After defeating the Russian raiders at the rail yard, Erhard and I were the only survivors. We were sent to the Seelow heights where we were to make a stand against the Russian invaders. The commander recognized my marksmanship and I was assigned a sniper rifle but I got to keep my STG-44, just in case, they told me. Erhard and I were teamed together and were to coordinate with another sniper team. We were sent to the Seelow heights and saw many of the defenses on the hills. I was impressed but Erhard wasn't. He said to me as we were getting ready the night, "Gebhard, I hope your ready cause these reds are going come at us faster than you can fire." At first I was confused but when I looked at the valley below I saw what he meant. For miles all I could see were Russian tanks lining up and huge masses of infantry.
I quickly realized that my chances at surviving were thin at best. "You'll want to try and take out as many officers as you can, their easy to see as they always carry pistols and let their men go first all the time" Erhard told me. We set up camp about five hundred yards from the other sniper team. Erhard went on watch first and told me that the rest was going to help because after today we wouldn't be getting much rest. The morning started with the swoosh-swoosh of rockets being fired at us. I quickly grabbed my sniper rifle and started firing at targets that Erhard pointed out. As I was firing at Russian targets it seemed impossible that I was still alive since the other sniper team had been taken out. They had found a Russian sniper team in a ruined bunker. The one Russian had the biggest sniper rifle I had ever seen. He killed the German sniper that had knocked out their radio. The shot stood him up and when it did there was a big hole where his chest should have been. His partner followed him shortly after he knocked out a Russian sniper.
Erhard told me it was time to retreat since the Russians were coming through the first line of our defenses. We fell back and ended up behind our tanks. We set up another position and began sniping away, this time I was the spotter and Erhard was the sniper. We helped our tanks as much as we could killing many Russians who were trying to destroy our tank with AT guns. We were soon helpless to help our tanks since we ran out of bullets for our sniper rifles. We retreated back to a rally point where we were told that we were to go to the outskirts of the city and help with defenses there. We handed off our rifles to some other soldiers who started loading them with bullets and going up into watch towers to try and delay the Russians.
