Chapter 1
"Nim? Nim? Nim!"
"Aideen! Shut up, some people are still trying to sleep," Nim said groggily, as he turned onto his side, facing the window of the Greyhound Bus.
"No. We're the only people on this bus." I said.Sadly, we were the only two people on the bus. No one would even bother to travel across the nation, to Maryland from California, unless they have nothing better to do.
Of course, Nim and I do have a reason for going to Maryland. It's for me. No, I'm not trying to sound like I'm full of myself. It's true.
Well, it's not all for me. Truthfully, Nim and I have to train ourselves, like we do twice month, with the help of Moriel. And he needs to assist me with my anger-management. and temper problems so I don't blow anyone up. No, seriously.
After an hour of a turbulent journey, I was bored out of my mind. I looked out my window, wow. A town! I never see those in California. (Sarcasm, taking over.) I looked at Nim.
Not surprisingly, he was snoring and asleep. Nim was curled into a loose ball, his back facing me. He looked so pathetic. No offense to him.
I looked at my fingertips. I could feel the skin on my hands rapidly heating up. My eyes darted back and forth from Nim to my fingers. Maybe just a little shock... My hand almost touched the sleeve of his jacket when he jolted awake and slapped my hand away.
"What the f--"
"Don't even think about sparking me while I'm asleep." Nim scolded.
"Live a little, Nimrod! Have some fun. At least let me have some fun."
"I will when you learn to control the fire. Until then I can't trust you." Nim spoke in a hushed tone. He knew we were the only two on the bus, aside from the driver, but someone could be listening.
Nim and I are the only two pyrokinetics left on Earth. Nim -- since he's so perfect -- has already learned how to control his fire. I, on the other hand, still need to learn how to control my fire. That's the main reason why we're going to Maryland. Moriel lives there, and he doesn't like to travel. (So we do it for him?)
After, possibly, an hour, Nim and I fell asleep. We had a long trip ahead of us, and a lot of practice, so we needed to conserve our energy.
