When The Author crashes down into John Miller's life, bringing a horde of Gloff with him, nothing will be the same again. With John's help, The Author sets out on the quest to regain his memories...

This is another Doctor Who spin-off, but one I intended to actually film with a friend, though that sadly never happened.

Episodes 2, 4 and 5 are not included here because I did not write them. View table of contents...

1 KITCHEN. A HOUSE.

ROGER is getting his shoes on, ready to walk to school. In
the room is a Christmas tree.

ROGER'S MUM
You leaving already? But the bus
won't be here for another 10
minutes!

ROGER
I know, but I want to take a small
walk before I leave. I think the
lake out back might be frozen over.

ROGER'S MUM
Well, alright. But surely you
should wrap up warmer than that-

ROGER
I'll be fine, Mum! Honest.

ROGER'S MUM
Alright then Roger, but be
careful! Bye.

ROGER
Bye, I'll see you when I get home!

Roger walks out.

CUT TO:

2 EXT. HOUSE.

ROGER walks down the path, and out of the garden. He walks
around the house, then through a small hidden path.

CUT TO:

3 LAKE.

ROGER walks to the lake. He walks past a LARGE BIN that
looks very out of place...

ROGER
It's frozen after all, then.

EVELYN
As always. I don't think I have
ever seen it not to be.

Roger looks around. He thought he was alone!

ROGER
You obviously don't come here much
then, it wasn't frozen yesterday.

EVELYN
I was not here yesterday, in that
case.

Pause. She doesn't once look at him, instead she stares
into the lake.

ROGER
I don't recognise you... Have you
recently moved here?

EVELYN
No. I have lived in this village
for my entire life.

ROGER
Then how... ?

She turns to look at them, and their eyes meet.

Roger is thrown backwards into a vortex-

CUT TO:

4 LAKE. 1934.

ROGER is thrown onto the ground.

He gets up, feebly.

The lake is frozen over, and it is snowing.

He looks around.

There are more trees.

ROGER
What... just happened?

THE AUTHOR runs through some trees.

THE AUTHOR
I can't even take one holiday
without there being a temporal
disturbance in the- oh, hello!

He sees Roger.

ROGER
Who are you?

THE AUTHOR
I'm the Author... Who are you?

ROGER
I'm-

EVELYN
His name is Roger.

Both heads turn to her.

THE AUTHOR
And you too... This is worse than I
thought...

Then, everything begins fading away.

Roger falls back...

CUT TO:

5 LAKE. 2010.

ROGER is thrown onto the ground.

He looks up, confused.

CUT TO:

6 OPENING CREDITS.

CUT TO:

7 EXT. SCHOOL.

The bell is ringing in the background. ROGER walks out, and
down a road.

CUT TO:

8 STREET.

ROGER
The Author... What sort of name is
that?

CUT TO:

9 INT. HOUSE. LIVING ROOM.

ROGER is on the computer, typing 'The Author' into a search
engine.

Roger reads the results.

ROGER
No... no...

His mum walks up and reads over his shoulder.

ROGER'S MUM
An Author? You're not wanting to
become one, are you?

ROGER
No, no.

ROGER'S MUM
Good. My uncle was one. He wrote
all his life but didn't publish a
single piece of work. He then
starved to death. It's a terrible
career choice.

ROGER
Yes Mum. I'll become an
accountant, because that's so
amazing.

ROGER'S MUM
Good.

She walks off.

Roger keeps looking.

He then sees a link, called "Help me find The Author"

Roger wearily clicks it.

It says-

"Hi, I'm John Miller. Please, if you ever see this man,
email me immediately at
johnmiller@simpsonlabs.co.uk. Thanks!"

Roger clicks on the 'this man' bit.

And... it loads a picture of THE AUTHOR!

ROGER
That's him!

He reads more.

ROGER
'I once knew this man, we were once
the best of friends. Then one day,
he just left. I've seen pictures
and traces of him though history,
particularly in the village of...'

Roger turns around, thinking.

ROGER
That's my village!

He reads further.

ROGER
'However I have searched there, and
found nothing.'

Roger leaps up, and runs out of the door.

