When The Author crashes down into John Miller's life, bringing a horde of Gloff with him, nothing will be the same again. With John's help, The Author sets out on the quest to regain his memories...

This is another Doctor Who spin-off, but one I intended to actually film with a friend, though that sadly never happened.

Episodes 2, 4 and 5 are not included here because I did not write them. View table of contents...

1 AN ENGLISH GARDEN.

A YOUNG MAN - 21, bossy, dominating - and WOMAN - 20, kind,
easily frightened - are out in the garden. They are
barbecuing something.

FREDRICK
Could you go and get the barbecue
sauce, dear?

DIANA
Of course.

Diana enters the house.

CUT TO:

2 INT. HOUSE. SITTING ROOM.

DIANA walks past the TV.

SHOT OF TV, AS SHE PASSES.

The TV headline reads "Warmest Summer on Record"

TV PRESENTER
The ice caps have now lost 25% of
the ice they had at the start of
the century. The oceans have risen
by 2 meters, and scientists say it
will get worse-

CUT TO:

3 KITCHEN.

SHOT OF THERMOMETER. IT READS 43 DEGREES.

DIANA opens the fridge door, and looks around.

PAN TO:

4 EXT. HOUSE - GARDEN.

SHOT FROM ABOVE. BUZZING. FREDRICK CAN BE SEEN AT THE
BARBECUE. SHOW MOVES CLOSER TO HIM, AS BUZZING
INTENSIFIES...

CUT TO:

5 KITCHEN.

DIANA has found the barbecue sauce, and closes the door.

CUT TO:

6 GARDEN.

THE SHOT FROM ABOVE PULLS IN CLOSER AND CLOSER TO
FREDRICK. BUZZ!!!

Frederick looks up.

SHOT MOVES RIGHT IN TO HIM.

Frederick screams.

CUT TO:

7 KITCHEN.

DIANA hears Fredrick screaming. She runs out to the garden.

CUT TO:

8 GARDEN.

DIANA runs out.

FREDRICK is lying on the ground. Completely white.
Completely dead.

DIANA
Fredrick! FREDRICK!

Buzzing from above her. She looks up.

A GIANT FLY flies off into the sky.

Diana screams.

CUT TO:

9 OPENING CREDITS.

PAN TO:

10 INT. TARDIS.

THE AUTHOR reluctantly flies the Tardis to Earth.

JOHN
Are we there yet?

THE AUTHOR
Almost.

Silence.

Then they both speak at the same time.

THE AUTHOR/JOHN
Are you sure-/Look, I'm-

They both stop.

THE AUTHOR/JOHN
So you-/What I mean-

THE AUTHOR
You go first.

JOHN
No, it's not important.

THE AUTHOR
It's more important than what I had
to say.

Thud.

THE AUTHOR
Well, we've landed. Earth. 21st
century. Your home. What either
of us have to say doesn't matter
now.

JOHN
What, I'm just going to... go?

THE AUTHOR
Unless you change your mind. But I
haven't all day - there are
Galaxies to explore, worlds to save
- you know the deal.

JOHN
...Yeah. What I wanted to say was
that I'll miss traveling with you.

The Author makes an attempt to hold in his sadness.

THE AUTHOR
Yeah.

JOHN
So this is... goodbye?

THE AUTHOR
If you're going, go.

JOHN
Yeah.

John walks out of the Tardis.

The Author falls backwards onto the chair, sad.

CUT TO:

11 EXT. TARDIS - AN ENGLISH STREET.

JOHN walks out. The TARDIS has taken the form of a
CAR. The windows are blackened.

John takes a few steps across the street.

JOHN
Hang on...

CUT TO:

12 INT. TARDIS.

THE AUTHOR is up, setting the controls to travel somewhere.

THE AUTHOR
Right, Author, where now?

THE AUTHOR
Hm, I don't know. How about
exactly 500 years from now?

THE AUTHOR
Sounds good to me!

He sets the Tardis to travel exactly 500 years into the
future.

