BLACK SCREEN
AND IN THAT DARKNESS, WHITE WORDS SILENTLY FADE UP:
OUR FEARS GIVE HIM POWER FOR HE IS THE KING OF ILLUSION- TYRELL MOLSON
FADE IN:
ON A TEXT MESSAGE ON A CELLPHONE.
A hand reaches for it, bringing the phone up to the face of JALEN DOZIER, a young boy, no more than thirteen. The text reads "GET HOME NOW! MOM-".
The CAMERA PULLS BACK to reveal Jalen sitting in a living room, with his friend TAYLOR a bushy headed kid with braces 13, watching a horror movie.
JALEN
Aww craps.
TAYLOR
What?
JALEN
It's my mom. She wants me home, now!
Jalen gets up and approaches the front door where his coat hangs on a coat rack and his filthy shoes sit neatly on a welcome mat next to the door.
TAYLOR
Seriously!? Your going to miss the best part.
Jalen puts his shoes on.
JALEN
I saw this in theater with my dad already.
TAYLOR
What? You said you never saw this.

JALEN
(Putting on his jacket)
I guess that means I lied.
Jalen smirks cynically at Taylor insuring his theory.
TAYLOR
(Focusing back on the television)
You're really turning into the boy who cried wolf.
JALEN
Whatever, see ya.
TAYLOR
Later dude.
Jalen exits the house.
CUT TO:
INT. SUBURBAN STREET. NIGHT/SECONDS LATER
Jalen cruises on his bike down a dark suburban street. It's a cold autumn night, the streets are quite, no one in sight, just darkness that surrounds every corner... Jalen passes by an empty house that has a reality signs hanging in the front that squeaks back and forth, the sign read "DRAKE FALLS REALITY"... Jalen stops in front of an alley not too far from his friend Taylor's house.
ANGLE ON ALLEY/SLOW ZOOM
It's a short-cut home, quick and simple, only problem is it's too dark on top of that a little girl's body was found down the alley no more than a month ago, the thought alone hunts Jalen. Steam breathes through a sewer hole, trees hover from over the gates of the nearby homes, blocking out the moon light.
JALEN
(To himself)
Why did I wait so late to come home?
CRASH!
There is a noise down the alley. Something or someone lurks in the shadow's. Jalen is spooked but still tries to get a peek-
A HAND APPEARS
Grabbing Jalen by the shoulder startling him, he turns-
JALEN (CONT'D)
What the HELL!
IT'S TAYLOR
Taylor laughs at how, scared he got him.
TAYLOR
Chill out man.
Taylor hands Jalen his cell phone.
TAYLOR (CONT'D)
You left this.
JALEN
(Putting the phone away)
Thanks man.
TAYLOR
What are you doing?
JALEN
Contemplating.
TAYLOR
Contemplating what?
JALEN
Weather I should take this shortcut or not.
TAYLOR
(Looking down the alley)
...This is where they found that little girl.
JALEN
Yeah, I know.
A beat.
TAYLOR
(Breaking the silence)
Well, Good luck.
Taylor walks back home.
JALEN
Wait! Aren't you going to watch me home?
TAYLOR
(Continuing home)
No way bro, I don't want to miss any more of my movie.
Jalen watches Taylor as he's disappears from sight.
JALEN
(To himself)
What a loser.
His eyes turn back down the dark alley... What the hell, what's the worst that can happen, right? Jalen starts down the alley.
INT. THE ALLEY. SAME
He cruises slowly, his eyes survey every inch of the alley... Suddenly-
A CAT
Jumps out from behind a trash can scaring the hell out of Jalen, causing him to topple over off his bike... The cat hisses before taking off into the darkness. Jalen laughs it off.
JALEN
(Standing to his feet)
I have got to be the biggest sissy right now.
CRUSH!
The sound of glass getting stepped on catches Jalen's attention, he immediately turns into the direction of the noise.
JALEN (CONT'D)
(Frightened)
Who's there?
Silence... Foot steps slowly start toward him from the other end of the alley. A figure emerges from out of the darkness, not fully just enough to see it's silhouette. Jalen slowly backs away.
JALEN (CONT'D)
(Unsure)
Taylor?
Silence... The figure LAUNCHES at Jalen full throttle. WHAT THE HELL! Jalen bolts down the alley like a SPEEDING BULLET leaving his bike, not even looking back. The mysterious foot steps stomp right behind him, if he slack just a little bit it's over... Jalen reaches the end of the alley and appear on another suburban street, his street.
INT. SUBURBAN STREET. NIGHT/SECONDS LATER
His eyes search for some kind of refuge... There it is-
HOME
No more than a block away. If he can keep up his speed he'll be home free... Jalen trips and falls but recovers quickly back on his feet, running for his life... He slams up against the front door, turning the knob-
IT'S LOCKED!
JALEN
(Turning the door knob vigorously)
MOM! OPEN THE DOOR!
Jalen BANGS on the door like a mad man as the unknown foot steps trample closer.
CUT TO:
INT. THE HOUSE. SAME
Jalen's mom is standing over the stove cooking dinner... The banging continues at the front door.
JALEN'S MOM
(Annoyed)
What on earth is with all the banging?
She takes off her apron and heads for the front door.
CUT TO:
EXT. THE HOUSE. SAME
Jalen bangs on the door for dear life, tears rolling from his eyes, he screams for his mom as the presence of the unknown figure continues to stalk him.
JALEN
MOM PLEASE OPEN THE DOOR! HE'S COMING!
CUT TO:
INT. THE HOUSE/FOYER.
JALEN'S MOM approaches the door.
JALEN'S MOM
Calm down! I'm coming. Geez.
She tugs at the door knob without unlocking it. The banging stops.
JALEN'S MOM (CONT'D)
(Realizing the door is locked)
Silly me.
She unlocks the door and swings it open.
JALEN'S MOM (CONT'D)
Now what's all the fuss-
EXT. THE HOUSE.
Jalen is gone! No one is in sight.
JALEN'S MOM
(Peeking her head out)
Jalen!
No response.. She looks around and listens intently for her son's voice... Nothing not a word.
JALEN'S MOM (CONT'D)
(To herself)
...Have I lost my mind or something?
She shuts the door locked... A noise from a nearby wall of bushes catches our attention. It's muffled, it's the sound of Jalen trying to scream for help just before-
A BONE CRUSHING SOUND
The sound of Jalen's body being crushed.

Jimmy smirks.
SHERIFF RICHARDSON

MARI

Mari walks around the room cleaning up.
SHERIFF RICHARDSON
I want to work a job that I like working.
MARI
I thought you liked helping people?
SHERIFF RICHARDSON
I do... I'm walking in my fathers foot steps. I didn't want to be a sheriff like him or in the same town.
Sheriff Richardson puts on his shoes that are next to the bed.
SHERIFF RICHARDSON (CONT'D)
...I miss football.
MARI
Oh! That's what this is about.
SHERIFF RICHARDSON
(Standing buttoning up his Uniform shirt)

My point exactly. Is that what you want to go back to?
SHERIFF RICHARDSON

SHERIFF RICHARDSON

SHERIFF RICHARDSON (CONT'D)
(To himself)
