Higher the tide, the deeper the sea
And you: the greatest part of me
Love is like a battle call
Puts your back up against the wall
When I get home I’ll be longing for you
Your voice is angelic
It paralyzes, and the war of cries
Bites like lies
Because love is alien
At the front lines
In the trenches, the cold crawls up your spine
And you can’t help but wonder
If you’ll see the empty sky again tonight
Through the storm we reach the shore
I gave it my all but you want more
See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
With sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails you wait
You give yourself away
My hands are tied
My body bruised, you have left me with
Nothing to win
And nothing to lose
Nothing but you
It twists my guts into knots and pieces
Devours me from the inside out
To see your suffering and there’s nothing I can do
It gives me too much to think about
Almost silent, you whisper “save yourself,”
But I will only hold you tight
You can’t leave me, not tonight
I will take on one last fight
Now a soldier of love
Made a promise to you to do what’s right
The shackles are undone
The bullets quit the gun
The heat that’s in the sun
Will keep us when there’s none
Marching by day, dreaming by night
On the other side of war your love’s a light
I’m here on soil blown apart
To fight for the love of my heart
Because my love’s home alone
And I’m here wandering around with orders like a drone
Waiting for the flight home
I promise I’m coming home to you, baby
Yes it’s true
War tears through the soul
Our love in the fog like a fiery coal
Mistakes are made but chances are free
I’ve made mistakes, the chances I need is one
As long as you’re alive I’ll run
To the ends of the universe
A song going into its final verse
Nowhere to live and nowhere to hide
All I can live off is my hope and pride
And pray it will be enough this time