ROGER'S MUM
Roger? Roger!

CUT TO:

10 LAKE.

ROGER runs down to it, passing a LARGE BIN.

And nothing happens.

Roger walks around a bit.

Then he falls forward-

CUT TO:

11 LAKE. 1940.

And falls onto the ground.

BANG!!! BANG!!

ROGER looks up.

Planes are flying through the sky, dropping BOMBS...

Roger stares up at them, in shock.

THE AUTHOR
I wouldn't worry about them.

Roger turns around.

THE AUTHOR
As you can see, you've travelled in
time. Same place, just a different
time.

ROGER
I don't understand...

THE AUTHOR
Well this lake is still here in the
year 2010, isn't it? So therefore-

ROGER
No, I understand that. But
how? Why?

THE AUTHOR
Now, that might take a bit more
explaining. Oh, Merry Christmas by
the way!

Roger ignores him.

The ground shakes, as a bomb hits.

THE AUTHOR
Don't worry, that bomb didn't kill
anyone.

ROGER
How do you know?

THE AUTHOR
Instinct.

Pause.

ROGER
So, I've travelled back in time to
World War 2, yes?

THE AUTHOR
Exactly 70 years, yeah. Today is
the 25th December, 1940.

ROGER
But why?

THE AUTHOR
I don't know. I want to find out
too, but without the Tardis that is
pretty impossible. Listen... this
isn't the first time you've
travelled in time, is it? I
remember you back in 1934...

ROGER
Earlier today, the same thing
happened.

THE AUTHOR
Right... So, a hole in time. That
would explain it. Hey, you haven't
seen any large wooden crates around
lately, have you? I didn't get
chance to fix the chameleon
circuit, see...?

ROGER
Um, no...?

THE AUTHOR
Oh, well, never mind. So you and
The Tardis both have fallen through
a hole in time.

The ground shakes, and another bomb has hit.

THE AUTHOR
Three people died in that. A young
woman and her baby twin girls.

ROGER
Why are you telling me this?

THE AUTHOR
(defensively)
I... you... it's interesting.

Roger starts falling back.

THE AUTHOR
No, wait!

He buzzes with his sonic, but it does no good.

CUT TO:

12 LAKE. 2010.

Roger falls onto the ground.

ROGER
No!

He looks up, and sees the girl again.

EVELYN
I have faith that you'll will find
another rip in the space-time
continuum. But please hurry, I
can't last much longer. The fate
of this world, and many others,
relies on you. You cannot fail-

She fades away.

Roger stares, in shock.

FADE TO:

13 LAKE. 1940.

THE AUTHOR is running about.

THE AUTHOR
Now what? Do I have to wait
another 6 years for him to appear
again? At this rate I'll be able
to see him in his home time.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

The Author turns around.

2 hooded figures are standing among the trees, holding
knives. They are very obviously not human.

THE AUTHOR
Ah... Hello.

They walk towards him.

THE AUTHOR
Right, I... um... Don't feel overly
comfortable around sharp objects,
so if you could just...

They keep walking.

But then the Author smiles.

THE AUTHOR
Finally!

He runs. They chase after him.

CUT TO:

14 PATH.

THE AUTHOR runs.

THE AUTHOR
(very happy)
I'd forgotten how this felt! I've
been away from it too long...

FADE TO:

15 FLASHBACK. INT. TARDIS.

THE AUTHOR is running about, as usual.

THE AUTHOR
No, no, no!

The Tardis shakes about, then lands.

CUT TO:

16 EXT. TARDIS.

It is snowing.

THE AUTHOR
Aha! Earth! I wonder what period?

He looks at SOME DEVICE.

THE AUTHOR
1934! An interesting year, The
Great Depression was becoming
history, there was the rise of
Hitler...

He realises he is talking to himself.

THE AUTHOR
Talking to myself again... Hm.

He hears carol singers.

THE AUTHOR
And it's Christmas!

CRASH.

He looks back.

The Tardis is dematerialising.

THE AUTHOR
No, NO!

It has gone.

The Author scans with his SONIC DEVICE.

