Lay Me Down, Swear to God

Poetry By: Coralie
Song lyrics

A poem about helping out a particular four people, giving them your all, and then being thrown away when they don't want you anymore.

Caught staring across the room
Lost in thought, memories out of the blue.
Hold my stare until you can't take it,
Lie to yourself so that you can fake it.
Gain my trust and steal my heart,
Then all you do is break it.
Leave me behind like all the rest,
Once inseparable, now a pest.
Keeping away what one couldn't believe,
I stand here and watch you leave.

Crying myself to sleep at night,
I'm participating in an uphill battle, a doomed fight.
Still I yearn to see you come back,
But forgiveness has always been something that I lack.
Four years, three years, two and one,
With each of you, it's been a long run.
Yet they all go and leave me alone
Forgetting all that I have done,
The past alone can never be undone.

Acting as though I'm a beast,
Though it is you upon my sorrow, shall feast.
Skip the talk and pass the excuse
Pent up anger had finally been let loose.
The threats come and they go
Along with it, frustration that you will never know.
Praying to a god that isn't there
I walk through the halls to receive a bitter glare.
All that's left of me is a shell, a ghost,
That's searching for what I miss most.

Asking my self repeated questions to see
If any one of you has been thinking of me.
Wonder if I ever cross your mind
The answer to such I never will find.
Cast off and thrown away,
Mistakes that I've made only ruin my day.
Wipe away all of the smoke and the tears,
And someday you'll discover my darkest fears.
To be given up on and used,
Stolen, hurt, beaten and bruised.
To look at you would be a disgrace,
Because all that you are is an empty place.

Lay me down and swear to god,
That you'd never acknowledge my existence,
Let alone give me a nod
In my direction, be grateful for what I have done
Rescued you after the setting sun.
Pardon me, I must try to fill the space
That once was in my heart, it was your place.
Many times, your life I have saved,
Killing me slowly is how you've repaid.
