We open on a dark, stormy night, with a man in about his mid-thirties driving home after a long day at work. The only source of light comes from his car's headlight, illuminating the road in front of him. The clapping of thunder gets louder as his car moves closer to its destination. The noise is growing closer, until a flash of lightning strikes the front of his car, causing it to spiral out of control before finally coming to a screeching halt. When the man exits the car to inspect the damage, he is stunned to find a woman lying atop his now dented hood. She is the most beautiful woman he'd ever laid eyes on, and she was gasping for air. The man rushed her to the nearest hospital. While at the hospital, the woman is hooked up to a breathing machine, but it seems to only worsen her condition as she clutches her throat and gasps in excruciating pain. The doctors take her off the machine, but do not know how to help her, except by letting her rest.
One week later, the man gets a call to come and pick the woman up from the hospital. When he arrives, he sees she's given a clean bill of health. When the man offers to drive the woman home, he soon finds that she has no home to go to, so he let's her stay with him.
A year and a half goes by, and the man and woman are now happily married and expecting their first child. Their son is born, and their family is complete.
Five years later, the boy has developed special unique to his kind, something that frightens the father but comes as little surprise to the mother, who soon decides that she needs to go away for a while. She leaves behind a silver necklace with a Z-shaped charm for her son to keep. Before kissing her family goodbye, she promises to return as soon as she can. But more often than not, usually without realizing it, we make promises we can't keep, and it hurts those closest to us. But why did she leave? Why does her son possess such great power? What is she hiding?
The woman retreats to a place in Central Park, where Cleopatra's Needle stood tall, and entered a wormhole to a world a lot like ours, except connected more with nature…
The woman returned home to this world of hers-an ocean planet with giant trees rising from the waters. The water is crystal clear, exposing the very floor beneath the surface. The atmosphere is virtually cloudless, which strengthens the woman's health and physique tenfold. After she exited and closed the wormhole, she stood atop one of these trees before a group of men dressed in black, satin-like unitards with metallic-blue shoulder shields, each with different red markings on the chest. As soon as they saw her, they all bowed in respect before escorting her home. She resided in the tallest, widest tree on the entire planet. Once there, her father, the Sovereign, greeted her with a warm hug.
Sovereign: My dear Amyra, I've missed you so much. Where have you gone?
Amyra: Father, I have much to tell you. But I must speak with the Elder Sovereign.
Sovereign: The Elder, your grandfather, will be happy to hear that you've finally come back to us. I've been meaning to talk to you about something important. Come walk with me.
The Sovereign and his daughter Amyra walk into a chamber built inside the Grand Tree to speak with the Elder, whom also expresses his happiness by hugging his granddaughter. Now comes the news that had led to her return.
Amyra: I have returned to Zephyr after spending over six years on Terra, getting to know the other side of our co-existence.
Elder: Good, because your father is retiring, and you're up for the role of Eastern Sovereign. We've waited a long time for you to choose a husband to rule in your place and give you an heir, but…
Sovereign: You haven't done so. And so we've decided to give the position to you. It may seem unconventional that an unwed woman is named the next Sovereign, but it is necessary.
Amyra: But Father, Grandfather, I won't be returning alone. I have chosen a man to be my husband, and he is waiting for me back on Terra.
Elder: You chose a Terrestrial over a Zephyrian?
Amyra: He saved my life and gave me shelter. Then he gave me his heart. We're mated for life now. But there's more I must tell you. My husband and I, we have-
Amyra was cut short when a loud bang was heard from outside the Grand Tree. When they ran outside to investigate, they saw what appeared to be a war going on. The people wearing blue shields wear being attacked by others who wore red shields with blue markings. Amyra, the Sovereign and the Elder recognized the attackers as the Southern Colony: The other half of Zephyrian civilization, which consists of those who don't share the same laws and beliefs as the Northern Colony. The Northerners in Blue faced off against the Southerners in Red, throwing fireballs, ice blasts, shockwaves, and even crossing swords. There was a war, and the reason for it leaped from one of the lower trees onto the Grand Tree, landing right in front of Amyra and her family. This was a scaly-green, bald man, wearing a black suit equipped with a red shoulder shield with blue markings. Amyra immediately recognized him as an old friend.
Amyra: Zhi-Lla Komodo, you traitor, what have you done?
Komodo: I have secured peace on Zephyr for all time!
Sovereign: By starting a war?! We haven't had a war in over a thousand years!
Elder: You have broken the covenant our two Colonies have worked so hard to establish. A lifetime to build, a millennium to keep, and you've single-handedly undone all of it. How? Why?
Komodo: I simply killed the Southern Sovereign and framed you for it. And I'm doing this to preserve peace.
Amyra: Zhi-Lla, how is this peaceful?
Komodo: Because when the battle is over, those left standing on both sides will need leadership. And I will be there to lead them into a new age.
Elder: So many Zephyrians will die, simply because you want to be a god?
Komodo: Silence, you old kook, before I run you through!