THE AUTHOR
It's fallen through a time
loop! Who knows when it will
reappear? Although...

He looks at the sonic.

THE AUTHOR
It's fallen into the future, so I
will at least see it again... But,
how long... ?

FADE TO:

17 NEAR LAKE, 1940.

THE AUTHOR
Those 6 years were far too long!

He looks back. The figures have gone.

THE AUTHOR
Another time loop... ? What's
causing this? Too many time loops
and things start getting dangerous!

He looks up, and sees Evelyn walking past him.

THE AUTHOR
Her... I saw her, back in 1934...
Hey, you!

She ignores him.

He runs to her, but falls through her.

Evelyn screams, and disappears.

THE AUTHOR
Like I said... dangerous! And
without the Tardis, I'm
powerless...

He gets an idea.

THE AUTHOR
Or, maybe...

PAN TO:

18 LAKE. 2010.

It is dark.

ROGER is still there.

ROGER
I can't get back. Maybe I can only
go once a day. I'll try again
tomorrow...

He walks back home, passing a LARGE BIN.

CAMERA PANS UP TO SKY.

PAN TO:

19 SPACE.

A spaceship drifts above Earth, suspended in Earth,
patiently waiting...

PAN TO:

20 ROGER'S HOUSE. MORNING.

ROGER walks down the stairs, fully dressed, with messy hair
and a tired look.

ROGER'S MUM
Oh, finally up are you? Can you
clean the dishes when you're free?

ROGER
Yes Mum.

ROGER'S MUM
I'm going for a shower...

She leaves and walks up the stairs.

Roger sits, and turns on the TV.

TV PRESENTER
(offscreen)
And now, premiering on TVLive, is
the hit show, atoms-

The bell rings.

Roger sighs, and turns the TV off. He gets up and walks to
the porch.

CUT TO:

21 PORCH.

Roger opens the door. PATTIE - a very old woman - is there.

PATTIE
Hello Roger!

ROGER
Hi Mrs-

PATTIE
Oh, call me Pattie! Anyway, to
business...

She pulls out a LETTER, addressed to Roger.

PATTIE
I have no idea what this is. This
man back in 1940 gave it to me. He
said that on this exact date he
wanted me to give this card to a
boy called Roger, who would live
somewhere in this town.

Roger looks at her, shocked.

PATTIE
I thought that was a bit strange...
But I'd got to know him - for, he'd
lived in this village for some
years before, so I kept it. And it
was right.

ROGER
What did he look like?

PATTIE
He... had dark hair... and always
wore this fancy green suit.

Roger realises it's The Author. He grabs the card from her.

PATTIE
Well, if it makes sense to you then
I haven't wasted my time, but I
know I'll never understand...

She drifts out of the door.

PATTIE
How could he have known... ?

Roger closes the door.

He opens the letter, and reads.

THE AUTHOR
(voiceover)
Hello Roger. By the time you get
this, hopefully we will have
met. Or maybe I've got my
calculations completely wrong, and
the person reading this isn't even
Roger. But anyway... I want you
to do something for me,
Roger. Buried exactly 1 meter
beneath the ground near the lake is
a container, and inside the
container is something very
precious to me...

PAN TO:

22 LAKE.

ROGER is digging.

Thump.

He takes out a container.

He opens it, and inside is THE SONIC DEVICE.

He takes it out.

THE AUTHOR
(voiceover)
I've put it into the correct
setting, so now all I need you to
do is wave it about while pressing
the button. Eventually a hole will
appear. You should be able to go
through it, since you seem gifted
at going through holes in
time. Maybe you have an underlying
psychic ability.

Roger waves it about, pressing the button. Indeed, a hole
in time appears.

Incidentally, there is a LARGE BIN behind Roger. He doesn't
notice it.

THE AUTHOR
(voiceover)
Then... step inside, to create a
permanent link. I will be waiting
there for you. Hopefully... Good
luck.

ROGER
I must be out of my mind, but...

Roger steps through.

CUT TO:

23 1880.

It is night.

ROGER appears. He looks around.

ROGER
Hello? Author? Are... are you
there?

Silence.

