Hello! My name is Christian Taylor and this is “Booksie Life Stories”. Tonight, I am interviewing Ashi17. This poet from Saudi Arabia has developed a major fan base since she made her debut in Nov. of 2011 with poems like “A Missing Girl”, “Crazy Rain Drops”, and “Smart Lover”. Recently, Ashi17 reached A-list status when her poem “Love is What?” was featured on the Booksie Homepage. So who is the poet behind the poems? We’ll find out…
Christian Taylor: For about a month your poem 'What is Love?' was the talk of Booksie when it was featured on the Booksie homepage...Did you think you were the best?
Ashi17: No...... I don't think so. I just shaped up my emotions into the poem and let the readers decide.
CT: What was your reaction when u found out about your poem being on the booksie homepage?
Ashi17: One writer 'Deathstix' wrote a comment "hey! Saw your work is on front page congrats ", I was surprised to know that and became curious for the reason, as I was sure that my other poems are more deserving than this one. I wanted to know it was just a random selection or booksie's editors really found it one of my best work to pick for 'homepage' and answer is still unknown .
CT: What you said was the same thought as I when one of my poems made the front-page. I felt that my other works were more deserving than the one that was posted. The response you had gotten from your poem must have been a good feeling though?
Ashi17: Definitely CT! This display of my poem on homepage gave me more exposure, readers, fans, followers and those who were already my readers started taking me more seriously. And this is really a wonderful feeling to be recognized though my create work.
CT: Definitely! Some people say that being featured on the homepage is both a blessing and a curse. Do you agree?
Ashi17: Curse? No, not at all, a writer or poet wants to be in touch of his/her readers and curious to know their opinion on writing for betterment and this featured poem on homepage gave me that and proved blessing for me.
CT: That's very true, but what I was aiming for is that...Is there pressure added to continue making poems that have as big of an impact as the one that was put on the homepage?
Ashi17: Yes, I accept this fact that somewhere it raised the expectations of my readers from me, they compare my work with my previous one and criticize when it fails to meet. But I take all that in positive way and as a creative writer I try to gives my best in pressure.
CT: I am now going to ask you a series of questions that I like to call 'This or That?' I'll give you two options and you just have to pick the one like the most.
Sunrise or sunset?
CT: Cats or Dogs?
CT: Apple or Orange?
CT: Drama or Comedy?
CT: Poetry or Novel?
CT: Love or War?
CT: And finally...what you do hope to accomplish in 5 years for your writing career?
Ashi17: Want to see at least a published book of 'my poetry' in my hand.
CT: Miss Ashi, it was a pleasure! Thank you!
Ashi17: Thank you very much Mr. Christian Taylor, it is really honor to be interviewed out of 20 candidates. I would like to thank all my readers who voted for me for this. Wishing you all Merry Christmas and a very happy new year!!
