Is it just me, or is stalking people on the internet getting more and more complicated? Okay, I can explain...

Alright, let's get one thing straight. I am not a stalker. I am simply a curious individuals, who, when she has free time on her hands, likes to google people. Who doesn't once in a while? Well, sometimes, I really, really want to find someone online, so (because I do not have a Facebook, though I wish I did) I just google them, like I did tonight, I won't tell you who I was searching for. But anyway, I find their profile on, ahem, LinkdIn, I think. So I click on it, but I can't view it (of course) because I have to be a member. Understandable. So, because I am desperate, I decide to sign up for an account. (I do this sort of thing a lot, actually.) So I make my account and try to view, um, this person's profile.

And do you know what happened?

It said I had to sign up for a "premium membership." What?! Do you know what a premium membership requires. Money! A credit card number so they can charge me $12.95, just to view this guy's- I mean, person's, profile.

Sigh, so I just logged off.

But this little incident really bothered me. Since when has it costed $12.95 for a 12 month membership to stalk a person on the internet? I thought it was as simple as typing in a name, click, and boom, I know everything about the person.

But it appears not. I mean, I did find out what town he lives in, his phone number, and possibly his address and wife's name, but that's not the point.

So, really internet? You either need to be a pro-hacker or have 13 bucks to stalk people online now? Well that is just sick. I thought this was America! Where I'm free to stalk whoever I want in my own home, for free.

Shame on you, Internet, shame on you.

P.S.

Can anybody answer this question?

If you give a website a fake credit card number, is it illegal, or will they not notice? Please answer, my love life is at stake here. smiley
