather quickly said, "He walked out on us last year, the only thing that matters now is that I have you in my life." As time passed Heather and Austin enrolled in the same college. During their sophomore year in college, Heather became sick and had to go to the doctor. To her surprise she finds out that she is two months pregnant. Breaking down in tears, she calls Austin and says, " We need to talk, it's very important." They meet up at a local restaurant, and she tells him that she is two months pregnant. Austin hugs her and says, "Don't worry, I'm going to always be there for you and our child. I'm going to be the father I never had and the one you lost." One week away from having the baby Heather gets a call from her father out of the blue. He told her how sorry he was for walking out of her life. After talking a while she told him she was about to have a baby. He asked that she forgive him for all the wrong he had done and asked to be there for the birth of his grand baby. She forgives him and tells him that he can come. The week went by, and Heather had a beautiful baby girl. Her father came to the hospital and sat by her on her hospital bed and began to cry when he had saw the baby. He told her how proud he was of her. He smiles and tells her how much his new grand baby looks like him. Austin leans across the bed and extends his hand to her father to introduce himself. Austin says, "It is nice to finally me you, I've heard a lot about you." Heather turns to Austin and asks him where is his mother is. Austin smiles and tells Heather that she is on her way. Everybody was happy and laughing until Austin's mother walks in to the room. Confused, she says, "Robert? What are you doing here?" Robert replies, "I'm here to see my grand baby. This is my daughter." Austin looks at his mother with a confused look on his face and asks, "Mama, do you two know each other?" Barely able to speak, his mother is fighting back the tears and says, "Yes,that is your father that walked out on you fifteen years ago.""
