“What you need to know about the past is that no matter what has happened, it has all worked together to bring you to this very moment. And this is the moment you can choose to make everything new. Right now.” (unknown)

Spent lots of time doing things I shouldn't and have written a rough draft of another piece which might make it on here at some point in the future.

"It seems to me that people have vast potential. Most people can do extraordinary things if they have the confidence or take the risks. Yet most people don't. They sit in front of the telly and treat life as if it goes on forever."
Philip Adams

It's not that some people have willpower and some don't. It's that some people are ready to change and others are not.

“Things don't go wrong and break your heart so you can become bitter and give up. They happen to break you down and build you up so you can be all that you were intended to be.”

Nice to know that I've been given another 24 hours to live my life. "A mind troubled by doubt cannot focus on the course to victory."

the answer to my last question is still not resolved, but brutal truth, true love, and time do seem to be easing it slowly...

Still standing after an awful summer full of insecurities and worry. Been writing, but just not for this web site.

Today was another awards ceremony for an internet-based writing forum. Once again, I was nominated for Story of the Year and Writer of the Year. Once again, I watched others receive kudos for their efforts. Though I didn't win anything, it was still humbling to be nominated. Back to the mill stone as they might say...

Fully back in the swing of work and liking it a lot. Grateful to have a job and also one that I enjoy doing every day. The fall is upon me here in Michigan and it's a lovely time of year.

Hard to get into the swing of work. Got lazy with all the time off and shaking the rust off is harder with each passing year. So is dealing with the politics of my co-workers...No wonder writers work alone...

Am still enjoying my layoff. Will be back to work in a week or so.

Still amazed at the television show "Mad Men". It is some fantastic storytelling! Kudos to the writers, directors, and actors.

Watched the movie, Food Inc. Now I feel thoroughly disenfranchised with the way the food gets to my table. Oh me, Oh my. What would say, the man in the sky?

Still resisting organization, but am doing better about it. I'm up to about three hours that I can be organized in a row. Then, spontanaiety sings its siren song, and I follow it. Willingly. Lovingly. Appreciatively. Until my eyes droop, heavy with the weight of slumber.

Trying to get a bit more organized with my life. Too many things I wish to do and/or new things to try, but I get delayed by my compulsion for the immediate.

On July 11, I celebrated 11 years of marriage. One wife, one career, one kid and one home. On July 15, my father celebrated 31 years of marriage with his second spouse. His marriage has survived alcoholism, 2 bankruptcies, 6 different homes (of which one burned to the ground and was rebuilt), and 4 career field changes...

3 days I've been without my beloved Mt. Dew and other soft drinks because I gave it up. I'm glad it wasn't liquor!

Bad news...I'm getting so angry at so many things that are beyond my control that I'm ready to spew forth venom unfiltered. Good news...I might actually take the time to write down all the ugly and leave it for others to cast their judgment.

Been a bit busy learning the ups and down of "the flop, the turn, and the river" as well as big blinds, small blinds, and going "all-in". However, now that I'm over 100K richer (in fake chips), I've come to realize that the thrill of winning a large pot might make my heart pound from the excitement, but the warmth it leaves behind doesn't compare to power of a well-turned phrase. I haven't given up writing, but I've been on a vacation to rejuvenate my spirits. I'm sure I'll write more in the future, but for now, I'm content with reading the words of others and commenting on them. Cheers.

My kid can legally drive on his own. Ever since then, I've had lots and lots of extra time when I wasn't being the chaffeur. Now, what to do with all that extra time....hmmmm. Methinks, I've got to stop Facebooking so much...

Well, it seems I've won my own version of the lottery. Seems the previous manager at my job messed things up so bad with the money, not only did they get released (with 1.5 years salary compensation as severance), but they'll also have to lay off 45 employees to try and balance the budget. How'd I win? I still am employed as of now. We'll know more by the end of next week. Hooray for the incompetents!

My neighbor who plays the lottery, just won over 200,000 USD. I'm having a hard time believing it. Not because I think she's a liar, but because I distrust all those lottery systems and am surprised that someone I know has actually won a bigger prize. If it is true, I sure hope they don't move away. They've been pretty good neighbors...

I finally agreed to join Facebook a couple of days ago. Talk about feeling older...My head is still swimming as I'm trying to figure all of it out. I do like the word games, however. Helps to add a few wrinkles to my brain. Hooray!

Spring has sprung. What's new on my agenda? I'm wondering what will happen to me now that both of my parents have been medically/psychologically diagnosed with depression.

Thanks to Peach, I've browsed around on YouTube and reconnected with all the hair bands of my youth today before my work. I forgot how much I liked all that crap. It was also helpful because my wife was in a foul mood following work. Dinner out and two hours of her favorite television barely improved her mood. Recalling my own mood earlier, I took a chance on an impulse I felt. I logged on, took the computer to our bedroom, and asked her to recall the names of some musicians "I forgot" while she readied herself for bed. She couldn't resist the bait. She lay down next to me. What did we view? Searches included: Pettidee, LeCrae, Immortal Technique, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Lucinda Williams, Lyle Lovett, Pink Floyd, and Rocky Horror Picture Show. It was a wonderful date. When it was finally time, I tucked her into bed over an hour past her planned bedtime, but she was in an better frame of mind because her lovely beautiful, Ukrainian smile had returned leaving her blue/grey eyes sparkling brightly. Despite my manly urges, a kiss was all I gave her because our son and his two teenaged friends are staying over. Don't think they needed to stumble upon hearing us fumble around...HA!

My son turns 16 soon. I met him when he was four. Where did all the time go? It seems like yesterday when we first met...he's a good kid. I just wish he wouldn't learn so many of my bad habits...

Tomorrow, my wife is getting her second mammogram in 3 months to make sure her "abnormality" is just structural, instead of cancer. No family history of breast cancer from what she can gather, but we're still hoping for the best.

Please do me a favor. Read Texas Bronc Rider's "Gunpowder and Lead". You can follow my fan link below to her first novel. I've been offering feedback from the very beginning, but dammit, each chapter seems to get better than the one before it. She's definitely deserving of some additional views. Please consider helping a younger author out with some support.
