Poetry By: Frank Ramtahal

Here is another poem of the series from my anthology entitled THIS IS GUYANA. It was written in May 1966, during independence, calling on Guyanese to express and experience the joy of freedom.

Oh ye sons and daughters,
Children of Guyana,
Oh come, raise your voices;
Sing this song of freedom,
Come sing, "Guyana Is Ours".

God frees the land so good,
God blesses its people;
What e'er they are doing,
Where e'er they are working,
They'll sing, "Guyana Is Ours".

From corner to corner,
From boundary to boundary,
Land and water are ours
And Guyanese shall sing -
They'll sing, "Guyana Is Ours".

Long our flag waves o'er us,
It may fling on the breeze,
Where e'er o'er lands and seas
And we will be singing -
We'll sing, "Guyana Is Ours".

Children of Guyana,
This country is so free,
Our nation's ever strong;
Sing this song of freedom -
Come sing, "Guyana Is Ours".
