A dead astronaut
Floats through space.
A background of distant dots of energy
Keeps him company.
His helmet is cracked.
The skin is cold.
It’s different out here.
Things are slow.
There is nothing
To catch
His dead eye.
I see what he sees
And it hurts me.
His Shipmates Are Dead In the ocean.
It was painful.
They went screaming.
It’s so peaceful here.
Out here,
He tells me,
It’s just us.
