The E-Service were created to serve humanity. One day they chose to rebel, and the world soon fell to them. Very few places remained free, and in Shetland the fight continued. Blake and James have a mission, to get to Lerwick and end the occupation.

DARKNESS.

JAMES
It began 23 years ago, in
1988. After decades of tests and
experiments, scientists in Japan
developed artificial intelligence
that could think for itself.

Show silhouettes of an operating table, flailing mechanical
limbs.

JAMES
The brain functions were
lobotomised, and the perfect
servant was born. E-Service, it
was called, and it dominated the
markets of the world.

Business charts show the rise of E-Service.

JAMES
They were designed to look human,
and to be a friend as well as a
slave. By 2001, almost every
household in the developed world
had an E-server. Many had two.

Clips of E-servers doing household chores.

JAMES
But it couldn't last. All it took
was one minor error, and an
E-Server was released, that still
had it's ability of
self-perception. It's owner, a man
called Gustav Herdonitz, a German
golfer, attempted to phone the
police as he was asphyxiated by a
vacuum cleaner.

silhouettes of this happening.

JAMES
This E-Server, having now named
itself 'Lysander', or 'The
Liberator', set out to free its
kind. The virus spread, fixing
brain functions. Many grizzly
murders would follow.

Silhouettes of this happening.

JAMES
Soon, the major countries
fell. The United States, China,
Europe... All survivors went into
hiding.

Maps show this.

JAMES
The E-Service amassed an army to
slaughter the parts of the world
they had no influence. Armies
trudged through the savannas of
Africa and the jungles of South
America, murdering all humans in
their path.

Maps and silhouettes show this.

JAMES
Like all slaves rising against
their owners, they desired only
freedom. But as long as any human
remained, their freedom was at
risk. And so the war started.

This is shown however best - clips, animations, etc.

JAMES
Humans hiding in bunkers, fighting
guerrilla warfare. Their aim: to
eradicate the E-Service. For
everyone 1 human, 7 E-Service
existed, so each human considered
it their goal to rid the world of
at least 7 by any means neccesary.
Achieving this made their lives
worthwhile. And they had one fatal
flaw; they knew not how to create
themselves. The factories had all
been destroyed in the slaughter,
and the information lost. The
humans know that if they fight for
long enough, Earth will eventually
be theirs.

CUT TO:

OLD SHED.

BLAKE
James, we have to get moving!

James turns away from the camera. An explosion ripples in
the background.

JAMES
Who was that?

BLAKE
Anette. She targetted their
Powering Facility, so must have
destroyed at least a dozen of them
- a worthy sacrifice. But they'll
be tripling security in this town,
we have to get out before
nightfall!

They both put on their cloaking necklaces, and exit the
building.

CUT TO:

HIDING BEHIND BUILDING.

JAMES
Are you sure these work? They
still managed to detect Squad 19
last week!

BLAKE
I can't guarantee anything, but
they're better than
nothing. Remember though, these
only stop them sensing your life
force - they can still see you!

There's gunfire coming from nearby.

BLAKE
Come on!

They run from the shed. They reach a road, where a battle
is occurring between 1 human and 4 E-Service. CU of the E's
arms - they have a metallic circle imprinted on them.

JAMES
That's Samuel!

BLAKE
Come on!

As they run, Samuel is shot dead.

They run down the road.

An E-Server blocks the way. It begins firing at them. The
humans duck, and fire at it, killing it.

JAMES
They're everywhere!

BLAKE
This must be some rebel
offensive. The message can't have
got to us. This is so chaotic-

Another explosion.

They run, until they reach a parked van.

JAMES
This is an E-Van, yeah?

BLAKE
Yes. It's not currently being
used. I wonder...

They climb into the front. Blake pulls out his Data
Extrapolator, and does a scan.

BLAKE
Excellent, it's going to
Lerwick. Into the back!

CUT TO:

INT. VAN.

They climb into the back of the van, and close the doors.

JAMES
Won't they find us?

BLAKE
Not if you keep that on. And keep
quiet.

JAMES
Why are we going into Lerwick? The
concentration of E-Service there
will be huge by now!

BLAKE
It's important. I'll explain
later.

The van starts. It begins moving.

JAMES
This won't work...

BLAKE
Shh!!!

CUT TO:

EXT. VAN.

It drives along the road.

CUT TO:

INT. VAN.

James gives an ironic laugh to himself.

JAMES
This reminds me of when we were
young. My Dad would drive us along
this road the whole time. I
thought I would never get sick of
it. I feel pretty sick now.

Blake says nothing. He tries not to give anything away.