CUT TO:

13 STREET.

JOHN runs back to the Tardis.

JOHN
Author! Author!

The Tardis dematerialises.

JOHN
NO! AUTHOR!!

John steps back. The CAR has gone.

JOHN
Come back!!

He runs to see if he can find a shop.

He eventually finds one.

CUT TO:

14 INT. SHOP.

JOHN runs in, uncaring of how he looks.

JOHN
Where am I?

CASHIER
What?

JOHN
Which town is this? What's the
nearest city!

The Cashier looks at him like he's crazy.

JOHN
JUST TELL ME!

CASHIER
This is the outskirts of Leeds.

John covers his head with his hands, and sighs angrily.

JOHN
And, just to make sure, what date
is this?

CASHIER
...2060.

JOHN
WHAT!?

John runs out of the shop.

CUT TO:

15 STREET.

JOHN runs into the street.

JOHN
AUTHOOOORR!!!

CUT TO:

16 INT. TARDIS.

Thud. THE AUTHOR has landed.

THE AUTHOR
Right, to explore!

He makes his way to the door, then stops.

THE AUTHOR
Although...

He moves away from the door, and enters the LIBRARY.

CUT TO:

17 TARDIS LIBRARY.

Rows and rows of shelves, full of books, spread as far as
the eye can see.

THE AUTHOR moves through them, searching.

THE AUTHOR
T. T for Time... Lords...

He moves to another shelf.

THE AUTHOR
Ti... Tiehon Dynasty... Tilt of the
Axis... aha, time!

He looks through some of the books.

THE AUTHOR
Well that's strange. There's not
one book on the time lords. I
guess I'll have to read some of the
other books and see if they
reference them.

The Author sighs.

THE AUTHOR
This will be a long day.

He picks up a book titled 'The Laws of Time'.

PAN TO:

18 STREET.

JOHN runs down the street.

JOHN
What am I doing? Surely the Author
would realise he's left me in the
wrong time period. Ah... and why
is it so hot!?

John looks at a newspaper, on a newspaper stand near the
shop.

The front page reads "HOTTEST SUMMER ON RECORD. CLIMATE
TEMPERATURE INCREASED BY 2 DEGREES!"

JOHN
Oh, of course...

PAN TO:

19 INT. TARDIS.

THE AUTHOR is sitting on the chair, reading 'The Laws of
Time'.

THE AUTHOR
Aha! 'The Laws of Time, as set
down by the Time Lords-'!

His excitement goes.

THE AUTHOR
But, there's nothing
more. Nothing! How come I have
the second largest library in
existence, and there's nothing on
The time Lords! Was it
deliberate? Do the time lords not
want me knowing?

Pause.

THE AUTHOR
Well, looks like I'll be going to
2510 after all!

The Author goes to the door, and walks out.

PAN TO:

20 STREET.

It is night. JOHN is sitting by the street, having to sleep
rough.

An AMBULANCE drives past him - it's sirens blaring. John
looks up. The Ambulance stops at a nearby home.

A POLICE CAR is not far behind, and also drives up to the
house. 2 policemen get out.

POLICEMAN 1
That's the 12th murder today...
This is serious.

They all walk into the house.

JOHN watches from behind the bushes.

The ambulance men come out, carrying a stretcher. On it is
a man, as pale as a sheet.

Bzzz... Bbbzzz...

John turns around. There is buzzing coming from an
alleyway. He walks and takes a look.

CUT TO:

21 ALLEY.

JOHN walks down the alley. The buzzing is coming from the
end.

Then, it reveals itself... A massive FLY, the size of an S1
(or up to John's shoulder)

It flies towards John. John runs for it.

CHASE SCENE. JOHN RUNS DOWN THE ALLEY, QUICKLY BEING
FOLLOWED BY THE FLY.

He turns a corner. It's still there, following him.

John runs into the street.

CUT TO:

22 STREET.

The FLY chases him into the street, which is now deserted,
so nobody can see him.

He desperately runs, but it chases after him.

Gunfire! The fly is shot down, and tumbles across the road,
until stopping, dead.