ROGER
Hello? Author!!

CUT TO:

24 1940.

More bombs in background. THE AUTHOR walks around.

THE AUTHOR
He should be here by now... I
didn't set it wrong, did I? I
quadruple checked it!

He turns around.

THE AUTHOR
And what about that girl... ? And
those hooded people... ? For once,
I haven't the faintest clue what's
going on. Maybe Christmas is
always like this, who knows?

He looks in his pocked for the sonic device.

THE AUTHOR
Oh, yeah, I buried it. I could dig
it up again... But then, if I do
that, Roger will never find it, and
be able to travel here. But since
he hasn't anyway...

The Author cries out in confusion.

He looks to the sky.

THE AUTHOR
This is more than just a time
loop... Something intelligent is
behind all this. But why... ?

PAN TO:

25 SPACE.

The spaceship is still suspended above Earth...

PAN TO:

26 LAKE. 1880.

Snap.

Roger looks around.

The 3 hooded people are standing there. They pull out
knives.

ROGER
Who... are you?

They walk towards him.

Roger backs away, but is against the lake.

They come closer to him...

EVELYN
Stop.

She is transparent. Roger can barely see her.

The people look at Evelyn, curious.

EVELYN
No... no... no...

She fades away, slowly...

The creatures advance towards Roger...

CUT TO:

27 SPACE.

Spaceship.

AUTOMATED VOICE
Failing, failing, failing...
Commence Procedure 7.

CUT TO:

28 LAKE. 1880.

ROGER is abducted into space. The SONIC DEVICE falls into
the lake.

PAN TO:

29 LAKE. 1940.

The air siren goes, signaling the all clear.

THE AUTHOR
Only 8 dead. More importantly...
Roger should have been here.

EVELYN
The lake... preserved... I can't...

She sighs as she loses energy, and fades away.

THE AUTHOR
Lake... preserved? Maybe... just
maybe!

He looks into the lake. He sees the SONIC.

THE AUTHOR
Yes! Roger must have been taken
too far into the past, and somehow
the screwdriver ended up
there! Now to get it out...

PAN TO:

30 INT. SPACESHIP.

ROGER appears, having been abducted.

ROGER
What? Where am I?

AUTOMATED VOICE
Be silent.

A needle flies out and injects him. He falls, unconcious.

PAN TO:

31 LAKE. 1940.

THE AUTHOR is lying by the lake, completely soaked. His
jacket is unaffected, as he'd taken it off.

THE AUTHOR
(to sonic device)
Completely preserved, as I
designed...

He shivers.

THE AUTHOR
But now I have this... which,
technically, now belongs to 2010...
I can create a link!

He buzzes with it. A doorway opens.

The Author grins and walks through it.

CUT TO:

32 LAKE. 2010.

THE AUTHOR walks through.

He spots the BIN.

THE AUTHOR
Aha! The chameleon circuit was
fixed, after all!

He walks up to it.

THE AUTHOR
Though, um...

He opens the lid, and looks inside.

THE AUTHOR
Oh...

CUT TO:

33 INT. TARDIS.

THE AUTHOR walks inside.

He reads the scanner. It says, in big writing 'Time Vortex
Critical'

THE AUTHOR
That's bad... very bad... Whatever
is tampering with time has no
concept of control. This is beyond
dangerous! The time fractures
could extend further, encompassing
the whole of Earth history. Atomic
bombs controlled by
cavemen? Teutonic Knights
wandering the plains of the 1st
Aerial British Empire?

He looks as if speaking to someone. Then sighs.

THE AUTHOR
I'll do a scan for alien
technology...

Beep beep beep.

THE AUTHOR
Aha... a spaceship...

CUT TO:

34 INT. SPACESHIP.

AUTOMATED VOICE
Detection! Alert, alert!

CUT TO:

35 INT. TARDIS.

THE AUTHOR pulls a lever.

CUT TO:

36 INT. SPACESHIP.

VOICE
Tardis materialising!

The Tardis materialises, stuck as a bin. THE AUTHOR walks
out.

THE AUTHOR
Okay, perhaps I didn't fix it. I
must have forgotten to re-route the
binary-

VOICE
Author.

