Memories and Ideas

Nearly died in Prague hospital. A life history, some...

This is a mixture of different things. Some funny stuff, some serious stuff. Some good invention-type ideas, some spiritual musings.

I was born in Ohio. lived there as a child, long enough to fully develop an Ohio accent. This way of speaking gave me license to be vastly superior to all my classmates in Tennessee. I forgot to tell you, we moved to Tennessee when I was a ten year old boy. So I became, over time, a southerner, something for which I had to repent of, when I began to teach English to students in Europe. They let me know, in no uncertain terms, that they wanted to study English, not American gibberish. This is said with all due respect for Americans, of every state.

Before teaching, I had other careers. I have been a designer and painter of signs of all types. I have been a soldier, a deputy in the Sheriff department (briefly), an assistant teacher to learning-disabled children, an orderly (a hospital job, out of date, now, similar to being a nursing assistant), a steel loader, and a security guard.

I call myself an artist, because I’ve done some paintings. I’ve dabbled in that all my life. I reckon I think of myself as somewhat of an artist, howbeit an unsuccessful one. I suppose I must also mention this- I have been, at one time, a sort of an amateur minister. During this short period, I was the song-leader in my church. This was convenient, because my wife, at the time, was the piano player.

I have hung around long enough to be somewhat upper-middle-age.

I spent seven years in Europe, in the Czech Republic. My wanderings have brought me back to the sweet sunny south again (South Carolina). As I have said, I am patently unsuccessful, but employed. I am alone, but not lonely. My soul is right with God. I have a few good friends. So life is good. I’m happy. I want to be blessed, and to be a blessing to others. God bless you. Thomas Steinbreck