John ducks, and turns to see the attacker. It's an Winston
called Winston - 61, tough, experienced.

JOHN
I... thank you!

WINSTON
No problem. I wonder if that's the
same creature that attacked me
earlier?

JOHN
What do you mean?

WINSTON
I was attacked by this creature
earlier. I had my gun on me -
don't ask - so I fired a couple of
shots into it. It scared it, and
it flew away.

JOHN
It probably is, then. We should
hide the body.

WINSTON
Why?

JOHN
Well... um, I don't know. It's the
sort of thing he'd do.

WINSTON
And who's he?

JOHN
The Author. Not someone I'm very
fond of, at the moment.

WINSTON
Well I say we leave it here, and
it'll be found and taken for
experiments.

JOHN
Okay.

WINSTON
Right, I'll be seeing you then.

The Winston leaves John with the fly.

JOHN
I can't escape it!

John sighs, and leaves.

PAN TO:

23 EXT. TARDIS.

The Tardis has landed in the middle of a busy street, as a
metal box. It's the year 2660.

THE AUTHOR steps out.

THE AUTHOR
Aha! Gotta love that 26th century
air! The year's 2510, and I've
never felt better!

He looks back at the Tardis.

THE AUTHOR
Well, I have... but, it ruins the
phrase if I say that.

He looks across the street.

THE AUTHOR
How come that sign says
2660? That's fifty years...

He looks back at the Tardis.

THE AUTHOR
And if I traveled exactly 500 years
in the future... then I left John
at 2060! JOHN!

The Author runs into the Tardis.

FADE TO:

24 STREET. MORNING.

JOHN is walking along the street. There are police and
scientists everywhere. John ignores them.

Woooosh... Vworp vworp...

It's the Tardis!

And John runs, like he's never run before!

Following the noise.

And there it is. The Tardis, again as a CAR.

But then behind him, he hears the buzzing.

A FLY flies over his head, to the Tardis.

THE AUTHOR walks out of the Tardis.

JOHN
Author! Look out!

The Author looks up, and spots the fly.

THE AUTHOR
Woah!

The Author retreats into The Tardis, and closes the
door. The Fly turns, and faces John.

JOHN
(sarcastic)
Oh, thanks!

The fly flies towards John.

John cringes, waiting to die.

The Author runs out of the Tardis, wielding a fire
extinguisher gadget.

But he's too late.

The fly is over John.

John screams.

THE AUTHOR
Jooohhn!!

Both John and the fly TELEPORT away.

THE AUTHOR
They teleported?

WINSTON
What is that?

The Author spins around. The Winston is standing there.

THE AUTHOR
Oh, nothing. Sorry, I'm a bit
busy.

The Author runs into The Tardis.

The Winston follows him inside.

CUT TO:

25 INT. TARDIS.

THE AUTHOR walks in, and sees the WINSTON behind him.

THE AUTHOR
No, no, you're not-

WINSTON
My Goodness, it's massive! Still,
once you've seen one physical
anomaly, you've seen them all.

The Author looks at him, half surprised and half impressed.

WINSTON
This teleports, right? Disappears
then re-appears? I saw it.

THE AUTHOR
It dematerialises, yeah... What's
your name?

WINSTON
I'm called Winston. And you?

THE AUTHOR
Call me The Author...

WINSTON
Right then, Mr Author-

THE AUTHOR
No, just Author will do.

WINSTON
Okay Author, are we going where
that fly took John?

THE AUTHOR
How do you know his name?

WINSTON
I met him last night. And you just
yelled it out.

THE AUTHOR
So I did. Very good.

WINSTON
So where are we going?

THE AUTHOR
You're not going anywhere. You've
held me up enough as it is.

WINSTON
I beg your pardon, I won't get in
the way anymore.

THE AUTHOR
No, you won't, because you're
leaving right now!

Winston stays put.

The Author sighs.

THE AUTHOR
I don't have time to argue, John's
in danger!

He runs around the Tardis, as it takes off.