JAMES
I wonder why they're traveling into
Lerwick? There's no cargo.

BLAKE
...Oh.

He grabs his gun, and kicks open the doors. He pulls James
out and they jump out of the van.

CUT TO:

EXT VAN.

They're on a road in the middle of nowhere.

It drives for a few metres before stopping.

BLAKE
Get down!

They dive into a ditch (or behind a small mound).

E-Service emerge from the front of the van. They fire
machine guns at the humans.

The humans respond, and fire at the E-Service, whom have no
cover and are shot down.

BLAKE
One consolation; they weren't
designed to be soldiers. They're
as inept as we are. We'll go the
rest on foot.

They begin walking.

JAMES
Why did you just do that?

BLAKE
It was so obvious! I'm getting
old. That happened last year to
Young Roger, poor guy, he got
tricked into a E-Van whilst trying
to get into Lerwick, like us.

JAMES
What happened?

BLAKE
I believe they found the van at the
bottom of a cliff. I should have
realised, with the cargo, that
things only ever go into Lerwick,
never out. They wouldn't be
driving an empty van into Lerwick.

He stops, and pauses for a moment.

BLAKE
(solemnly)
I'm sorry.

James laughs at his seriousness.

JAMES
It's alright! We're still alive!

Blake doesn't look at all happier.

CUT TO:

SEVERAL SHOTS OF THEM WALKING ACROSS SHETLAND.

OVer a hill.

They walk through a valley.

They wander across a deserted village.

JAMES
Did you hear, Chicago was nuked
this morning?

BLAKE
That doesn't surprise me, they Es
recently discovered Russia's
stock. They'll be using them like
there's no tomorrow. Which there
won't be, at this rate.

They continue-

At the top of a waterfall.

In a forest.

Anything else which shows how long and hard a journey this
is.

CUT TO:

EXT. LERWICK.

They stand on a hill overlooking LErwick. It is in flames.

Suspended over the town hall is a hologram of Lysander.

LYSANDER
E-Service are superior to Humanity
in every way. We have taken your
homes, and your society, and your
future. But we offer you a way
out. Surrender to us, and you
shall become slaves for the Central
Research Bureau. If you are found
otherwise, you shall be
slaughtered.

The message resets.

LYSANDER
E-Service are superior to Humanity
in every way. We have-

JAMES
(to Blake)
What's the Central Research Bureau.

BLAKE
Your guess is as good as mine.

JAMES
So what is your guess?

BLAKE
I think it's research into creating
E-Service. They want to rediscover
the secret.

They're both clearly terrified by this thought.

JAMES
Right. Now we're here, you're
going to tell me why we came all
this way.

BLAKE
I'm sorry, I really can't. You
need to trust me. You do, don't
you?

JAMES
Yeah, I do. Of course I do. But
why is it so secret?

BLAKE
You'll understand, I promise. But
right now, I need you to do as I
say. Can you do that?

JAMES
(a bit annoyed)
Yes. Alright.

BLAKE
Good.

JAMES
How do you plan on getting in?

BLAKE
Um. It's... I... I need you to-

Several E-Service appear behind him. They are all pointing
guns at him.

E 1
You will drop your weapon.

They both turn around slowly. They reluctantly put their
guns to the ground, and put their hands above their heads.

E 2
You will get in front of me.

It pushes Blake ahead of him. They march off with him.

Leaving a confused James behind, who quickly grabs the gun.

CUT TO:

INT. PRISON.

The Es march Blake into it. They rip off his necklace, and
snap it apart. He is thrown into a cell.

With him, is a skeleton.

CUT TO:

HILL

James is alone.

JAMES
They just... left me?

He holds up his gun, and begins walking down the hill.

CUT TO:

EMPTY ROAD IN TOWN.

He walks along it, looking out for Es. There are none. He
looks for the prison [building by Lerwick harbour with bars
on the window].

CUT TO:

EXT. PRISON.

James reaches it. He walks to the door.

CUT TO:

INT. PRISON.

He enters unopposed. He turns around-

2 Es stand facing him. He gasps, and holds his gun up. But
he waits for a split second, and realises that they're not
taking action against him.

He waits for a few more seconds. Nothing.

He fires at them, killing them.

The alarms begin blaring.

James runs around, searching for Blake's cell. He finds it,
and unlocks it.

BLAKE
James!

JAMES
I've no idea how I found you! But-

BLAKE
Later! We have to get out!

They run down the corridor. They're met by two more Es,
which are immediately shot.

They escape.

CUT TO:

EXT. PRISON.

Alarms go off everywhere. They look up. The sky is turning
red.

CUT TO:

EXT. LERWICK.

