I walked into the new classroom, I felt sick, cold and different. Everyone turned round and looked at me as I walked into the room. From this day forward I knew my life was going to be totally different.

As I stood at the front of the classroom with thirty sets of eyes staring at me, I started to get hotter and hotter, this was when my new teacher introduced herself and me to the class. "Hello Jackie, I'm Miss Burridge, if you need to know anything or you're confused, just ask me. Class! We have a new student joining us today, this is Jackie Simms, and can you help her find her way round please." I sat down, the lesson begun. I had all these thoughts running through my head, I was so nervous, until my eyes caught upon someone...

"Jackie, Jackie, Hello?" the teacher said.

Someone nudged me. "OW!" I exclaimed.

"If you weren't gawping at Sam,

"Sorry Miss Burridge." I quietly said.

I told Mum I wouldn't talk back and try not to get into any trouble at this school, I've got to stick by it.

The bell rang. "Class dismissed." Miss Burridge shouted.

Chairs cluttered together as everyone pushed their chairs under the table and dived for the door. From then on I found her annoying and crude. I stepped outside the classroom, looked at my map and...

I opened my eyes to someone leaning over me saying my name, "Jackie, can you hear me? You fell over and hit your head in the corridor." A boy's voice spoke, it was Sam. I got helped up and I sat on a chair in the nurse's office.

It was a small, cold, white room, with one or two posters up talking about medical health, very inviting. The nurse's name was Anne, she had brown, short, wavy, thick hair with was tucked behind her ears and clipped back with rusty, silver clips. She also had big, thick, black eyebrows which lurked above her eyes like slugs. She wasn't wearing any make-up and she wore the basic nurse uniform with a floral buckle. As she slowly walked over to me to give me a cup of water, she spoke, "What school did you come from then?" "St Mills Combined up in Southampton but my Dad left my Mum and I and we had to come down here to live with my Auntie." I replied. "Oh, don't you mind?" the nurse asked. I replied talking about my Mum and I said how I would do anything which made her happy. The door swung open, it was my Mum. She came rushing in with her hair flying everywhere, that's my Mum for you. She's a worrier, the kind of person who cares about everyone else and puts everyone before herself and ends up forgetting about herself normally. "Jackie darling, are you ok? I was so worried when the school rung!" There you are, worried! But I love her. My Mum took me home and looked after me. I then had a good nights sleep and went back to school the next day.

I stepped out of the car; it was like a gathering around the waterhole in the animal world. Everyone was gossiping and chatting. I walked up the steps into the school corridor and Sam ran up to me and asked me if I was ok.

"Hi Jackie, are you ok? You looked like you took quite a fall yesterday."

"Hey! You're Sam, aren't you?"

"Yeah, I am, Sorry! Not introducing myself, silly me." Sam instantly giggled after talking.

"It's ok. Thanks for helping me yesterday! New girl on her first day has an accident, clever aren't I?" I quickly laughed after talking as well just in case he thought I was a bit strange, I guess I laughed because I was so nervous. I'd never really spoken to any boys in my old school; they all thought I was weird.

"COME ON SAM! We have dance practice! No slaking now, we've got an important competition coming up." a girl shouted in the distance.

She started walking down the corridor towards Sam and I like she owned the school.

"I better go, don't want anymore arguments," Sam whispered.

"Oh hello, you must be Jackie, the new girl who fell over yesterday! Anyway, I'm Emma, Sam's girlfriend." She said obnoxiously,

"Hey! Yeah, silly me," I nervously said thinking she seemed like the person who would judge you from first meetings and obviously she must as just hearing I was the new girl falling over.

"I'll meet you in the dance studio in 5, Ok? Bye Jackie!" Sam said from halfway down the hallway.

"Ok Sweetie!" "Bye Sam."

Emma suddenly went from nice and kind to Sam to nasty and malicious to me, I was so confused.

"Go near my boyfriend and you will have me to deal with. Don't even think about it!" Emma sharply said and stormed off down the corridor.

I walked into my Maths class, sat down and begun to get my equipment out of my bag until I saw flyers were being sent round notifying everyone about the prom with was approaching. After the lesson, I ran home and my Mum and I went shopping for a new dress. I was so excited, my first prom! But one problem, NO DATE! As I walked round the shopping centre thinking about the prom non-stop until the most gorgeous pair of shoes ever. They were as white as snow and as tall as the Eiffel tower. They were absolutely perfect until I saw the price! £150, my jaw dropped with shock. "I'm sorry Jackie; you know I would buy them for you if I could afford them." Jackie's mum said.

"It's fine mum! Don't worry; I've got a pair of shoes I can wear."

I was disappointed at first but I understood that mum couldn't really afford them at the moment. We found a dress which was stunning, laced with diamantes. I was so pleased with it; we then started to make our way home.

