He bends forward

a tall, thin man.

The short broomstick

crude in my eyes.

Topped with a painter's brush,

delicately dips into the pail.

With grand sweeps

of his long, gaunt arms,

the wet mop

tranforms, flashes

this way,

and that,

each movement so fast

and subtley

delicate.

Feet and legs

dance backwards

in orchestrated rhythm.

My eyes

transfixed by dancing motion

of stick and man

as one,

drawn to the tablet

unfolding

behind

him.

Equisite characters

flow across

the pavement.

Glistening in the morning sun.

A poem.

In words I cannot understand.

He stops,

surveys his work,

a satisfied smile

s p r e a d s across his face.

The furrows of concentration

ease into crinkles

of

laughter.

As I watch,

the sun warms and enfolds

each

letter,

edges disappear

lines thin ...

changing nuances

altering meaning,

disappearing into

noth
ing ..

An ephemeral

event..

But I know

it

was

there.

and

so

does

he.