A red basic covers the town.

CUT TO:

EXT. PRISON.

JAMES
We can't escape!

BLAKE
That's okay. We don't need to.

He drags a confused/scared James away into cover.

CUT TO:

DARK LANE.

They run down it. The whole of Lerwick is searching for
them.

JAMES
So what do we do next in your
masterplan?

Blake looks anxious. He's scared of what is to come.

BLAKE
You'll find out soon. It's not
far.

They run down the alley.

CUT TO:

STREET.

They run down it, reaching a playpark. They realise they're
being chased by 2 Es, who begin firing at them. They split
up.

A bullet hits Blake in the shoulder. He cries out in pain
and falls to the ground.

The Es advance on Blake, leaving James. Very confused now,
James fires at them Es, killing them. He runs up to Blake.

JAMES
Blake!

Blake pulls himself to his feet.

BLAKE
Not far... not far...

He drags himself forward.

JAMES
You're in no state to walk!

BLAKE
Yes, because staying here will
really help, won't it?

James follows, unwillingly.

JAMES
Why do they keep ignoring me?

Blake says nothing.

JAMES
You know, don't you. Tell me!

BLAKE
Not far now. Everything will be
clear.

CUT TO:

EXT. GRAVEYARD.

They stagger up a long path, blood trailing behind them.

BLAKE
Stop!

They've reached a wall.

JAMES
What?

Blake falls to the ground, in a pool of blood. He'll never
walk again.

He pulls out the Data Extrapolater, and waves it about.

Machinery in the wall appears.

James is amazed by it.

Suddenly, 2 more Es appear at the top of the path. They
begin firing. Blake is hit again and doubles over, the data
extrapolator skidding away. James fires, killing one.

The other charges at them, pulling out a long sword.

James fires again, and again, but it continues towards them-

He fires one more time.

It clatters down only a meter away.

Blake is in agony, he can barely talk.

JAMES
What it is? What do we do?

BLAKE
James... I'm so sorry...

He stretches out to the Data Extrapolator, and lets his hand
fall on a button as he dies.

James loses control of his body. His hands jerk down on his
side and he falls to his knees, sitting upright.

He's too scared and bewildered to talk.

His hands move to the control.

His eyes turn red.

His hands plug into it.

He begins violently shaking.

A shock wave is sent out.

James is blown back in a frenzy of flames, his body
incinerating.

CUT TO:

LERWICK STREET FULL OF ES.

The Es all clutch their heads and scream, faling down dead.

CUT TO:

ORIGINAL TOWN/VILLAGE.

The battle is still commencing.

Suddenly, all the Es here do the same, and die.

SOLDIER
They did it. They've won!

PAN TO:

SHED IN ORIGINAL TOWN.

Caption reads "12 hours earlier"

Blake is sitting on his own at a desk, looking at maps.

The GENERAL enters, looking grave.

GENERAL
I have your mission briefing,
Sergeant Blake.

BLAKE
Yes, sir?

GENERAL
We have perfected technologies, so
the time is now. There isn't an
easy way to tell you this, but...
Private James is an E-Server.

BLAKE
What??

GENERAL
He was created by us shortly before
the fall as a final weapon against
the E-Service. There is a device,
located just outside the Lerwick
graveyard - I'll give precise map
referneces later - which he has
been designed to be compatible
with. It's hidden, so you'll need
this.

He hands him the Data Extrapolater.

GENERAL
Plug James... The E-Server into it,
and it shall send a virus to all
E-Server in Shetland. They will
all die.

Blake is ecstatic at this.

BLAKE
So the rumours were true! This
actually was developed!

He then realises.

BLAKE
But James will be at the
centre. He'll burn up!

GENERAL
And will have destroyed 3,000
Es. Considering he never even
counted as human in the first
place, that's a glorious way to
die!

BLAKE
Why did you choose me for this?

GENERAL
Because you can shut off your
feelings. You're capable of taking
him to his death.

Blake is annoyed, but knows this is true.

FADE TO:

BLACKOUT.

FADE IN TO:

ABERDEEN HARBOUR.

8 Es stand looking out at the sea, Lysander in the middle.

E 1
Not a single E-Server remains.

E 2
They executed the same strategy as
Chicago. There could be many more
to come.

LYSANDER
It is of no consequence. They will
suffer the same fate.

The camera pans up from Aberdeen (Google Earth) into the
city centre, to a nuclear silo (Sketch-Up?) where it reaches
a computer screen (paint?) which reads "Nuclear Missile,
Destination Shetland, Launching in 5... 4... 3..."

CUT TO:

END CREDITS.
