Michael Crichton has written some great books - Jurassic Park, Sphere, The Andromeda Strain - but this isn't one of them. It's a loosely told story of a future in which genetic manipulation becomes both possible and increasingly common. But the book lacks a coherent story and I found myself getting bored. Instead, it's a series of snapshots and somewhat unrelated stories and never seem to come together.
There must be some great genetic manipulation stories out there, but this isn't one of them.