Amyra quickly darted passed Komodo and headed back for the doorway, knowing that Komodo would try to take control of both worlds, unless she sealed the portal shut. The Elder and the Sovereign drew their swords and used their respective powers of Pyromancy and Cryomancy to slow him down, but Komodo made short work of them, biting the neck of the Elder, then using his fire powers to incinerate the Sovereign. After dodging the ongoing fights, Amyra was now at the portal's location. She opened the doorway and stepped into the nexus between our worlds. She opened the doorway to Terra, pulled out a charm similar to the one she left for her son, and branded its shape into a rock in Central Park. This would be a clue left behind for her son when he comes of age. However, as she wept, knowing that she may never see her new family again, Komodo had finally arrived and entered the nexus.
Komodo: Give it up, Amyra. It's over. I don't wish to harm you, only to help you.
Amyra: I won't let you destroy another world like you did Zephyr. You've disrupted our peace and thrown us right back into the Age of Shadows! I won't let you hurt my family.
Komodo: Your father and grandfather are already dead. You have no family left. Their deaths were regrettable, but they stood in my way. We shall start a new family together, you and I. We can finally be together, Amyra. Isn't that what you've always wanted?
Amyra: At this point, I would rather die than become your wife!
Komodo's face showed great resentment to her reply, but his grimace soon curled into a grin.
Komodo: You know, out of all the powers I've leached from these dead Zephyrians, empathy has to be one of the most useful. I can sense feelings, and you feel fear. Fear that I might learn what you're hiding from me. I sense love, too, but not for me. You fear for the ones you love, yet when I informed you of your family's death, that fear has not yet subsided.
He was getting warmer. It wasn't long before Komodo figured it out. Then he smiled a sinister smile, exposing his vampire-like fangs.
Komodo: You have a family somewhere else, don't you? A husband? A child? A son! Hahaha! I don't believe it! You are wedded to a Terrestrial, aren't you?!
Amyra: I won't let you near them.
Komodo: Don't worry, Amyra, your son will be my heir, that is, once I've eliminated the father. Hahaha!
She couldn't bear the thought of her son becoming an evil monster like Komodo. Amyra unsheathed a staff, augmented it with her power, and struck the ground with it, closing off Terra from the nexus.
Komodo: No! What have you done?
Amyra: I've just closed the portal. You'll never reach my son!
Amyra attacked Komodo. The fight was even for a while, but Komodo's additional powers overwhelmed Amyra, and she lost the duel. But Komodo was disappointed that he could not open the portal to Terra, and Amyra, being of royal blood, was the only one who could.
Komodo: I would never hurt your son, Amyra. Why do you go through so much trouble to protect him? I would've loved him as my own. Our own.
Amyra: He could never be yours! My son is more than just Zephyrian-his destiny is much greater than any of ours.
Komodo's grimace slowly returned as he realized what she was talking about.
Komodo: What have you done?
Amyra: I have given birth to a legend, Zhi-Lla. My son possesses all the natural Zephyrian gifts that each of us is born with. My son will grow up big and strong, and when the time comes, he will become the prophesized Zephyrian savior-the Avatar of Light!
His face lit up with fear. Komodo never believed in the Zephyrian religions, let alone the legends that spawned from them. However, he could sense she was telling the truth, because he felt a sudden uplift in her confidence.
Komodo: Open the portal right now, or I swear I'll-
Amyra: You'll kill me? Zhi-Lla, if you do that, you'll never be able to open the portal yourself. Only someone of royal blood can open it, and as long as I'm alive, I'll never open it for you.
Komodo let out an angry cry that echoed through the air as the raging battle between the Northern and Southern Colonies came to a hault. Komodo's soldiers captured and bound Amyra on the Grand Tree, where Komodo made his public speech.
Komodo: People of the North and South, I have avenged your fallen brethren! The Sovereign and the Elder are dead! I have captured the Princess, and I will imprison her for her crimes against Zephyr! Amyra al-Vasilgn, you are charged with conspiracy to overthrow both Northern and Southern governments, and you have been found guilty of your crimes! However, I am willing to offer you amnesty if, and only if, you open the nexus and take me to Terra!
Komodo leaned in and smiled at her, but she simply spit right back in his face.
Amyra: This was your plan all along, to set me up to take the fall for your breaking of the covenant?
Komodo: Actually, that was Plan B, in case you didn't agree to my terms. You will now serve a life sentence inside the nexus, literally frozen between time and space.
At Komodo's command, the Winter guards of the North froze Amyra in a block of ice up to her neck, and tossed her into the nexus, leaving her trapped for all time, until she was ready to open the Terrestrial doorway. With the war over, Komodo took the throne and declared himself the Supreme Sovereign of Zephyr. As long as Amyra was frozen out of reach from her son, he'd never grow up knowing his true destiny. And as long as he didn't know, he could not stop Komodo's reign. But one thing was for certain: Komodo would not rest until he had both Zephyr and Terra under his rule. It's only a matter of time before Terra becomes accessible.