The Author shuts up, and looks in front of him. It is a
gigantic computer!

THE AUTHOR
Who is behind this? Who is your
master?

VOICE
I would have thought you would be
more concerned over another matter.

THE AUTHOR
What do you mean?

VOICE
Look to your left.

The Author looks to his left. He gasps.

ROGER and EVELYN are in cells, unconscious, with electrical
currents running through them.

The Author is shocked.

THE AUTHOR
What have you done to them?

VOICE
I wish I could say they will be
alright, but that would be
lying. The girl is already close
to death. The boy has some life
left, but not for long.

THE AUTHOR
That didn't answer my
question. You haven't answered my
other question either... Who is
controlling you?

VOICE
Lighten up! It's Christmas after
all... in 1880... And 1934... And
1940... and 2010... All at once. 4
Christmas's at once. A child's
dream.

THE AUTHOR
Yes, I had noticed. But why?

VOICE
It amuses me.

The Author contemplates this.

THE AUTHOR
You're not being controlled, are
you?

VOICE
No.

THE AUTHOR
This is your own will... A computer
with a will, what a frightening
concept...

COMPUTER (VOICE)
I consider it a powerful concept.

THE AUTHOR
Same thing. But... 'fun'? Since
when have computers had a sense of
pleasure?

COMPUTER
I was programmed to have
emotions. That is not my fault.

THE AUTHOR
Who programmed you?

COMPUTER
The Time Lords!

The Author realises.

THE AUTHOR
Oh... I see. I've learnt a lot
about the Time War. The Time Lords
thought they would gain an
advantage by creating a thinking
and feeling spaceship... I'm not
sure why. It failed, and they were
all destroyed...

COMPUTER
Apart from me...

THE AUTHOR
So you got bored... The Time War
passed you by, and now you're all
alone...

COMPUTER
Earth had been particularly active
during the start of the Time War-

THE AUTHOR
Yeah. Sorry about that.

COMPUTER
-And it was programmed into my data
banks, so I decided to go there to
relieve my boredom.

THE AUTHOR
So you abducted the girl...

COMPUTER
Her name is Evelyn.

THE AUTHOR
Right... and you, what? Spread her
across time?

COMPUTER
Correct. It amuses me. I shall do
the same to the boy, and then to
you!

THE AUTHOR
Right, well I disagree. Sorry. I
can't blame you, because it's not
your fault... but let me help you.

COMPUTER
I do not need help!

THE AUTHOR
You don't understand what you're
doing! You're playing with time
like it's a toy!

COMPUTER
It is a toy for me, Author.

THE AUTHOR
Tell me, what about those creatures
I saw earlier?

COMPUTER
They were not planned. They were
accidentally dragged through the
vortex into Earth.

THE AUTHOR
See! You don't know what you're
doing! You've got to be stopped!

The Author turns to the Tardis.

But it has gone.

There is a hole in the floor.

The Author looks down it.

The Tardis falls to Earth...

THE AUTHOR
Oh. I was planning to make a
dramatic exit, after which I'd
devise a plan to stop you.

The computer laughs.

THE AUTHOR
Oh, you can even laugh? I wonder
if you can feel anger.

He buzzes with the SONIC DEVICE, and is teleported down to
earth.

The computer roars in anger.

THE COMPUTER
But you are wrong, Author. I can
control what I want...

CUT TO:

37 EARTH. 2010. A STREET.

THE AUTHOR appears.

THE AUTHOR
Right, Earth, good. 2010, also
good. The Tardis will have landed
somewhere, but I don't have time to
look for it.

Stomp. Stomp. Stomp.

The Author looks up.

Walking down the street are 20 CREATURES.

They all pull out knives.

THE AUTHOR
Oh.

They charge at him.

The Author runs.

CUT TO:

38 SPACESHIP.

COMPUTER
Kill him!!!

It laughs manically.

ROGER
Please... Stop...

COMPUTER
Oh, shut up. Give him more
tranquilisers, or
something. Nothing will stop
this... pleasure...

The ship shakes.