WINSTON
It's a bit bumpy!

THE AUTHOR
Hey, I didn't invite you here!

The Tardis begins making noises which suggest malfunctions.

THE AUTHOR
C'mon, there's gotta be a trace!

A small spark flies off.

THE AUTHOR
No, WORK!!

CUT TO:

26 STREET.

The TARDIS Dematerialises.

27 INT. TARDIS.

THE AUTHOR does his usual routine around the Tardis console.

WINSTON
Is it usually this out of control?

The Author, while running around, almost knocks into him.

THE AUTHOR
I thought you were going to stay
out of my way!

WINSTON
Well now I know you won't go back,
I don't have to try so hard to
please you.

THE AUTHOR
Oh, when this is over you are going
straight home!

Thud.

He's landed.

The Author reads the scanner.

THE AUTHOR
That's interesting...

The Author moves to the door, and exits.

THE AUTHOR
You coming, Winston?

WINSTON
I might as well, I want proof that
this can really dematerialise.

CUT TO:

28 ANTARTICA.

But there's no ice. As far as they can see, it's a barren
wasteland. At all angles. Some plants grow, but not many.

The Tardis has taken the form of a large ROCK. THE AUTHOR
and WINSTON walk out from behind it.

WINSTON
It's changed!

THE AUTHOR
Indeed it has. I think we've gone
a bit off course, but they'll be
within a mile.

WINSTON
So where are we?

THE AUTHOR
Earth! Antarctica, to be
precise. And everything has
melted...

WINSTON
I can remember the days when there
was ice. I never came here myself,
but I saw pictures on the
news. All those scientists
panicking, but everyone ignored
them.

THE AUTHOR
Yeah, that was a mistake. Still,
give it a hundred years, it'll be
sorted out. Antarctica will see
snow again. But now our biggest
concern is John.

He pulls out the SONIC DEVICE.

WINSTON
What's that?

THE AUTHOR
Honestly Winston, you're worse than
John! It's a sonic device, I'm
scanning for Time Radiation.

WINSTON
Ti-?

THE AUTHOR
-Background radiation you pick up
from being in The Tardis. He's
quite near, in this direction!

The Author points to his left.

THE AUTHOR
Right, come on! As a friend of
mine used to say, Allonsy!

WINSTON
Your friend was French?

THE AUTHOR
No, he... I can't remember who he
was, actually...

Silence.

THE AUTHOR
Yes. This way!

They both go in that direction.

PAN TO:

29 ALIEN BASE.

JOHN and the FLY both appear. John falls to the
ground. The fly hisses.

JOHN
What are you?

A DEEP VOICE
John Miller.

John looks to his right. There is a round door, with 3
holes in it. Steam pours out of the holes.

The fly that brought John there leaves.

VOICE
I have summoned you here. You
have... intelligence.

JOHN
Um. Thank you. Who are you?

VOICE
We are the Missatha. We came here
four centuries ago, and were buried
in the ice of the southern pole of
your planet. This is where we have
brought you.

JOHN
Antarctica, I see... But tell me,
are you hostile?

VOICE
I mean no harm to the inhabitants
of this planet.

JOHN
Then why are you going out and
feasting on our people?

VOICE
When we crashed the ice made us
fall into an eternal
hibernation. The increasing
temperature of the planet awoke
us. However our species, the
Missatha, are only supposed to
hibernate over one year. The
extended period has destroyed our
minds, reverting us to our basic
instincts.

JOHN
So, how are you still able to talk?

VOICE
I won't be for much longer. I am
the strongest member of our crew, s
my thoughts have lasted the
longest.

JOHN
How many of you are there>

VOICE
In this ship, thousands. Most I
have contained, but some escaped.
You have seen these.

JOHN
What about the one that brought me
here?

VOICE
I was close to him. The bond
remained, and I was able to have
control over him.

JOHN
Hm, I see. So why do you need
me? You said I was intelligent?

VOICE
I would have preferred the man you
were with. You may not be
intelligent enough.

John ignores this unintentional insult.

