Hey remember that boy
He was blonde
And I don't remember
What was going on
And one day it ended
And he said "Dont be sad"
And I kind of smiled
'Cause I was pretty glad
Hey remember that boy
His hair was curled
And he smiled at me
And it was like the whole world
And he said "Let's read now
I know this great book"
And he never loved me
But I was hooked
Hey remember that boy
Who's hair stood on end
He was real cute
But was just a passing trend
And he said "Hey baby
How you doin' tonight?"
And I said "Well dearie
I guess I'm alright."
Then
They
Got older
Then
They
Got grown
Then
The adults
Came on over
And they said
There is something
That you ought to know
"The adults
Aren't as smart
As you think"
And the lines
We had drawn
Got so blurry
And they said
"The adults
Don't rule the world"
And we said,
Well we thought
We didn't rule it either
Hey remember that girl
She was kind of short
And she wore too much purple
But she packed so much force
And she said "Oh hell no
I can defend myself
I'll have his stupid head
Up on my shelf"
Hey remember that girl
Her hair wasn't red
And she'd make up silly jokes
'Bout bein' in bed
And she was so sweet
So innocent
And yet there were no clouds
In her head
Hey remember that girl
Who grew up feeling small
And one day she looked down
And realized she was tall
And she said "I'm mature now
I'm all grown up"
And everyone swallowed
Her little bluff
And
Then
They got older
And
They
Got grown
Then
The adults
Came on over
And they said
"There's something
That you ought to know"
"The adults
Are smarter
Than you'll ever be"
But that didn't stop
The lines
From blurring
And they said
"The adults
Rule the world
But that didn't stop
Her from stepping up
To the voting booth
Hey remember that boy
He was too damn smart
And he said "Sarah listen,
It's all just an art.
There is no other world
It's all one big mess
Of adults and children
Who just can't confess"
And then he looked up at me
And then he looked out
He said "Sarah, get over it
The future is now."
