I've been told I'm a pretty good writer. A sneaking hunch tells me that I'm not as good as I think I am.
I've written quite a few novels, but only one has been published, which was self-published at that. Still, it received pretty good reviews and won a couple of in-house awards, which was gratifying.
The name of my love child is Witchcanery and was originally a short short story in a contest for said short shorts. Along came Nanowrimo of 2002 and "Eye of Bat and Toe of Frog" (its original name) became a novel. Several years later, I self-published it and it became a small hit. So I put out a second edition through iUniverse and won two of their awards. Total sales to date are well under the golden 10,000 mark but still a respectable showing internationally for a small-town prairie gal.
I have edited two anthologies for publication:
My author's site also shows my two works in progress. To be honest, I am struggling with both of them, possibly dipping into the deep end of the writer's block pool. I am hoping my involvement in Booksie will help stir the pot (to unabashedly mix two metaphors) and plan to offer some of my short stories. Although I am a novelist, I write short stories for fun.
Currently, I am involved in writing a weekly column, called Puppy Dog Tales, based on my three loveable Shih Tzus.Ling Ling, Oreo Blizzard and Tilly Tot. This column is also for fun, although I put quite a bit of work into it as well. My dogs are getting a little camera shy because, quite often when they turn around, there is mommy, wielding her camera (thinking, oh this would be a good shot for the column), temporarily flashing the sight out of their eyes. It's sort of like when my now grown-up children were small. "Watch out what you say," they would tell their little friends, "or Mommy might write about you."
My wonderful American husband puts up with my wacky sense of humor, my casual approach to housekeeping, and my hard-won cooking skills, because...hmm, I can't really think why. I guess maybe he loves me after all. :)
I live with MWAH in rural southeastern Saskatchewan, with our little doggies, in a lovely, rustic, cedar-sided bungalow on a large treed lot on the south side of town. We have lived in Esterhazy for going on six years now and are still considered "newcomers." I think you have to be second generation Esterhazians before you are considered old timers. It's a rural tradition, I understand.
My husband and I each have our own quads (four-wheelers) and take long, exploring rides in the copious countryside around our home. Otherwise, for fun, I read (mostly epic fantasy), play massively multi-player online roleplaying games (MMORPGs), currently Neverwinter (an awesomely fun game), and play with my dogs. In addition to my daily struggle with housekeeping, I attempt to keep up to date with my writing--two blogs, FantasyFic and News, Reviews, and Gurus; my aforementioned weekly column, my forum, and my works in progress.