When we got home, I ran up stairs and hung up my beautiful new dress in my wardrobe. I then started rummaging through the mess in room and found my diary and I started to write:

Dear Diary,

It's a week before the Prom and I still don't have a date! :( It's so depressing. Obviously I'm still just 'the new girl' but Fingers crossed Sam will ask me but then again, he has Emma :( I wish I was pretty and had a nice figure like her and then everyone would like me. Or would I just be fake and mean? I'm 15, I have long brown hair, big blue eyes and I look like a sloth, I've always had spinal problems making me look like hunchback and I'm short and curvy. I've got an idea, I'll start dancing! Then for sure, Sam will notice me. I'll start ballet for my posture. You never know I may win the competition I entered for a make-over! All these ideas were coming into my head all at once; I felt a huge smile coming on. I giggled to myself with happiness.

I'm off to bed now, ever so tired, Will write again soon!

Love Jackie

Xx

I woke up to the sun shining through my ivory netted curtains and the white fluffy clouds slowly swimming across the big blue sky. I then ran downstairs; I collected the post and found a letter for me from the magazine. I ripped it open with suspense.

I smiled with joy.

"Are you ok love?" My mum shouted down the stairs.

"I WON THE MAKE-OVER MUM!" I yelled up the stairs.

I was so happy, I rung them up on when I would like to have the make-over and I said I'd like it for tonight, the night of the Prom. My phone vibrated, I looked at it and smiled. I had received a text from Sam and it read:

Hey Jackie, hope Ur ok. Heard Ur going 2 the prom and I was just wondering if you wanted 2 go with me? Emma is going up north for the weekend and cnt make it so how about it? Txt Bk ASAP, love Sam ox.

I screamed with happiness, he asked me and he said love WITH kisses! I texted back saying I would love to and he then replied saying he would pick me up at 7pm.

At 1pm, I walked down to the Salon and they curled my hair and gripped it up with gorgeous, little diamantes clips. They also applied my make-up for me, I was glowing. The lovely shades of colours they used and my eyes shone in the light. I loved it all, it was so fabulous. My Mum picked me up from the Salon and we drove home, Mum had laid my dress out on my bed which was accompanied with two boxes.

"Mum, what are they?"

"They are for you sweetheart, it's your special night. Open them and see."

I walked up to the bed and sat down. I picked up the smallest box first and it glistened in the light, it was beautiful.

"Oh Mum" Thank you so much, it's beautiful," tears came to my eyes.

It was mine which your grandmother gave to me for my first prom but wait till you open the other box," she gave me a big hug.

I then opened the other box, my jaw dropped just like the first time I saw them, it was the gorgeous shoes I saw.

"Mum! But..."

"But it's your first prom, you need something new and special, enjoy yourself."

The doorbell rang a little while later, Mum shouted the stairs, "I'll get it!"

It was Sam, I walked down the stairs and everyone was shocked. "What?! Is there something wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong, you look beautiful," Sam said smiling.

"Are you ready to go?"Yeah, I'll just grab my bag."

"Bye Mum, bye Auntie Jane, Love you!"

"Have a great time, you two!" My Auntie shouted.

The hall was glistening with lights and balloons were flying everywhere with pink and white banners pinned up on the walls. It was packed full of people and the music was banging. The atmosphere was amazing. I sat down whilst Sam went to get some Punch for the both of us. A random girl came and sat down next to me who began to ask me questions.

"Hey," she said. I replied, "Hi, do i know you?" I had to raise my voice so she could hear me as the music was so loud. She replied saying, "No, you don't but I'm Jayne, one of Emma's best friends and I was just wondering what you were doing with Sam? I thought she said to you not to flirt or try anything on with him?" "Yeah, she did but I'm not doing anything and he asked me. No harm done." She didn't say anything after that and just sat there, then got out her phone and started to text someone. I saw Sam starting to come back, I then turned around and she was gone. Sam and I carried on talking and I realised we had more things in common than I thought. "Would you like to dance?" "I'd love to." We started to dance, when the music was quite fast. The music changed and a slow song came on. In the middle of the song, the lights dimmed and he went into kiss me. The balloon begun to fall and everything was so romantic, my first kiss. Someone then screamed their lungs out, it was Emma. She had come home early and had caught us kissing, she was so angry! She ran up to me, slapped me and screamed at me with all these reasons why what I had just done was totally wrong and out of order but then Sam stepped in front of me.

"No Emma, you're completely wrong. It's not her fault, I chose to kiss her and you are always rolled up in yourself and only care about yourself! No one else, just you and that's why I think we should end it here and now," Sam shouted.

"Fine, I'm not selfish, you're selfish! I hope you two are happy together," she sarcastically said, then ran off crying.

To be honest, she seemed to always so wrapped up in herself from what I had heard about her and after meeting her.

At the end of the night, Sam took me home and apologised to me and kissed me goodnight and mentioned he would ring me tomorrow. When I got in, I told my Mum and Auntie all about the night and how magical it was, just like in the fairy stories.

Six months later, Sam and I are still together but funnily enough Emma and I became friends. She changed a lot after that night and she started to do everything for everyone else. We were all friends and basically did everything together. Emma's old best friend, Jayne went to college and was doing a course on Law and she could be who she really was and stopped being fake. Mum found a boyfriend, well a friend really she says but we all know he isn't. Auntie Jane bought a new dog and we all live happily on the south-west coast in Devon.

I walked into the new classroom, I felt sick, cold and different. Everyone turned round and looked at me as I walked into the room. From this day forward I knew my life was going to be totally different.