JOHN
The Author. So what do you need
him for?

VOICE
I am losing my mind. When it goes,
I will no longer be able to contain
my people, and they will
escape. Your forces may be able to
fight us, but several millions will
be killed in the conflict. I want
him to help us.

Sirens suddenly begin going off.

JOHN
What's that?

VOICE
I am sorry. Another has escaped.

PAN TO:

30 ANTARCTICA.

THE AUTHOR and WINSTON are walking

THE AUTHOR
We're getting close. It shouldn't
be long now. Are you managing?

WINSTON
Hey, I may be older than you, but I
can still keep up!

THE AUTHOR
(to self)
That's a point, how old am I?

WINSTON
What?

THE AUTHOR
Oh, nothing.

Silence for a bit, while they walk.

WINSTON
I still think of Antarctica as
being such a cold place. But this
is no colder than Britain used to
be!

THE AUTHOR
We are right on the edge of
Antarctica. There is still some
snow nearer the center.

They walk on, a bit further.

WINSTON
Hey, Author...

THE AUTHOR
What now?

WINSTON
Over there.

In the air, towards them, comes A FLY.

THE AUTHOR
Get behind me!

The Author pulls out his fire extinguisher gadget, The Fly
flies towards him, and he sprays out the contents. The Fly
cries out, and moves away.

WINSTON
Author, I could just-

THE AUTHOR
(ignoring Winston)
That confirms it then, there are
Missatha! Can't stand the cold, it
sends them into a deep sleep. But,
I don't think a fire extinguisher
will work for much longer...

WINSTON
Author-

THE AUTHOR
Maybe we should return to the
Tardis. But no, I have to save
John. This is my fault.

The fly regains it's power, and begins circling them.

WINSTON
Author-

THE AUTHOR
WHAT?

The fly flies down towards the Author. He ducks, but the
fly still manages to hit him.

THE AUTHOR
Run, Winston!!

He becomes enveloped by the fly.

Winston pulls out his GUN, and fires at the fly. IT
screeches, then lands dead.

The Author rolls over, hurt. He looks up.

THE AUTHOR
You have a gun!?

WINSTON
From my old service days in the
army.

THE AUTHOR
Aren't you supposed to give them
back?

WINSTON
Yeah, but I thought I'd need it
someday. Turns out I did. Aren't
you grateful?

The Author staggers to his feet.

THE AUTHOR
Unwillingly. You are definitely
not hanging around with me when
this is over, got it?

WINSTON
Loud and clear, boss.

The Author sighs.

THE AUTHOR
Come on, then...

PAN TO:

31 MASSITHA BASE.

VOICE (MASSITHA LEADER)
Two humanoids approach! One human,
one of unknown heritage.

JOHN
That'll be the Author, I
suspect. He's coming to help you.

MASSITHA LEADER
He must hurry, I have... little...
time... left...

JOHN
Um, how long until your mind...
goes?

MASSITHA LEADER
Impossible to tell... But... I am
only surviving by... sheer
willpower... Not long.

JOHN
Hurry up Author...

CUT TO:

32 ANTARCTICA.

THE AUTHOR
Aha! Here!

He uses the SONIC DEVICE on the ground. Stairs appear.

WINSTON
This is the fly's spaceship?

THE AUTHOR
Yeah. I'd stay here if I were you,
there's no need both of us being
killed. If I'm not back in 30
minutes, return to the
Tardis. Emergency Protocol 1 will
activate, sending you home.

WINSTON
Not a chance, you need protecting.

THE AUTHOR
Fine, but it's your choice...

They descend the staircase.

CUT TO:

33 MASSITHA BASE.

THE AUTHOR and WINSTON enter.

THE AUTHOR
John!

JOHN
Author!
(sees Winston)
And... you?

WINSTON
Hello!

MASSITHA LEADER
You have arrived... Save... Us...

A screeching noise comes from the room. Then...

The door bursts open, and the Massitha leader, now out of
control, flies at them.

JOHN
Author, look out!

However, the nearest person is Winston... !

