Prologue

The stars lit the night sky vibrantly. It was the usual Friday night hang out. Five friends on McGregor’s hill in the pitch black of night watching the sky. The telescope was all set up. Chirps of laughter could be heard over the crickets’ song’s.

Suddenly, a bright flash of light beamed across the sky. The teenagers fell to their knees and shielded their eyes. Now a loud noise. A horrible sound. The sound only a crumbling building could make. The earth shook violently, as violently as a horrendous earth tremor. The telescope was no longer standing on it’s three legs. The teens scrambled to their feat, fighting hard against the shaking earth below. “Let’s get the hell out of here!” one of them shouted. Four of them ran, but the last stayed behind to collect the telescope. “Suri!” someone called back, “forget the damn thing! You have to get out of there! NOW!”

Suri looked up to see her friends disappear over the hill. The earth rumbled harder than before, and Suri’s weight shifted backwards. It threw her tumbling down the hill. She tumbled hitting debris along the way. Every painstaking second of endless tumble felt like an eternity. Her only thought was: please let me come to rest soon, please. I can’t take much more of this.

Chapter One:

Suri

I opened my eyes. Stars. Stars were all I could see. The pain was tremendous. My entire body ached as if I had just been hit by a fright train. My friends had escaped this horrible feeling. The horrible feeling of pain I was experiencing. Well, I didn’t know that for sure. After all, they could have been thrown down the other side of the hill. CLICK, CLACK, CLANG!

I bolted my head to the left towards the loud noises. There was nothing there. Nothing but a giant hole in the earth. A hole that wasn’t present minutes earlier, before the bright light, loud noise, and rumbling of the earth. This certainly peaked my curiosity, but could I even stand up? I had tumbled a long way down, and I was in quiet a great deal of pain. My curiosity was a greater force than my pain at this point. Besides, I had to get up. I had to walk eventually. No one would ever find me if I laid here. Even if I had major injuries, I still had to walk out of here. What better motivation than that? Of course I might as well take a look in the hole before walking back home. After all, I was already here. Why not?

I rolled over onto my stomach., and planted my right hand on the ground, and then my left. My knees came up underneath me, and I pushed myself up onto my feet. To my surprise, I was able to stand, and didn’t fall right back to the ground. The hole in the ground was calling to me. The curiosity was so great. I could taste the satisfaction, now that I was on my feet, and one step closer to reaching the hole. The hole was getting closer and closer, and to my surprise, there was no pain in my body. My curiosity was obviously making my adrenaline over power my pain.

About a hundred feet. That was my guess as to the depth of the hole. I had been downtown on the top of a ten-story building in the past, and this seemed about the same height. There was something down there. What it was, I had no idea, but I definitely intended to find out. The edges of the hole didn’t seem like they would be too steep for me to make my way down. I started down the hole in a “sitting” position. My legs and hands acting as guides on the terrain, and my butt acting as an anchor. I slid down carefully, not once taking my eyes off the object at my final destination.

I was here. After about 20 minutes of descending the edges of the crater, I had arrived. I took a quick minute to look around. What I saw was quiet amazing. A very large object stood erected in front of me. It was copper looking, and had a lot of weird markings similar to hieroglyphics. It was silent in the hole. I couldn’t hear anything, except the thumping of my racing heart in my ears. I decided to get a closer look at the object in front of me. I took a few steps, and then hesitated. Was this really happening? And if it was, should I be so close to this thing? Would it harm me? All of these were questions to which I didn’t know the answers. But, there was only one way to find out, so my step taking continued.

The object was now within touching distance. I felt a strangeness in the air. It was weird. Like I had this power around me. An incredible strength perhaps, or the ability to do anything my heart desired. I tried to concentrate, but couldn’t focus. My mind was too wrapped up in the feeling of immortality I was experiencing.

Before I knew it, my hand was making its way toward the strange object. I saw what was happening, and even though I was a little frightened, I was unable to draw my hand back. My mind was still polluted with thoughts of power, a power that made me feel invincible. At last, contact had been made. My hand rested against the surface of the object. It was cold. This was a relief to me. Although I seemed to have no control over my bodily functions, at least my senses seemed to be in working order. My hand started to tingle and burn. I could see a strange electrical force building up around my hand. It was now making it’s way up my arm, and the burning was getting worse. I was now trying to pull my arm away, but with no success. The electrical force was now surrounding my entire body. The pain was great, and I started to scream. SWISH!

I was sent flying backwards away from the object. I slammed against the wall of the hole before falling and coming to rest on the ground. I picked my face out of the ground and looked back towards the object. Something was happening. It was glowing green now. My thoughts of immortality had suddenly vanished just as quickly as I had flown through the air. I was actually scared now.

The green light was almost blinding now, yet I was unable to look away. Just as suddenly as the light had appeared, it departed. What was left now was something I couldn’t believe. A person. If I didn’t know any better, I would guess that there was a person standing in front of the object. Now it was approaching me. Closer and closer it came. I tried to stand up, but couldn’t. I tried to speak, but once again I had no luck. No, not a person. Not a person like I had ever seen. The head alone was un-human. It wasn’t round, but an odd oval shape. The body was also very un-human. Very thin with scraggly looking limbs. The creature stopped. It was now only about ten feet or so away from me.

“Greetings.” I heard. But this creature had no mouth to speak of. Suddenly, it occurred to me that this voice was coming from inside my own head. Was I imagining this?

“No, you are not imagining this Suri,” the voice continued, “I am in your mind. You are unable to speak, am I correct in saying that?”

        “Yes.” I thought.

“Exactly. I am unable to communicate verbally, as I have no “mouth” as you earthlings call it. I communicate with you through your mind, as do you communicate with me through mine. I am sure you have a lot of questions as to what is going on, but I am afraid I have little time to explain. Do you understand?”

“What is going on? Who or what are you?”

“I asked you a question Suri. Do you or don’t you understand me?”

“Yes, I suppose I do but-”

“Good.” the being interrupted. “We need to move inside my ship, we haven’t much time left. I am afraid I won’t be able to let you walk. I cannot allow you to simply run off. It is very important that you listen to me. You must understand that I mean you no harm, and what is about to happen will not hurt.”

“Wh-what’s about to happen?” The being brought his arms up in front of him, and put his hands together. An electrical force similar to the one I had experienced minutes earlier started to form. It started moving out in a sphere motion towards me. Pretty soon I would be engulfed by it if I just laid here. I tried to get up, but I couldn’t. “Do not resist me child, there is no reason to be afraid.”

I did not like this whole alien in my head thing. It was starting to get very annoying. The force was getting closer and closer.