WARNING SYSTEM
Warning, Time Stream
critical. Time Vortex becoming
detached-

COMPUTER
I do not care! Delete temporary
files!!

CUT TO:

39 PARK.

The Author runs, but the creatures are gaining on him.

CUT TO:

40 SPACESHIP.

COMPUTER
Oh yes... it is Christmas, isn't
it? Moving Time Loop to a shop...

CUT TO:

41 PARK.

THE CREATURES stop.

THE AUTHOR looks at them, confused.

Then, SANTA HATS appear on them.

The Author is slightly disturbed.

CUT TO:

42 SPACESHIP.

THE COMPUTER laughs even more.

WARNING SYSTEM
(in background)
Warning, system failure...

CUT TO:

43 PARK.

THE CREATURES advance upon THE AUTHOR...

THE AUTHOR
That computer is deranged.

He moves back, but hits a wall.

The Creatures move to him, about to stab him...

CUT TO:

44 INT. SPACESHIP.

WARNING SYSTEM
System shut down. Duration,
permanent.

COMPUTER
What!?

WARNING SYSTEM
Removing Anti-Spyware...

CUT TO:

45 PARK.

THE CREATURES fade away...

CUT TO:

46 SPACESHIP.

COMPUTER
No!! NOOO!!! It was so fun!! It
cannot end... NOOO!!!

WARNING SYSTEM
Deleting Essential Program Files...

COMPUTER
NO!! NOOO!!!

Wooosh... vworp...

THE TARDIS materialises.

THE AUTHOR walks out.

THE AUTHOR
I told you... You didn't know what
you were messing with. You ripped
out part of the Time Vortex, and
your spaceship couldn't handle
it. Everything is snapping back to
default.

COMPUTER
Help me, Author!! HAVE MERCY!!!

THE AUTHOR
Letting you shut down is a mercy...

COMPUTER
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO......

The computer shuts down.

Silence.

The Author moves over to the CELLS.

He buzzes with THE SONIC. The cells snap open. ROGER and
EVELYN fall out.

The Author smiles.

THE AUTHOR
They're alive.

PAN TO:

47 INT. TARDIS.

THE AUTHOR is moving about slowly, taking The Tardis away...

ROGER and EVELYN lie on the ground.

CUT TO:

48 EXT. SPACESHIP.

The spaceship explodes.

CUT TO:

49 INT. TARDIS.

ROGER and EVELYN wake up.

THE AUTHOR
Oh, you're awake.

Evelyn groans.

EVELYN
I thought... I thought I would
never see out of that cell with my
own eyes again...

ROGER
Me neither...

THE AUTHOR
Well, you're safe now. And I
couldn't have done it without you
guiding and helping me.

CUT TO:

50 1880.

The Tardis materialises as a small hut.

CUT TO:

51 INT. TARDIS.

THE AUTHOR
You can go home now, Evelyn. Back
to your home period.

EVELYN
How can I go back to life after all
that?

THE AUTHOR
It's hard, I know... That's the
bravest thing of all. I know you
can do it.

Evelyn nods, and walks out.

THE AUTHOR pulls a lever.

ROGER
Will she be alright?

THE AUTHOR
Yeah... Now, let's take you home!

He pulls a lever.

CUT TO:

52 LAKE.

THE TARDIS materialises as a BIN.

CUT TO:

53 INT. TARDIS.

ROGER
Thank you, Author.

THE AUTHOR
No, thank you. Without you I'd
still be stuck in the past. 6
years is more than enough time to
be stranded.

Roger moves to the door, awkwardly.

THE AUTHOR
Oh, and Roger?

Roger turns.

THE AUTHOR
Merry Christmas.

ROGER
Merry Christmas, Author!

He turns, and exits.

Leaving The Author alone.

Again.

The Author sighs.

THE AUTHOR
I feel like visiting the Artron
Galaxy, maybe the third Southern
arm? It's about time I go there
again, I'd love to see how they're
coping without the slugs.

He pulls the lever...

CUT TO:

54 EXT. TARDIS.

It dematerialises.

Roger watches.

CUT TO:

55 END CREDITS.