THE AUTHOR
WINSTON!!

Winston looks for his gun, but he's too late; it envelopes
him.

Winston screams.

JOHN
No!!

The fly jumps off. Winston's body - white - falls to the
ground. He is dead. The gun slides out to the center of
the room

The Author whips out his EXTINGUISHER GADGET, and blasts the
Massitha leader. It falls to the ground, unconcious.

THE AUTHOR
It'll be out for a while, but I
haven't killed it.

JOHN
Winston... was that his name?

THE AUTHOR
Yeah.

JOHN
He was very brave...

THE AUTHOR
Yeah. He was.

JOHN
Please Author. Save us. Save
them.

THE AUTHOR
I intend to!

He leaps to the door, and goes inside.

He then comes back out.

THE AUTHOR
They're waking. We only have
minutes!

JOHN
Can you bring back their minds?

THE AUTHOR
If I had a genetic laboratory and
more time, maybe. But I
haven't! I don't know.

He thinks, visibly. John is helpless.

THUD.

The door is attacked.

THE AUTHOR
Soon they'll have the stregnth to
break it down.

JOHN
Can you save us?

The Author bends down, and picks up Winston's gun. He
points at a red glass square on the wall.

THE AUTHOR
That's a life supporter. Destroy
that, and they'll all die.

JOHN
Then do that!

THE AUTHOR
And kill thousands? Can I do
that? It goes against my nature.

JOHN
You have no memories! How do you
know it goes against your nature!

THE AUTHOR
If I let myself become a killer,
what sort of monster could I turn
into? With the Tardis, and my
knowledge, I could kill millions of
lives... erase worlds... change the
cosmos...

JOHN
You've got no choice! It's either
them or the humans! Whatever you
do, you're condemming people to
death! But there's less of them
than the humans!

THUD.

JOHN
AUTHOR!!

The Author still has the gun aimed at the life
supporter. He is terrified, and stays still, almost
shaking.

JOHN
Do it, Author!

The Author stays in his position.

JOHN
Author!!

The Massitha leader awakes. It flies up, and attacks John.

The Author looks over, scared. He won't let John die.

JOHN
AUTHOR!!!

Hating himself, the Author makes a decision. He fires at
the life supporter.

Flames and explosions are everywhere, along with alien
screeching. The Massitha leader falls down, dead. John is
alive.

Then it stops.

The Author falls to his knees.

JOHN
Thank you... Author...

The Author ignores him, in shock of what he has done. To
him, killing aliens is as bad as killing humans.

THE AUTHOR
Against my nature... Do all
Time-Lords feel this...?

He gets to his feet, and wanders around. He looks into the
room, then turns. John is panting, regaining his
breath. The Author looks at him, then to the door.

THE AUTHOR
Tardis.

He walks out the door. John follows him.

FADE TO:

34 INT TARDIS.

THE AUTHOR and JOHN walk inside.

JOHN
I'm sorry, that you had to choose
that...

THE AUTHOR
Yeah.

Awkward silence.

THE AUTHOR
I need to find out who I am. If
not... I don't know what I will
become.

JOHN
I'll help you.

The Author turns, surprised, and a bit happy.

THE AUTHOR
You don't want to go home?

JOHN
That night I spent here, I thought
a lot. About getting into a normal
routine, after all this... I don't
think I could do it. I'm used to
this. I like this.

THE AUTHOR
(almost smiling)
Me too.

JOHN
I know a lot of people die. But
think how many people would if you
weren't there?

THE AUTHOR
That's true. So, where do you want
to go now? I'm afraid I can't
guarantee-

JOHN
Anywhere.

THR AUTHOR
Anywhere?

JOHN
Anywhere.

THE AUTHOR
Right. I'll... randomise the
circuits. Who knows where we'll
end up? Could be anywhere. We
could find terrible things, things
beyond comprehension. Or, it could
be the most wonderful experience of
our lives!

He pulls a lever.

CUT TO:

35 EXT. TARDIS.

The Tardis dematerialises.
